Simply put if they were to do this it would kill the console games and make PCs much more attractive. I would also see litigation from companies that resell or rent the games, causing this to get turned around.

Just in time for the fiyahworks show! BOOM!
If they do this, looks like my 360 and PS3 will be my companions for a good while.

Pirating games in the first place is super dumb anyway, so you got yourself a nice new game that you love but you didn't pay for it. If everyone started to do that A. We would lose valuable information from potential virus threats and there will be a poor gamer rescission. B. All these wonderful companys such as Beth, Bioware, ea, activision, 343i, infinity ward, capcom, bungie, ect ect would go out of business and thats good by to Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect/Dragon Age, Sports Games, Call of Duty, Halo, Resident Evil, and Soul Caliber. Those are just some big titles these companies have produced, over all there will be no games period. Who wants to spend endless hours creating a fun filled video game with so much detail and work and get nothing for it in return. They do this for a living and you want to ruin it so there are no more games? or so these wonderful creators and their familys can starve and find new work? Even though college for all the aspects to creating a game costs money already they have to find a new profession but they can't go through college cause you stole your video games. So now the best known designers are working at McDonald's and now your only watching naughty vids on your pc, and trying to pawn your console to a Malaysian.

So next time buy the damn game, or save money for it, or wait for the price to drop. It wont kill you or anyone else. Pirating does. Look at the music industry these days.

I think this is just another case of punishing the law-abiders. People who pirate games will always find a way to do so. Just like people who pirate music will always find their stuff for free. Criminals will find guns and addicts will find drugs. All this nonsense only hurts those of us who don't pirate the games. It seems to me that the biggest pirates are in China though this may just be an Americanized slant on the issue. Wherever the biggest pirating nexus is, does anyone really think that this stuff is a solution?

While the gaming industry certainly loses some profit to piracy, I think a draconian approach is only going to alienate the law-abiding purchasers of titles. I know in my own house we have absolutely refused to buy certain games because of the invasive "copy protection" or because of a requirement to be connected to the internet to play every time. We are a fortunate family with disposable income to spend on things and while we will briefly lament not owning some well-rated game, we sure won't lose any sleep over it in the end.

ill admit i was to lazy to read the article and just ranted :) but i would believe at this day of age with technology a disk tray laser could differentiate a pirated cd to a real one, i woulddn't know what but i don't think its impossible for something special on those cds that must be read for it to to be read. Companies just need to control leaks better. Things like that don't just fall into public hands with out a insider helping.

Like honestly machine warfare these days, you can take out a small camp of enemys with a rc car rigged with machine guns explosives and rockets. you can stealth bomb, uav, and scientists these days are up on the nanobot crap little tiny robots that get injected into your blood stream and detect and cure diseases. cancer in the liver? zap. nope... we'll probably have robots walking side with human race in the next 20-30 years but we cant muster a anti-piracy technology. Clearly its un-cared for.

If the games cost $10 each, maybe at the cost of a more expensive console, they would be onto a winner, as most people will not bother pirating them.

But these guys don't think along these lines. If the PSP Vita games cost $10 each they would have sold so many more units. Times aren’t so fatuous and people simply will not spend the kind of money they used to on video games.

All that money they get builds better systems and finances better quality games.
Perhaps you should go to college for graphics and design to get yourself out of that financial slump. Or at least wait till they are old and used to purchase a game for like 20 dollars.
