While Marcurio is a little on the sarcastic side when you ask him to carry your stuff, he does have high destruction and sneak skills. Though I had to part him and Shadowmere once or twice when they decided to kill each other.
Annekke is my favourite by far. She will use any weapon you give her and she is brutal! Plus she doesn't talk all that much and she is hot! She is a little tricky to get and, sadly, you cant marry her but she is worth it. Her and Marcurio are my favourites.

Kit where can I find her ? don't recall her at all o_O

Marcurio is one of my favorite followers. But he always starts fights with animal followers or other followers you have to have for quest. Just did one quest with him, helping a girl find a scroll. Every five minutes I was casting calm on her because they kept fighting. After they finished fighting she would say something like, 'keep your magic to yourself, mage.' And I can't even think of how many times he killed Meeko. But otherwise he is one of the best followers. I'm trying out J'Zargo now.

Check the net though, there are some bugs with her(sometimes) that won't allow you to get her. You have to go kill x-amount of baddies at some cave for her then ask her to join. One of my characters couldn't bring up the dialogue & 2 of mine could so....I'm on ps3.

Aside from her propensity for standing in door ways, she is one of my favorites. The funniest thing that I've seen Lydia do was on my previous playthrough, during a mage college quest. I had given her a staff of fireballs. So we walk into this room accompanied by Tolfdir and draugrs start emerging from coffins. Lydia pulls out her staff and commences to blow up the whole room. Explosions everywhere. Of course, one these hit the loquacious Tolfdir, who went for Lydia, and Lydia beat him down. Repeatedly. I later married her, but that was in a past life.

Yes she is at Dark water Crossing. You may need to visit her a couple of times before she initiates the proper dialogue with you. She will ask you to do a "Kill the bandit leader" quest, but she will not give it to you unless you have no other similar quests in your journal. After you do her quest she will then have the dialogue option that asks her to follow you.

Dark Brotherhood initiate is very good. Levels with you pretty high, and I believe they are essential.

I got 99 problems but a Deadra ain't one.
I play as a warrior character so i will use Lydia at times for fun and joy cause i like her. But if i need to use some magical brute force i will bring along: Aranea Ienith. She is a magical juggernaut you have to complete Azura's Star Quest keeping the star and bringing it back to her to be fixed, that part is a bitch to complete. But sfter she will follow you. Put her in some Glass Armour and watch her go :D

Sadly, this will never happen for me. I enjoy the Black Star too much. Plenty of other good mage types to choose from though. Maybe one of these days I'll break from tradition and try something new.

If you are on PC and willing to mod, Interesting NPC's adds a lot of new followers, with one of them being Zora Fair-Child (My absolute favorite though not a mage). But trust me, there is a ton of new followers which can be all seen by clicking on this. A few of them are mages and some are even spellswords.

Yeah its never the option I take. My good characters just dont do deadric quests (I spose Azura is not that bad) and my evil characters take the Black Star. One day I will get her as a follower though.

Interesting, cause i have never done the Black Star variant ending. I tend to play amoral or morally nuetral chaotic characters. All Merc types so they have only loyalty to the person who initiated the quest and hired them as such. May go full evil for a playthrough and see how it goes.

My characters aren't evil, and they almost always take the black star. I figure, why kill an innocent mammoth, when there are murderous bandits, assassins, and thugs about, who need to be purged anyway?

Understandable, i mainly end up fighting the undead at that stage of the game so i prefer the white star as well i quite like her as a follower so i would need an evil reason to not work with her.

The star is a handy source of grand souls, but it's not the end-all-be-all. With banish, for example, you can crank out so much instant cash, you can buy up every soul gem you'll ever need and then some.

I haven't had the opportunity to take Azura's servant on yet, but I shall...one day. I've been toying with a custom follower at them moment, but possibly this next run through...

*evil chuckle*

Mammoths are a last resort for me, primarily because there are so many easier targets. Though if you have morals then yeah, it might be your only option.

Aside from the bandits and such, how about all those wandering souls along the road?

I can't count the number of Stormcloak/Imperial wannabe farmers I see. If you pick a side in the Civil War questline it could be argued you're doing your side a favor by eliminating the guys that plan to join the other side. Taking their soul in the process is just icing ... err ... a necessary part of the process to ensure they don't come back.

And maybe I don't want the Alik'r to find the Redguard woman they're looking for. Taking them out after their interrogation keeps her identity a secret just a little bit longer. And they're clearly hassling those poor women so some could say I'm helping her rather than hindering their search. After I've sucked the life out of them, I help her too by making sure she never, EVER has to worry about it again.

Thalmor patrols. Who doesn't love taking them down a peg? And it would be a shame letting that soul go to waste.

There's a veritable cornucopia of soul wealth walking around and sure it's probably evil to take humanoid souls but I see myself doing the world a greater good by attempting to condense all the potential evil in the land down to one person. ME! Buahahahahaaaaaa!
