i started my day by going to see blacksmith on Riverwood, only to meet a dragon who wanted to play. Wham bam, he's dead, but then in horror i discovered the bodies of mr and mrs blacksmith. Oh well, ill do the quest...need to see Captain aldis in solitude. So off i port out, only to meet yet again another frisky dragon. Bam, Pow, he's dead, but tho my horror i discover Captain aldis dead along with several guards. This can't be happenning. So i decide to do to dawnstar, and guess what i find...not 1 but two dragons:confused:.(Turns off game, drinks vodka, goes to bed and thinks im bad luck to NPC's.) ;)

You can`t blame yourself for traffic accidents just because you`re using the road where they occur. I must admit that I love Riverwood after spending so much time there.
Because of the constantly spawning dragons, I now fast-travel to The Guardian Stones and walk my way down to the village. That way if a scaly beast does appear, it can be handled without risk to my dear old friends , Alvor and Sven , who were the only guests at my wedding. If they could go all the way to Riften for my sake , then a little extra hoofing is the least I can do for them.
In case a dragon arrives when I`m not there to help , Sven is equipped in the finest Dragonscale armor set I can craft and I`ve left a Daedric Greatsword on Alvor`s workbench for him to use to protect himself and his family.

It does feel like home whenever I walk back into Riverwood. What I usually do is get the dragon's attention and a draw it a pretty far way down the road to Whiterun before I reach a spot where it'll land, where I can kill it without anyone getting hurt.

I`ve discovered that normally unarmed NPC like Alvor will seek out the nearest weapon they can find when they are forced into combat mode by something like a dragon attack. So I have seeded appropriate weapons around such as those I care about for use in these instances.

Would reverse pickpocketing work to provide protection to NPC in these cases ? I`m afraid to try it right now because pickpocketing is by far my worst skill .

That's just unfortunate haha :p
Those darned NPC's always seem helpless. "Oh can you go kill these wittle bandits for me? They are so strong and they took my family heirloom." But the minute a dragon shows up they go crazy. "Come at me foul beast!! I shall tear thee to pieces with my bare fists!!!"

It's just plain silly!

Sometimes, not always, NPC's are somewhat buggy in this regard. For the most part, they will equip a given weapon, provided you can pickpocket the current weapon they have equipped (which requires the misdirection perk). But certain NPC's will not equip given weapons no matter what.

I ran into the same thing in Riverwood. Now there is no blacksmith to sell stuff to. I notice their kid has not been taken to the orphanage in Riften yet, she still guards the house. As a point of interest I occasionally see the woman who runs the lumber mill working in the blacksmith shop, but she always leaves when I show up.

Also, after many months and many levels Alvor's body is still laying there! I dragged him off to one side, but his corpse seems to be a permanent attraction.

Another sad NPC tale, a Dragon attacked and killed the wife of the blacksmith in Dawnstar. He's as friendly and helpful as ever, but whenever I go to his shop I find him kneeling over the body of his wife stroking her hair. It breaks my heart to see him like that.

I've been lucky - no one I care about has been killed in a dragon attack yet. And I've had dragons inside Solitude and Windhelm city walls.

Earlier today my level 7 Imperial was making the trek up the Throat of the World, and halfway there, a dragon swoops down out of nowhere. We were right near one of those emblems, and the woman meditating got up to help me fight the dragon. A long, hard battle later, I was sure the woman had been killed because I couldn't see her anywhere... and then I spot her as she sits back down at the emblem, literally on top of the dragon's skeletal tail, and continues her meditation as though nothing happened. I'm officially in love with her.

I was on the way to dragon bridge from markarth. Just outside of dragon bridge i come across a horse and cart. Horse is dead. crap all over the road. dead woman next to cart. I have a looksee around. Nothing, no one. Poke around to try and generate some kind of quest. nothing... I back away slowly.

Hmmm. I've never yet had collateral damage from my Dragon encounters.
I would suggest you were slightly careless whom you hit in all the excitement, but you'd probably try to kill me, so I'm not going to.

Perhaps restricting yourself to zero-splash damage attacks, such as pointy stick, or maybe craft knife.
(I'm so thankful this game isn't multiplayer. I'll be on Sandy's hatelist now, and so dead!)

I love you really. Just joking, Killing is good *huggles*.

The same people died on my first dragon attack at Riverwood.

Today, Onmund and I are trekking through the forest near Kynesgrove, en route to Mzulft, when suddenly, A DRAGON APPEARS. We take it down no problem. But then I realize the dragon had chased us right into a herd of two mammoths, which are now charging us. They K.O. Onmund pretty quickly, bringing him down to his knees while his health regenerates. I finish them off without much hassle, but then watch in absolute horror as the second mammoth FALLS DOWN RIGHT ON TOP OF ONMUND. I actually shouted, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" at my television. You'd think this would crush a guy to death, but no. Onmund got up a minute later and went on his merry way.

I love this game.
