Having trouble creating a new character to get into...

So I have two characters either close to level 40 or higher at the moment, done most of what I want to do with them, and I am now trying to come up with a new character to begin "skyrimming" with. The only problem is I create a character, but I'm having trouble getting into them. I've done warriors that side with the stormcloaks or Imperials, thiefs, assassins, warriors for the companions, sellswords, a couple mages awhile ago, etc.

Most recently did a Vampire Lord style of play with Dawnguard, and I am wanting to make my new character a vampire lord again, just have no idea what else I would want to do with the character.

So basically, does anyone have any random character ideas?

I've been using a build I call Foul Presence for the past few playthroughs and I'm having fun with it. It's basically a Runemaster Battlemage Poisoner I guess. It's a quest intensive build but if you don't sell all your stuff you might have most of it already. I can expand if that interests you at all.

Explain more.

Ok...

First off here's the equipment list and bear in mind I built this specifically for Legendary:

Ebony Mail
Mehrune's Razor
Vlad's Lucky Dagger
Zephyr
Ahzidal's Ring of Arcana
Targe of the Blooded
Amulet of Talos
Miraak's Staff

Optional:

Aetherium Crown
Jagged Crown (exploit or never finish quest)
Bloodskal Blade or Longhammer (dump daggers)

So that leaves only gauntlets and boots to enchant at your discretion.

I use Talos' Blessing, Lord Stone w/ Steed Stone on Crown, Agent of Mara

Schools of Magic:

Destruction: Adept cost reduction, Augment Flames 2/2, Intense Flames, Rune Master

Alteration: Apprentice cost reduction, Magic Resistance 2/3 if Breton, 3/3 if not.

Primary Spells- Ignite, Poison Rune, Frenzy Rune, Fire Rune, Wall of Flames

Primary Shouts- Slow Time, Cyclone, Unrelenting Force

Enchanting optional, smithing dependent on what difficulty you're on. Alchemy goes to the left up to Concentrated Poison. I only make one potion with this build and it's Weakness to Poison/Fire/Frost (Bleeding Crown, Ice Wraith Teeth (hard to come by) and A. Longfin). I generally Hotkey Zephyr to the left and the poison to the right. That way I can approach a group, poison Zephyr and go Slow Time. You can pump 4 poisoned arrows into 4 different people/things if you are quick enough, then I switch to Targe of the Blooded/Miraak's Staff. Lay down a nice field of tentacles, switch to Wall of Flames or Poison Rune in the the right hand. Or Frenzy Rune them in the tentacles and laugh. If they try to get out, bash them with Targe and make them bleed too. Tentacles are poison, armor is poison, some of them got a dose of weakness poison to boot. Unrelenting Force pushes them back into the tentacles if need be. Or you can light em all up with Ignite and Force them into a pile. Lots of options. I carry the two daggers for when I feel like dual slashing. I also make Poison Albino Spiders but it's totally optional. I barely use them tbh.

If you want any further details feel free to ask. I may have messed up a few minor details and names but I don't have acces to my build atm.

Honestly, I probably won't be going with that idea. Well I appreciate the thought you put into it, mage/enchanting is probably my least preferred style of play. Thanks for throwing an idea out there though.

No worries. I also have a wood elf build that lives in the Alchemist's Shack and does nothing but hunt and mine. That one is easy. Get a hunting bow and go to the Alchemist's Shack. Done. :)

Don't know if you've heard of it, but the Skyrim Blog is probably my favorite place to browse for character inspiration.

You can check out all of their "Legendary" builds, which just means they are the most popular, or you can search for builds specifically tagged Vampire Lord. There is a lot of great information there. I feel like every time I visit the site I almost want to start a new build.

I had heard about that, but never got around to reading anything on it. It really does have quite a lot of detailed ideas. I will for sure spend some time reading.

If you like Vampire lords (i love them) then why not make your build the ultimate master vampire, you can go two ways or make a hybrid, 1st would be the traditional vampire with conjuration, destruction, illusion, or you could make a more assassin style vamp with sneak illusion archery 1 handed and alchemy or mix the two.
vamps make the best assassins and illusionists due to their instant 25% bonus to illusion and sneak and their additional lesser and greater powers like night eye, invisibility, calm, detect life etc.
You can wear royal vampire armour and use absorb health enchants on weapons, you could also join the dark brotherhood to get shadowmere and use 1 of the death hounds too oh and serana as a follower.

this is my favourite way to play, also use the lady stone so your health and stamina regen in daylight and your clothes should have magicka regen.

Right now I'm playing a traveling merchant. I'm using a few mods to do this. The dragon killer cart and barter with NPCs. I'm RPing heavily with this character. He knows how to sneak, shoot a crossbow, use poisons, Alteration, Restoration and Illusion spells. He is also an enchanter, good at light armor and the use of one handed sword. So a combo between a Mage, swordsman, sneak, archer, merchant.

That is sort of what I actually started doing today. I made a female dunmer, mainly focusing on destruction and illusion with her. Also building up on light armor here and there in anticipation of the Vampire armors that I will wear. I just wanna build it up a fair amount before I delve into being a Vampire Lord for the second time.

I think almost always having a death hound with me would fit the character well too.
