There are pages devoted to different Skyrim builds out there to keep the game interesting 2+ years later, but if you are like me, you have trouble carrying through with them for any extended period of time. Skyrim is huge after all. For instance, I was just doing an Imperial Praetorian build, where you only use Imperial armors and weapons, commit fully to the Empire and focus on the whole RP notion that you are going to restore the Empire's peace to Skyrim. What to do once you slay Ulfric though...

So I was thinking of a build idea that had enough of a back story to keep things going and I came up with the Ancient Nord.

With the Ancient Nord, the backstory is that you are a Dragonborn from a past age, awoken when the seal on Alduin is gone. Not dead, yet not fully alive either. (sort of like Miraak) Disoriented, you stumble upon the ambush the Empire has laid for Ulfric and are taken prisoner as well. Your memories are fuzzy, though you know that you are in your own homeland (so then a Nord probably, but an Orc would work as would a Breton though I would RP it as a Reachman), you are quite old and frail looking and possess some knowledge of magics and martial capability.

You will only use Ancient Nord weapons, as they feel 'right' in your hands. The same goes for Ancient Nord Armor (it isn't a problem if you upgrade the weapons to Nord Hero weapons later on and also get the Ahzidal set if you like too) If you are a Nord like me, you are 100% devoted to Talos, so Amulets of Talos are preferred and Daedric weapons and other 'Godly' weapons like Dawnbringer are out. However Wuuthrad would be acceptable as you recognize this as a weapon worthy of a true Nord. Your motivation is to regain your original powers as a Dragonborn, so your goal will be to round up every single Dragon Shout you can and use them liberally. I choose one handed ax for myself, but for your other hand you will use Conjuration (Necromancy) to raise undead. Remember, you yourself have been locked in a limbo of death for centuries. You will also use Restoration to heal wounds, but also for Wards. Yes....Wards! You block, then absorb spells and other blows as well as Dragon Breath attacks. As you grow in power (say around lvl 15) your memory of Runes will return and you will take the appropriate Destruction perks. (Any are fine, but I went with Ice. Nord, remember?) Smith up Improvements for you Ancient armor and weapons. Enchant them as you see fit.

Further motivations: The removal of the Empire from Skyrim, including the death of the Emperor. Destroy Mirraak, seal away Daedric weapons, kill Alduin AND Parthanaxx. Finally, an Ancient Nord will shun the company of others so he will avoid cities and towns as he/she can, and will prefer desolate places so Hearthfire Pale location probably.

That's it. Could be fun. Feel free to add to it as you like.

Nords forever
Sounds good to me. I have done my fair share of nord builds but nothing like this one. Okin and Eduj are great for rp purposes and are pretty good to.

Worship of Talos came around during the Third Era. Nords didn't follow Talos until he defeated them at Sancre Tor, when the Nords betrayed their Breton allies to go with General Talos.

The Eight/Nine Divines were an Imperial creation, some Nords consider the Divines to be imposter Gods. The ancient Nords would of worshiped their original pantheon of animals that represent their Nordic Gods such as Shor, Kyne, Tsun etc.

Depending how Ancient this Nord is, the reaction to the Eight/Nine Divines could be the same as it was in the First Era. Burn their temples and kill their priests.

Or is he a Nord who was around the time of Talos, during his conquests in the Reach in the Second Era?

Though interesting concept of a build.

Hmm, good point. I suppose that would be up to the player just how ancient. For me though, I would say he was around Talos' time. He is thoroughly dedicated to being a Dragonborn and destroying dragons. I suppose if you wanted something older, then yes Kyne would be the God you would follow. Perhaps in that case, a Breton/Reachman would be better and in that case you would go for the Reachman set of armor you get in Markarth or enchant up a separate pair. The same concept stands however. You awaken with Alduin, etc etc.

Probably should save the Civil War for last until you know what side it is you want. Both the Empire and the Stormcloaks have their grey areas.

So... you gonna go to Forelhost to get that armor? :)

Aye, so true. I remember going there on master difficulty, in my smithed up daedric gear thinking I'm hard, and getting my arse handed to me by the brutal gauntlet of Deathlords... good times :D

As for the build itself, I thought Necromancy is a strange idea. I know the ancient Nords were more accepting of magic than the modern ones, but I don't think they ever really accepted necromancy, they honor their deceased too much. I certainly understand your reasoning behind it: being locked in a limbo of death gave him/her powers of the dead, but still, I find it a strange idea. Otherwise, it's a fun looking build with plenty of rp opportunities.

With a game that has been out for two years, with thousands of players. Chances are high that two people will come to the same general idea. Similar builds are fairly common.

Doesn't necessarily have to go to Forelhost. The Companions were around along time, and a Nord probably wouldn't mind being one. Would have to do the quest line to get Nord Hero stuff anyway. Take a carriage to Windhelm and it's a short hop to the helm of Yngol, for a starter.

Hehe. That's how it always happens.

I was just reading on uesp, if you go to Kjenstag ruins between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM, wait outside for the ghost to appear, and "kill" it, you can loot a full set of Ancient Nord armor also.
