Hmm...not sure if this tops the original post (probably not), but I still find this one to be the weirdest game I've ever played: Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (for Sega Genesis)

I own it and still play it from time to time. Can't beat it, even 20 some odd years later. Damn Thriller level and its impossible flying zombies. Can't stay Robo-Michael long enough to kill them all. o_O

Whatever you've heard about this game (if anything) is probably true.

The weirdest one I had was Metalstorm on NES. You were a sort of armored robot that could walk on the ceiling, and blow the crap out of everything, there was even a cameo of R-Type's battleship in one of the boss battles. I don't think there was a story to it, but damn was it fun. I spent the better part of 1993 playing it. A lot of people never heard of it, so here's a very fast playthrough I found on youtube:

That was wrong in so many ways.

You beat it the year it came out? Good for you and your persistence/patience then! I didn't have it then - still don't. It never was worth it to me to give enough damns to beat that game. I haven't tried it in a long time (several years now), but who knows. Maybe I'll blow past that one level next time.
