When in doubt, follow the fox.
So, you've played a while, and you want to slow it down, take your time, and do things right this time with your new character. What are the top 5 first things you would do? I don't mean little things, like "pick up a bow" or "find a follower".

I'm not sure what mine would be, but here's a tentative list:

Become Thane of Falkreath
Save 5 grand+ and buy Lakeview Manor
Do the Alduin quest up to getting Dragonrend
Join the college of Winterhold
Join the Bard's college

These are the first things Sahdira did when she came to Skyrim (after finding the dragonstone):

1. Explored the lands around Whiterun and filled in her map.
2. Joined the Companions so she had a place to sleep.
3. Bought a horse.
4. Restored Gildergreen.
5. Decided the Companions did not have exactly the same values as she did and moved to the College of Winterhold.

Irish

Thane of Solitude
Here are my five, in no particular order:

1. Become Thane of Haafingar
2. Save 25k+ and buy Proudspire Manor
3. Become a Legate in the Imperial Legion
4. Complete the Main Quest up to and including those in the Dragonborn DLC
5. Join the Thieves Guild

I only have four things I nearly always do early on:

- get Treasure Map I and the treasure
- become Thane of Falkreath, if only to clear the associated misc missions
- complete "Dawnguard" (the quest) so guards will stop talking about it
- do "A Daedra's Best Friend", since I visit Falkreath at level 10 anyway

Didn't do that last one with this character, because she wants nothing to do with Daedra. I cleared off that "Find the Dog outside Falkreath" misc mission, but didn't start the quest. Barbas is just sitting on the road, waiting for me to change my mind. Not gonna happen, sorry.

- play mainquest to get house in Whiterun, stop playing mainquest after that
- Complete dawnguard, I hate those vampire attacks
- Play some side mission to get free skill boosts
- Exploring the world, get experience and raise stealth and archery certain point (Avoid Markath until I can kill "him" with one sneaked shot and save the victim, same Windhelm, avoid it until I can save rest "chicks" from buther)
- Join Bards college, good for skill boosts

LotusEater

I brake for blue butterflies
From Helgen:

1-Follow river to Whiterun and gather salmon roe and hiscarp
2-Inform Whiterun of dragon, head to BFB to get Unrelenting Force after a detour to Halted Stream. Go back and kill the dragon at the Watchtower to unlock shout and dragons
3-Get back in river and follow it to Ivarstead (sometimes I take the Steps) and then eventually to Riften, killing bandits and collecting ingredients/ore all the way. Mudcrab chitin for early game Cure Disease potions
4-Join Dawnguard, run that for a bit and then leave Skyrim
5-Go live and level in Solstheim until I complete it
6-Go back to Skyrim and play

1 figure out what my character is all about
2 a few hours in character creation to get them looking just right

3 hit Riften for Agent of Mara and kill Grelod for shrouded gear
4 get a Forsworn bow or Bound Bow, and/or silent casting (this takes some work either way)
5 I prefer Breezehome, but my first home could vary as long as I get one.

TheLonelyWolve

My precious
-College of Winterhold
-Dawnguard
-MainQuest
-Dragonborn

Not in exact order, I'll do some parts of one quest, then move to another, then come back (my basic current roleplay)

How do you backstab a Dragon?
1) Clean out every bloomin' dungeon, bandit den and animal den in Whiterun & Falkreath holds and sell everything can get hands on.
2) Join Companions (only if appropriate for type)
3) Find a soul trap item and disenchant then keep enchanting whatever item you are using. Fill every soul gem you can find. Find a Drain Health, Drain Stamina or damage Health item and disenchant. Use one of those 3 enchantments to start enchanting daggers and sell for large profit to make cash.
4) Hunt every animal around and skin. Make leather. Up smithing until can make elven bow & arrows.
5) Buy Breezehome and build Lakeview Manor.
6) Kill Lydia.

Khasrin

Fusozayiit
1) Join the College of Winterhold.
2) Complete either "Brelyna's Practice" and/or "Onmund's Request". Adventuring by myself isn't as fun.
3) Find a weapon with Soul Trap, or level up in Conjuration to get the Soul Stealer perk for bound weapons.
4) Obtain enough gold to build a manor house (location depends on the character) and plant a garden there.
5) Explore random places in search of books for the library or ingredients to cook things in the kitchen.

...and that, in this one's opinion, is the meanest thing the game has done to her yet - making her choose between a kitchen and a library in the East Wing when building a house. *grumbles* Well, maybe the second meanest thing.

My individual roleplay characters tend to have different priorities. However, as a general rule it goes something like this:

1) Pick which crafting skill is going to be your main one and start grinding like a professional.
2) Acquire Lakeview Manor
3) Build & Furnish Lakeview Manor
4) Find Stewards and acquire Housecarls
5) Adopt & Marry

My current character has been so busy doing all that she hasn't even started Dawnguard or the main quest by level 32, even though I totally plan to. But first I need to finish crafting and enchanting stuff to put on the walls and mannequins of all three of the homesteads built. Gotta keep your priorities straight when you are playing SkySims...I mean Skyrim.

1 . Gather all the reagents for potions , after leaving Helgen .

2. Take lessons in Smithing , from B.S. in Riverwood

3. Craft Leather Armor set.

4. Complete Bleak Falls Barrow

5. Obtain Owenership of house in White Run ASAP

Storm_Silver_Wolf

Master of The Silver Wolf Order
1) escape Helgen
2) wonder if that creepypasta i read is real or not
3) hear a guard say Watch the Skies, and get paranoid
4) man in shadows follows me
5) WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE PROPHECY HAS BEEN SEVERED???????
