I like the idea of a strong heroine. I've always adored the concept, so I play as a female.

I've only ever had three female characters. My huntress Selena. The name taken from the beautifully voiced Selena Quintanilla. Who was tragically murdered when I was five. Then I have a Snow Elf female just because imagining how majestic they probably were is fun. Then, last but probably the most dear to me is my Nordic warrior Bec. Named from a book I've long since forgotten and the name of the daughter I lost when I was only 17. I like to try and imagine how she would have been some day. Might seem weird to some gamers, but any game where I can play a female I always make one character in her honor. Just a tradition I have.

My opinion, do what you want. It's your game, your memories that you're putting to that game. Me? I like to make them special. Others? Who knows. Play how you play and try not to worry too much about how or why others play the way they do.

I personally don't see the point of it. While role-playing race and such is one thing. I am not into the idea of playing a female. I mean I love strong female characters and such, but I don't see myself as one if that makes sense.

I always go as a male myself, maybe because I want to imagine myself as some bad ass or something, but I've known people who always picked the girl. I think they like it for a couple reasons, one: they like seeing a woman be a bad ass, and two: they're attracted to the female character? idk three: They just do it to get a laugh or something.

I honestly don't know. I pick Zoey in Left 4 Dead whenever I can, because I think guys always try to save her more. It's hard to pinpoint the reasons.

I play female in Skyrim. My two or three first characters was male, but now it is always female.

Because mods and Skyrim Nord NPC's attitude of foreing and females.

I can play as female, why not. I'm male in real life, but even if I played male, I could not use shouts in real life. So difference between game- and reallife is always there.

Iv had about 5playthroughs now, all experiencing different aspects of the game. My 1st 4 were males and iv only recently started a female character. I love how she runs and walks and its interesting seeing how the preview of clothing in the menu is different from the males.
I was soooo shocked that id only been playing for a couple hours as 'her' and id come across clothes id never seen b4... than it clicked.

For me, I like to experience ALL of what skyrim has to offer and i enjoy playing as a woman more than I thought I would.

Cant wait to marry another hot chick though ;)

Sahdira is the avatar of an entity who is female. She can only imagine that some male entities would feel threatened of another male entity questioning their masculinity due to choosing a female avatar. Perhaps some males are just not as secure as others. Or perhaps they are afraid that they will just be labelled as perverts.

In that regard females have it much easier than males.

Since I have never questioned my masculinity and already know I'm a pervert, I have no issue with the gender of my characters. Of course, I play the genders and races for different reasons than most... :)

My Lumia phone is Red, my first iPod was green (I just dont like blue or black). I have good eye for colors/I see more colors than normal male(moral male colours Dark, white, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and beer). I have many female friends. I play usually female characters (Saints Row 2,3 and 4, oblivion, Fallout, etc). I have no doubts for my masculinity, Why should I have :)
For pervert thing, I have no comment, I said no comments :)

I never play as girls. I'm not a girl I'm a guy so I feel like someone I am playing as should reflect me kinda. I try to immerse myself with the person I am playing as and it's hard if I'm a woman.

Unless it is a Nord, then you're still basically a man.

She did not mean that this is not the case with all males, only the ones who get offended when asked why they use female avatars. Sahdira does not care if males act femininely, masculinly or pervertedly. Just be proud of what you are.

Personally I prefer to play female characters purely because, as a female in reality, I can relate better.

Saying that, I even find it easier to play female argonians and khajiits even though I couldn't possibly understand how it feels to be a lizard or a cat. :p

Medea

The Shadow Queen
Pssh... for years as a girl gamer I played as guys and didn't even have a choice, unless it was some ridiculous blow-up doll like Laura Croft. I don't see what's so awkward about role playing the opposite sex. I can understand it would get weird if you were on a quest to seduce someone of the same sex as you in real life (assuming you are straight in real life), rather than the sex you play in the game, but come on...it's not like Skyrim is an adult rated game. Last time I checked there wasn't even any kissing in Skyrim without mods.

I have two female characters and two male characters. I like to play as the "badass dude" just as much as any guy. Why does it have to be weird for guys to play as a "badass chick"?

High King of Skyrim

King of the barbarian horde
I've dabbled in female characters, but for some reason they never get past level 5. Not sure why, they look rocking hot in armour and all, I just always seem to go back to the male character. What amuses me though, is my girlfriend. My favourite Hearthfire home is Heljarken Hall in the Pale and the housecarl you get is Gregor. He's my favourite housecarl and she's nicknamed him 'Gregor the gay'. Not sure how my girlfriend teasing me has any validity in this thread but there you have it? Anyway, when I make a female character she just laughs and calls me a perve. I guess it just depends on what mood you're in and as Medea just pointed out, it's nice to be given the choice.
