PC Never given the Darkness Returns Quest glitch! Help please!

After I finished the quest to kill Mercer and the cavern flooded, we escaped it. I talked to Karliah and completed the quest and got her bow, but I didn't get the next quest "Darkness Returns" to continue to finish the thieves guild questline.

Can someone help me figure this out so I can continue on with it?

Did you enter the Twilight Sepulcher yet?

The quest Starts when you enter the sepulcher.

You have to have the Skeleton key with you also.

I thought that you got the quest from Karliah and the first part was to enter the Twilight Sepulcher, or at least that's what I remember from last time I did it.

And then there's the problem of it not being on my map :/

Try the console command: setstage TG09 10

The objective should be to enter the twilight Sepulcher.

This worked, It gave me the quest and updated my map, I tested it out a few steps more in and it was going smoothly.

Does anyone have a different fix for this? I tried the setstage command but the quest never starts and the twilight sepulcher still requires a key

You have to loot the key from Mercer Frey's body.

One player reported the same problem on the discussion page for the quest at UESP and posted the followng solution:

When Karliah approaches you as you exit the Sanctuary, cancel talking to her, save, then restart your game, then talk to her again.

I have the Skeleton Key. Oh man, if I have to go back to when I first talk to her 0.o
Would you know if there is any other way to bypass this? Because I wanted to keep the Skeleton Key until I got the unbreakable perk so it's been long hours since I first got the Key and over 20 quests have been done.
