It may seem odd to a lot of you, but it seems like I can't stay with one character for more than level 20. Yet, I see some of you guys stay with a character all the way to level 100. It seems like I have so many ideas and I just seem to get bored of characters. It sometimes seems like I can't stay with one character for more than 5 levels before I create a new one. I have never gotten up to level 81 1/2, the highest I've been was level 45 or something.

How do I stick with my current character and not get bored and create a new character?

I suggest you RP, it makes the game a lot more interesting this way.

Have you tried keeping a journal for your play? It's a lot of work, but my most successful character I've been keeping a journal for and loving it.

I also created her using Porchdrinker's random character creation guide. Go down and read a bit further down the thread as he adds more a bit later on:
http://skyrimforum.com/threads/random-character-creation-system-long.19549/

What made this character so effective was the guide forced me to look outside of the game mechanics and created a richer roleplay experience. Because my character had an interest in cooking she is constantly buying ingredients to cook her own food. Because she is frightened of Falmer she never enters a Dwarven ruin without company. Because she is searching for her family heirlooms she is far more interested in clearing dungeons rather than doing quests. Because she is kind she has to earn all her money honestly, and because she is greedy she will make three extra trips carrying heavy swords worth 13 gold to sell.

Change styles

I usually train other skills than play
So playing and levelling as warrior, I train thief siklls
I changed to play as thief, now I train mage skills

I go usually circles Warrior-thief-mage- and again warrior-thief-mage

For me, I have to relate to the race. I discovered through reading some Wiki that I'm a Bosmer at heart. With archery and sneak skills (which are my favorite ways to play), my Bosmer is practically me in the game. It's excellent.

Manmangler My character right now is a dual-wielding, archer, assassin Argonian. No, he won't join the DB even if he'll be great at it. (A few Dark Elves attacked him and he hates Dark Elves with a passion since he was a slave to them.)

@ W-R-B I don't really relate to my character I'm playing now, but I created an extensive back story for him, and he even has a great story to tell as he explored the land of Skyrim.

What I've been doing with my current character (level 46 and going stronger than ever) is make sure I don't run out of quests/things I want to do. Annika (my character) has only completed one questline (Dawnguard), but will be doing/finishing five others. She's also searching for five items, of which she's so far found two.

This is so true in my case. Whenever I create a non-Nord character, I abandon them (well) before level 30.

For me I just open up the map and look for an area that appears to have been missed (not a lot of markings) or one that is clearable but hasn't been. I also go after specific things. My last character I wanted to fight the Ebony Warrior with so I kept going until I had that chance.

I don't RP, I don't back story, I only barely relate to my character. I just want certain things and challenges.

A friend of mine on the other hand played solely for Trophies. He got every Trophy and then he stopped.

I went exploring, taking Serana with me (both of us in Enchanted Forsworn armor). We found many new area's, ruins and caves.

I don't know how you play, do you try to keep the play linear, and work a quest out before getting another? Or are you trying to empty your quest log? Or do you work on more than one?

I think what you need to figure out, is what exactly are you getting bored of, or with your gameplay, or your char.

Looking for the Snitch in Skyrim...
Well my current character is a level 71 breton mage with thief skills. My first playthrough was as a warrior and gave up at about level 30. Never had the interest to continue after level 30. Started this character and discovered I can only continue Skyrim as either thief or mage. So the character with both skills.

For me, I have to relate to the race. I discovered through reading some Wiki that I'm a Bosmer at heart. With archery and sneak skills (which are my favorite ways to play), my Bosmer is practically me in the game. It's excellent.

This is true. A little bit of yourself in your skyrim character never hurts it would keep you interested.

Yeah, having plenty of missions would keep you going as well. I have only completed the College of Winterhold and companions questline.

Hope you would be able to find a character that keeps you interested.:)

I was the same way and for me it took some trial and error to figure what works for me. Although I have two main characters I use, one archery, the other spell sword. The hybrid characters have such more of a dynamic style of play that there are plenty abilities to use so I don't find myself bored as often. For me it is also important choosing the race and the right look to my character as I started over many a times because I could not "feel" the toon I was playing. I agree with the poster who said figure what it is that is boring you and try to find a remedy for it. Sometimes a break from the game entirely is good.

Dawnstar Guard

Defender of the Pale
Well my with my favorite character (only level twenty) goes around Dawnstar in guard armor slaying monsters, doing quest, and creating a castle full of followers. I think it is fun

TJ0331

Nords forever
I have the same problem. It's just that I like every type of playstyle so I keep making new characters every day. However nords will always be my favorite which is why from now on I am sticking with them. At least for a few days straight hahaha.

I usually set fairly significant goals for a character, like finishing certain questlines under certain rules or constraints, like no magic, no weapons, no equipment, no crafting, or no followers.

Is there a guide anywhere on how to RP in Skyrim, exactly? I've roleplayed on forums, through IM and in games like WoW and NWN, but it always took at least another extra person for such. How do you RP alone in a single player game? How do you start? I cannot exactly imagine writing half a novel in a personal journal right away, that would be too overwhelming. And more importantly: is there a plugin to allow writing books and notes in the game? I remember Oblivion had one. Yes, I'm a PC player.

i'm the exact opposite, i have a very, VERY hard time deleting a character once i get started. i have some "like my main" that are literally years old, i have so many in fact that i've had no choice but to delete some to keep my hard drive from being over run.. and i was really sad having to do that. i'd suggest presenting all those ideas of yours into the same character, you don't HAVE to create a new character to start every new build, so long as its mage or warrior based than any version build of either can be converted into a different version mage or warrior with those based skills at any time, thats the beauty of this game! i have several warrior characters that have gone from assassin, to 1 handed shield warrior, to two handed. some of my most powerful mages started out as simple sneak characters, but are now destruction spell using power houses! :D

How do you backstab a Dragon?
I was having a similar issue. Although my issue is not with race, it is with style of play.

One of our fellow forumers suggested that I randomize my actions and not get in to any quests until I hit level 20 or so. It has worked wonders.

I start a new character and then just head off in any direction and keep going and just take the encounters, dungeons, barrows, caves and NPCs as they come.

It's done wonders for me. Now I'm getting in to RP and it has added a depth that I hadn't anticipated. Sometimes my characters even surprise me.

I try not to overthink anymore and just be reactive to situations for the first 20 levels or so and it helps to establish what the character is really like.

It requires a bit of acting, my friend. In a sense you must become that character. you are no longer yourself, base your actions off what would This barabarian do? or this priest? from there just keep it simple
