I was going to make a new save and was wondering what the best class/race would be to join the Dark Brotherhood. I kinda hate ranged classes though.
And also, on my mage save I flew through that first dungeon and I think it was because I was using magic from afar, how will being a full on melee be doing dungeons and all? Will I notice any extra challenges or what?
Probably the Kajiit. It has plus 10 sneak and plus 5 archery or something like that... sneaky guys I'm a wood elf and they work just fine, though they have a decrease with melee weapons.
Khajiit- Best overall starting stealth stats, including the +10 to Sneak, geared towards an assassin/thief build
Argonian- Bonus to sneak and lockpicking, plus (I think) they get a bonus to Illusion spells as well
Dark Elf- Bonus to stealth and archery, geared towards a magic assassin
Wood Elf- Ideal sniper type
Since you dislike ranged types I'd stick with any of these four races then just focus on melee. You'll be at a disadvantage early on as far as melee goes (if you really want a melee advantage go with Redguard, you'll just have to level up your stealth skills a little more than usual). Plus considering they are persecuted for being elves/beast race, they make for perfect assassins role-playing wise, especially Dunmer.
As for being full-melee, I play a full-melee warrior (Nord two hander) and its not so bad. A little challenging against the likes of trolls but against humanoid enemies it's not so bad. The game is made so you can go with almost any build be it full warrior, stealth, mage or a hybrid.
My current character is Khajitt and im going for basically the same build (except Archery in there as well). So far I can say the extra bonuses are definitely nice starting out, plus I like that I can make them look all scruffed up like a alley cat lol. Once you get Deadly Assassin though id go for spells in the left hand. Illusion would probably be best , Destruction (Ice for snare , Fire for added dps) when/if you get detected before you can get your sneak attack in. I personally think dual wield daggers is way overated, to many options available with Magic in the other hand.
