Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

I personally love the fact that both sides have their ups and downs.

This is one of the few things that still makes the TES series stand out. There is no clear 'good' and 'dark 'side although arguably you could make a logical deduction and come to a conclusion that one side has more 'good' to it than the other.

I'm more sympathetic towards the Imperial Legion, however.

I am not all that well-versed in history or the war between the Thalmor and the Imperial Legion, however, but from what I've gathered, wouldn't it be harder for not only the Empire but also Skyrim itself to withstand against the Thalmor if the Empire and Skyrim weren't proper allies?

Harder, yes, impossible no. It's always better to have more resources and manpower in warfare but currently the only form of strife between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion is between the Justiciars and its citizenry. Despite all the posturing, there's no guarantee of imminent warfare between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion if Skyrim is no longer part of the Empire because of a Stormcloak victory in the civil war. There's also very little likelihood of one between the Aldmeri Dominion and Skyrim due to geographical constraints.

While it's understandable why some players take the long view and want to keep what remains of the Empire intact for eventual renewed warfare with the Aldmeri Dominion, it's also understandable why some players take the shorter view of wanting to end oppression under the Justiciars now instead of suffering under it indefinitely.

My current character has had offers from both sides. But she chose her own path and forced the treaty. She will decide either way when she has dealt with Alduin and Miraak. Or she may not even get herself involved with the civil war at all.

That's a pretty speech, almost succeeded at putting me to sleep or boring me to death, take your pick.

I'd rather listen to Galmor's racial idiocy than Thalmor superiority speeches.

I have no hatred for the races of Man, but they are young. Like all children, they are driven by emotion. They lack the wisdom that comes with age. I would sooner place an Altmer infant on the Ruby Throne than surrender Tamriel to their capricious whims.
The Altmer, the Bosmer and the Khajiit share the common traits of intelligence, patience and reason. We do not seek riches or plunder. Domination is not our goal, nor is the acclamation of power for its own sake.
Today we make our stand. Today we take back the Ruby Throne, which is ours by ancient right and the blessings of the Divines.
Stand with us.

I still wonder why instead of creating the Stormcloaks for full-out civil war Ulfric doesn't just use them as distraction for a little Thalmor-killer-militia. 'Cause while his "boys" are out there killing Imperials some of their buddies still get kidnapped at night.
And the Dragonborn can't protect everyone in Skyrim all night long in all provinces.

Because he's arrogant and wants his name in songs for people to sing about him. People don't sing about the little guys. Just the leaders that were at the front of the battle.

But he isn't in battle. And if he does get into heated battle he is far away from the front. And the first time he faced Imperials he surrendered without fighting at all.
Gah, probably wouldn't do much anyway... I didn't see Stormcloaks attacking Thalmor patrols yet but once a team of Forsworn did and they got their half-naked asses kicked quite badly.

I think the most bad ass Civil War NPC was this Imperial Soldier attacking Dawnstar with a few of his buddies, he did one of those finish moves that has this run, jump and stab into the chest. While he was doing that he yelled "Send Ulfric my regards!"

the imperial storyline focuses mainly on defending, while the stormcloak storyline focuses mainly on taking over imperial holds.

The only defensive quest for the Imperials is the Battle for Whiterun, the rest of the quest line is an offensive campaign against Stormcloak territory.

Both quest lines are basically the same.

Well, Whiterun was thumbing it's nose at the Empire and the Empire didn't really seem to care. So, in theory, the Stormcloak side of Skyrim could have done the same and just served like "Watchmen" over their land, protecting the Talos worshipers and forming "raider hit-squads" to stick it to Thalmor soldiers on their patrols or burning down Thalmor bases.

And yes I know this would more than likely have put them into conflict with the Empire at some point, but then again maybe not because the Empire was ignoring the WGC in Skyrim. My point is, Ulfric created the war. The Empire signed the WGC and he flung the door wide open for the Thalmor to gain a foothold in his own country and then lied to his own people for his cause to have eyes and ears. So he could, you know... set Skyrim free...

A self-made, self-proclaimed, freedom fighter he was, who danced on the graves of ALL the soldiers who died for the WGC so the Empire could live on and have hope, with the WGC being signed by majority vote AND by Istlod, former High King of Skyrim.

"Upon my honor I do swear undying loyalty to the Emperor, and unwavering obedience to the officers of his great Empire. May those above judge me, and those below take me, if I fail in my duty. Long live the Emperor! Long live the Empire!

QUESTION.
What if due to uncertain natural circumstances Alinor would be destroyed and gone, vanishing in the sea.
And word would spread that the only Thalmor left are those stationed in the Empire (probably a hundred or maybe less).
Am I right with the assumption that they'd be instantly hunted down and killed by both the Imperial forces and civil population?

NENALATA

Last King of the Ayleids - RETIRED
Not necessarily. Probably the BEST Response for this type of question would be for one to consider the "Snow Elves" or the "Heartland Wild Elves". Just cross ref that with all the really frightening, really terrible Altmer Wizards I encountered in various Ayelid ruins/Imp City Sewers and you have your answer. And yes, Liches do count.

Also, I would say "no" to the premise because the Empire is supposed to be "Tolerant". That's one reason why I chose to side with the Daggerfell Convenant. Now ~ let's be honest... I have always played as a High Elf and I still support the Dominion ~ Wholeheartedly. However, I also will have a Daggerfall Char (Prob an Orc or Breton) because throughout my TES exp I've been really impressed by the char and culture of those three tribes.

Even in Skyrim, The Redguard, Bretons and Orcs (And High Elves) at least to me ~ Make the most sense of any of the other races. I can see where they're coming from. So, Daggerfell Cov is a GREAT faction to join if you're pro-Empire. Like I said, they're thinkers... Tolerant men who aren't just thinking about what's best for themselves... unlike the Nords. Sorry Nords. Ever since I've first dealt with them in Oblivion, it always seems like the Nords are addicted to Drama and running their mouths, instigators.

Unfort, Skyrim has proven me right on that thus far. I also like how every other Province is freaking out and letting themselves get played as tools except for Highrock. They're totally kool about all this, not making any knee-jerk decisions, not tearing up treaties made in good faith with the Empire, not even taking Uflric's side and being "wooed" by his Charisma and double talk. And for that, they now and forever will always have my respect.

WHAT IF

...all these discussions about Imperials, Stormcloaks and Thalmor will prove to be totally unnecessary because before any Great War 2.0 happens, the Argonians conquer the rest of Morrowind, invade eastern territories in Skyrim and massacre half of Elsweyr in an attempt to conquer everything while Empire and Dominion are at each others necks?
