In My Time of Need: Kematu or Saadia? (possible spoilers)

I really did'nt like The leader of this group . You inguire as to why this woman should be captured and he cops an attitude , and tells you it's none of your business . If im gonna kidnap some one then I feel intitled to know all the details . He died an Quick and clean death . :D
That wasn't the leader. That was one of his lackies. Who's to say that man too was unsure who to trust? The leader fully and confidently explains himself.

Granted who's telling the truth is hard to say, but personally i believe the warriors over Saadia. Something about her doesn't sit well with me. Though Kematu is kinda snarky, but it's not as unsettling.

I feel the lackie was speaking for the leader , witch is the same thing . KInda like the current , occupant of the White House and his lackies. :D

That belief should be easily dispelled when you meet Kematu as he tells you the alleged reasons they're hunting Saadia. What did you do? Just run in their and kill him without engaging in any dialogue?

My first time since i've done this quest I chose today to kill Kematu and it took several attempts at lvl 15 with Lydia but I was able to down all those redguards. I don't know if it was really worth it tho as the pay out is the same and really get no benefits. Would have been nice if we could marry Saadia as she is one of the hottest chicks in the game.

The first character or two of mine, I decided to help Saadia, I think.

But ever since then I've decided to help Kematu, lying to Saadia and leading her to the trap, where she then becomes paralyzed. As soon as Kematu pays up, I kill him, Saadia comes back "alive" (I think, right?) and then I kill her and loot both.

Now there ya go.... I really like this . Do them both and all dout and discussion is over .:)

Daedric gods/goddesses would approve of such a course of action :D

Sahdira did not like being threatened by that weak girl and her puny knife. It is an insult. Only a foolish girl draws a weapon on Khajiit and not expect to see her claws. This was the first action that broke Khajiit's trust. But there was more than just foolishness in this act; there was desperation and fear. These things make liars out of anyone. So Sahdira gave this girl to her hunter.

The evidence was overwhelming against the Al'akr mercs. They were harrassing every redguard woman in sight, they took up with bandits, and even one of their own threatened that to speak to Kematu would mean your life. They were scumbags.

The only reason Kematu wants to speak to you at the end is because you've carved your way through his cave full of outlaws, and he's not completely certain he can kill you - if he was sure that you weren't the angel of death come for him he'd have never drawn breath to parlay. That's how bullies work. They appear strong because they prey on the weak. The dragonborn isn't weak.

It's always easy for me to make this quest choice. I don't care if I'm playing a noble paladin or an evil bastard with a skewed sense of decency, it always comes to this: A small army of bullies wants to do harm to a waitress.

I don't like bullies. Whether Saadia is lying or telling the truth never factors into that simple equation.

Weak, is a matter of perspective. People that dominate, and realizes there are others. Or perhaps other groups, that could dominate them, are wise not to fight battles they can't win. We all prey on those weaker than us, because we too are animals. That is how it is, that is how it will probably always be. I don't want to be so rude, but perhaps it is time to take away that shiny fairy tale dust from your view on reality? But it was certainly a very cowardly way to go up against one little girl. We will all burn down Skyrim laughing every now and then, untill a threat we can't defeat appears, and then we will run like a true sissy, or die like a true moron. You can be a smart asshole, or a dead idiot. I'm gonna go with option 1.

This time around I decided to side with Saadia, as I actually listened to her side of the story, and spoke to the Alik'r prisoner in the Dragonsreach dungeon. The latter said that he'd screwed up by getting caught, which arose some suspicion. Definitely fit in with what Saadia had told me - enough so to convince me to kill Kematu (who was really tough, btw).
But not before I'd watched the hilarious interaction between the Alik'r prisoner and one of the Whiterun Guards! :D

Since then I've been killing any Alik'r I see as random encounters, still harassing those Redguard women.
Getting costly, though... my sneak attacks always seem to fail.

I usually side with her. Not because I necessarily am taking her side (although the prisoner does raise some interesting questions, yes), but, because it's more profitable. While I get the same monitary reward helping her, I make more from looting if I go after Kematu.

I used to always side with Saadia, but then after a little research I realized that her story doesn't make a lot of sense. First off she claims not to know the Alik'r are in the city, but then a few seconds later tells me about one that's been arrested. She also says that she's not sure why they're after her, but perhaps it's because she spoke out against the Dominion. Why would that be an issue in Hammerfell which has kicked the Dominion out?

I have a question about that questline though. Whenever I get rid of Kematu, there are always 2 Alik'r that hang out at Whiterun's front gate, just standing there and saying hello pleasantly. Even the guards don't seem to mind. So far, mine have been there for about 60 days in game. You'd think they'd get tired and go away.

I hadn't thought of that. Good catch! Rep points due!

She indicates by her reaction she didn't know those particular Alik'r are still looking for her. It has nothing to do with her awareness of the one in prison.

Read back into the thread. Nothing in this quest is lore consistent. It's based on the incorrect premise that the Aldmeri Dominion still occupy southern Hammerfell. That's why Kematu states that the resistance is alive in well in Hammerfell which makes absolutely no sense since the Aldmeri Dominion withdrew from the province under the terms of the Second Treaty of Stros M'kai decades ago. The ages of the characters also make no sense. Kematu claims that Saadia was the cause of the fall of Taneth during the first year of the Great War but that absurd notion requires us to believe that she did it when she was a toddler given how long ago it was and her apparent age in the game.

All in all it seems like the quest was developed before a decision was made to set the time of the game 26 years after the Great War ended. It's probable that there was some thought given to setting the game during the time closely following the signing of the White Gold Concordat but prior to the signing of the Second Treat of Stros M'kai (that certainly would have been interesting if Bethesda had gone that route) but Bethesda ultimately decided to set it farther ahead in time. The game was rushed to release so it's not surprising that they never remedied the inconsistencies in this quest. As a practical matter it probably wasn't fixable anyway because it would require rehiring the voice actors who had finished their part of the production several months before release.

If the quest is to make any sense while your doing it, you simply have to suspend disbelief based on the lore and pretend it's 4E 176ish and not 4E 201. Otherwise you're dealing with a bunch of insanely delusional people on both sides of the quest.

It's good to have them there as cannon fodder extra defense in case of dragon/vampire attacks, though, isn't it?

I always rescue Saadia though the first time I got cold feet when facing the room with all the Al'kir. But come on, the guy is an obvious bounty hunter, has no morals, abandoned his own men in jail and Saadia is one of the cutest npc's in the game.

Both stories have massive holes in them but the killing of the bounty hunters gives the best rewards in skillups and money. When I play a mage I always get the bounty hunters bunched up in the cave and burn them to death. My sword and board guy used a similar technique to fight them one at a time. My only regret is that it isn't possible to marry Saadia.

It's a bug. They're not supposed to be there but if you kill Kematu in Swindler's Den it often triggers this bug.

If you want to avoid this bug there's an alternate way of going about this quest and taking Saadia's side. When you first meet Kematu inside Swindler's Den, lie to him and agree to help him. Get Saadia to follow you to the stables with the appropriate dialogue selection and, when you meet Kematu there, kill him before he paralyzes Saadia. Saadia will be upset that you lied to her but is still grateful and pays you her reward. You can also still get one set of Alik'r gear off of Kematu's body. In addition to preventing the two Alik'r from spawning at the gates, if you do this quest at a lower level, it removes the need to fight all of Kematu's men which can be difficult at low levels.

On the plus side: with the bug you have 2 very pleasant people to see every time you come in to the city. They say hello and are friendly (unlike so many other inhabitants that are just rude, needy, whiney or surly)! :)

I've tried the "kill at the stables" thing, but, for some reason, when I take his side, every time I get Saadia to the stables, he's killed the stable keeper and his son (or at least I assume he did since they're always laying there dead with him looming over them).

For me it's just easier to take Ms. Unbroken and wipe out the whole den, loot it and then let Saadia know she's safe. :)

That's odd. If you want to try it again the only thing I can suggest is to try it late at night when those two should be inside their house.
