Yes, I enjoy them! I like the old orc "good death" one, the revelers, Vittoria Vici's wedding guests, and the fugitive person who asks you to hide an enchanted weapon from the hunter. I don't like the random thieves and skooma dealers though. :p

There was once that Sahdira was in the wilds and a thief ran up to her. 'Hold onto this' he said 'until I come back. If you tell anyone I'll kill you.' Sahdira did not like these threats. Smart Khajiit does no let the man who threatened her life get away to kill her another day. Mayhaps Khajiit aren't brave, but she does know the best time to strike. So when he turned she shot him in the back. Stupid thief cannot kill her when he's dead.

Random dragon encounters just never get stale. I've had a few builds that purposely left dragons locked out and I'm always amazed at how much I miss them.

Solstheim has a cool random. I was walking along the east coast of the island and I passed a few wimpy dudes heading in the other direction. I let them pass and continued on, next thing I know I'm being mauled by three werebears. Did not see that coming...

Mixed feelings, though mostly because the script system seems to like hitting my character with multiple random encounters all at once.

In general, I do not like encounters that cause forced dialogue.

Attack me if you wish, give me a reason to speak, pique my interest, but when I'm running by or in the middle of combat with something else, I do not want my character forced into a conversation.

Thus to me things like the orc with the death wish and the wearbears are usually enjoyable as the first requires you to speak to the orc first while the wearbears just attack after passing what seems to be more random non-hostiles.

On the flip side, I always get annoyed by the thief encounters with the forced dialogue demanding money or an item to be held.

Lotus I am still yet to come upon these werebears. I have been looking for that Dudes brother for ages.
I LOVE random dragon encounters, especially since I hit level 59 on master. Revered dragons everywhere!
The skooma guy got Lydia early on in my game, and she glitched out on me, or overdosed, and went face down in the dirt and slid over the ground behind me for miles and miles.... It was so weird....like a creepy Lydia/lizard thing.

There was this time a courier came up to me and handed me a letter along with about 400 septims in heritage and offered his condolences.

Apparently one of my elder family members named Bandit Thug passed away. I wish I had known him better. :c

I love random encounters. They are entirely the reason I never fast travel. They can make roleplaying interesting as well. I had one Thalmor refugee who wasn't at all surprised when Dark Brotherhood Assassins and Justiciar Execution parties started seeking her out, and another who was seriously confused by it as she had basically spent two hundred years imprisoned in a cave with no contact with the outside world before the vampires using her as cattls were all killed.

I'm fond of the Dawnguard random encounters. The Vigilants of Stendarr at night who say: "Hey you, traveller! Come here!" then when you get close enough to see the three stripped corpses these "Vigilants" start attacking and you see they are vampires.

I'll always be very fond of the Traveller as well. The first time I saw him I was going: "I don't recognise that NPC. He must be new with Dawnguard. Oh, he's looking at me and walking towards me. He must be going to say something. Maybe he's going to give me a quest... 'I love it when dinner walks right into my arms!' That's a strange thing to say..." Bam, half my health gone and I contracted Sanguinaire Vampiris. Surprised the hell out of me.

And the three thugs who impersonate an Imperial Patrol and try to fine you for interfering with Imperial business are always good for a laugh, especially if you pay the fine. I often do just because that orc's voice actor is so funny.

I kid you not, I was just killed by an invisible Khajiit!

It was at the random encounter point between Dragon Bridge and Solitude, at the foot of the hill that leads to Meridia's Shrine on Mount Kilkreath. I was riding a horse and spotted a red dot, but no actual target darting across my mini-map. I started looking for this attacker, when suddenly half of my health left me. Not the arrow sound, the sword sound.

I was watching as Lydia start fighting, and I see subtitles for 'Khajiit' as he handles Lydia. I do a couple of fly-bys on the horse, swinging my sword and eventually light him up with the fire enchantment effect. I do a few more passes and start feeling pretty confident.

Then I die.

Stupid invisible Khajiit.

Stupid glitch.

Not sure if this would be considered a random encounter, but I was running to meet up with some Imperials and I saw two wolves running around and thought they were after me until I realized I was sneaking and wasn't detected. They were running around a farmer who cowered in fear as I continued to kill the wolves very quickly. When I talked to him, he ended up giving me a sob story and I gave him 5 gold......

So I saved his life then gave him monies...wtf??

He might have been a gypsy that hypnotized you to give him that 5 gold.

Oh nah, just that around the parts I used to live at some folks generally believed that gypsies were good at hypnotism which helped them scam people. My mother herself claimed to have been hypnotised by some old gypsy woman when she was a child. I thought it was a pretty widespread superstition.

But every joke has a fraction of truth to it. Perhaps your character does indeed have a thing for men. Especially weathered farmers. ;)

I just came out of the Thieves Guild and see a guard with his weapon drawn, stalking something. So I follow him. Another guard stops to watch the first guard stalk buy... I can tell he is thinking the same thing as me.. "WTH?.."o_O , and then as I go past him he whistles at me and says "Is that.....Dragonscale armour? What I wouldn't give for a set of that.." First time a guard has said that to me.
