I've googled my fingers nearly to the bone, and have researched in this forum a bit but cannot find the direct answers I seek. A lot of information on Shadowmere, but not direct information on my contemplations.

I've learned that Shadowmere is not programmed like most of the horses in the game, and counts as an animal follower, therefore eliminating the ability to recruit another. Does anyone know a workaround or solution? The only information that I've been able to find is that it is possible to kill Shadowmere, and s/he is supposed to respawn with 10-14 days in the place it died. Yes, even it's gender seems to be conflicting in dialogue. Anywho, if you kill it - can you then recruit another animal follower? What happens when Shadowmere spawns again, it s/he then an "inactive follower" and waits to be recruited? Or does it trump all others, even active animal followers? Am I overlooking another way to accomplish this? Sure would be neat to try out one of the dawnguard huskies.

Thanks!

Not true. Shadowmere is a horse and doesn't count as a follower, animal or otherwise.
