Any help would be greatly appreciated! I had the game when it first came out made a bit of progress however quickly realized with two children the time wasn't there to fully immerse myself into the game. So I stupidly traded it in (forgive me) I saw the error of my ways and just bought it back and am currently a level 12ish mage. I was advised to go straight to the college of winterhold and have been doing the quests there, Will be working through Labrynthia or whatever its called tonight. My question is this I intend to level up my destruction and am wondering if I join up with the dark brotherhood can I enchant the armor to be more kicka** than what im hearing about the archmages robes? also I'm playing on xbox 360 so modding is a no go for me.

Joining the Dark Brotherhood does nothing for your Enchanting. Some players like to make four pieces of Fortify Destruction gear each reducing magicka cost by 25% to allow them to spam Destruction spells. If you have the Extra Effect perk you can do this for two schools of magic. Alternatively you can mix it up and have multiple schools of magic without 100% reduction in magicka cost.

Just mainly wanted the free horse and the achievement for joining the dark brotherhood, the armor looked cool as well, would you say the archmage robes are a better bet though?

Yes. If you're playing a pure mage then you wouldn't wear armor. The armor enchantments have no benefit for a mage. There is also a Shrouded clothing set but the enchantments are made for a Nightblade not a pure mage. The Archmage's Robes give 15% Fortify enchantment to all schools of magic along with a Fortify Magicka Regeneration and Fortify Magicka enchantment. The Shrouded Robe only has the enchantment for Fortify Destruction.

Pure mage is where I'm Headed so I guess I will experiment with what works best for me, One more question if you don't mind answering should I jump back into the main storyline after the winterhold quest line or is there any specific quests you know of that offer destruction gear? also I'm trying to level it up(destruction) as fast as I can Im around 54 now so I got a ways to go.

Be careful, destruction damage levels off, so you won't the same damage as on earlier levels.....

I haven't played a completely pure mage yet, but after a few hybrids, I would say conjuration is more effective and magica efficient than destruction in most situations. Get the Flaming Familiar spellbook and use it instead of fireballs when you are ready to start leveling conjuration. You could buy regular conjure familiar now, but Flaming Familiar you have to get from a dungeon.
Goal being conjure Dremora Lords, expert level, and unless you want dead thralls, the master perk isn't worth it.

If you are sneaking at all, silent casting in illusion is a must. If you want to use the calm/fear/fury spells, every perk in the tree is worth getting.

There are no specific quests. Jewelry that has the Peerless Destruction enchantment can be found randomly at shops. Radiant Raiment in Solitude is the best shop to check for rings, circlets and necklaces. Like all shop items, available enchantments are based on your level and Peerless Destruction unlocks at level 40. Robes of Peerless Destruction are only available as found loot on the bodies of high level mages (Cryomancers, Electromancers and Pyromancers and Arch Cryomancers, Arch Electromancers and Arch Pyromancers) and high level Vampires (Ancient and Volkihar Vampires) however they have the benefit of also providing a 50% Regenerate Magicka enchantment which can't be duplicated with custom enchanting items. Until you get one of those you can use the Master Robes of Destruction or alternatively by that time you'll probably have the Archmage's Robes.

Thank you all for all the tips, So I've finished my college of Winterhold time,Ran through the Dark brotherhood quests jumped back into story and now am starting the thieves guild lol I'm all over the place. I have noticed destruction getting a bit weaker usually taking a few shots of fireball or chain lightning to take down the tougher enemies. Illusion is leveled to 100, and silent casting is all set. I'm Leaning towards conjuration next Im level 25 and the leveling is slower now or so it seems so I'm kind of kicking myself for going full on destruction or to be more precise for putting perk points into augmented frost and shock as I mainly burn stuff unless fighting other mages or dragons shock tends to take them down faster either that or I'm just imagining it.

I am also trying to get my enchantment leveled up as well and have pretty much been breaking everything I come across to learn the enchantments (no use for weapons unless I'm cashing them in for money anyhow) I might have missed it in winterhold but is there a trainer there I can pay for some quick easy levels?

No worries, I had to look it up to be certain. Help in this game is a must for some of us.....:D

I am one that found this place solely because I was floundering. There are a lot of people here that can help you with a lot of things. There is one person that has an entire thread dedicated to helping people with builds. You just have to ask, and someone here will be able to help you out.

Any thoughts on which stone blessing would be best for me? I'm currently using the one found at the beginning of the game I believe it levels my magic skills 20% faster

Basically, just choose High Elf if you want a race that is good with magic from the start. Other than that, race is just personal preference, because most of your skills will balance out over time.

:)

U aren't imagining it fire works wonders on vampires frost keeps weaker enemies away id say conjuration destruction and alteration are some excellent trees to start a mage off with destruction combat alteration combat and light and conjuration who wouldnt want to summon minions plus enchanting those 4 are great trees but I think I went off topic lol
