That I'm not sure of as I don't use staves but judging by what the guy above us said about unlimited destruction staff uses for 0 destruction cost I'd assume it's the same for every tree. I have Illusion and Destruction at 0 so I can spam Mayhem and blast everybody with lightning while they fight each other, it's pleasurable.

indeed, i'm fixin to try it out and i'll let you know if it worked..
oh and yes that is very satisfying, i've tried going back to limited magicka before and its just not possible once you get used to having infinite, provides a whole new level of depth to the gameplay as well cause you then have to get skilled at spell fighting, just cause you have unlimited magicka doesn't make you unstoppable, learned this the hard way many times when i first discovered the exploit.

True, still very stoppable, but I use Heavy Armor and with not having to watch my magicka bar it lets me concentrate on my health and movements to stay alive.

Yeah, learning that you aren't instantly killing foes with magicka at the wrong time really sucks.......

There's two paths you can take.

A. Generic
B. Creative

if you chose path A, you chose to wear Robes, as that's what just about all Mages wear.

if you chose path B, you chose Heavy Armour, because that's being outside the norm for the typical Mage stereotype.

One could also argue that one who wears Heavy Armour and casts Spells is a Battlemage.

Yeah, path "B" for me. In looking at my build earlier, I think Destruction is out, and Archery is in to take advantage of the Bound Bow & Soul Stealer.

Archery, HA, 1H, Sneak, Illusion, Conjuration......with one point in Smithing to make my armor better. Might have to invest in Enchanting later on in the build, once I get some of the other skills high enough.

yup!! it works!!! :D
and i found something else as well, not only does it work on staffs but it also works on enchanted weapons, giving them unlimited charges! lets say you have a nord war axe with frost damage enchanted on it, if you're wearing an item with 100% or more destruction spell reduction than that weapon will literally have infinite charges! meaning every swing will deal frost damage endlessly! this is by far one of the coolest things i've discovered on the game in a long time, can't believe i never knew about this..

I knew about this a looooong time ago lol I thought it was common knowledge
well i would've found out about it a long time ago if i had gone with spell reduction for infinite magicka but i always just maxed out my magic bar to gain unlimited, i honestly never considered going the reduction route.. i will from now on though.

Damn, now I have to rethink my Altmer Battlemage.......Enchanting is now a must.......

When I play as a mage character I don't use destruction but, I still reduce the cost of destruction to 0 just for my weapons. I use a dagger with absorb magicka and absorb health, since they're both destruction I get unlimited uses with a petty soul and I can make the enchantment as powerful as I want ;)

Awesome. Also if you have the fire/frost /shock perks in the Destro tree (ie Augmented Flames) they apply to the equivalent weapon enchants. But the perks above those do not apply.

exactly! and another thing i like about it is you can place whatever enchantment you want on a weapon, 2 if you've got the perk for it, and EVERYTHING placed on it will be unlimited! so far i've created a two handed daedric battle axe with stamina drain and soul trap, its also smithed legendary! so if the huge damage output doesn't kill them the inability to move via stamina drain will render them defenceless, plus every kill fills a soul gem! this weapon makes you feel like a walking tank.. lol

In my opinion go for robes in a sense u got your scales spell for armor u can go stealth conjure in stealth missions and destruction magic in both long ranged and short ranged battle. in a sense its fun using robe but i advice using light on hands or boots but either way its fine just max your enchantment skills for at least increase magic or less in cast don't use the 0 magic cast you will get bored. just do 3:2:0 within 5 level for stat M/H/S good day have fun.. for role play be a rogue who use your enemies weapon and conjure weapon if stealth and destruc + conjure if head to head battle

Robes, Light, or Heavy works depending on what you want to do with your mage. If you're staying out of the Melee, and spamming from afar, Light is fine, especially with an Altmer for max running speed. I usually wear both, Heavy Helmet (Usually a Mask) boots, and Gloves to not be quite so squishy. That way, you get the magicka recovery, and some minimal protection, doesn't slow you down noticebly either. Works better than Leather unless you're going for Spellsword, so you need Wind Walker for Stamina recovery.
