How do you backstab a Dragon?
I think I MIGHT just use a mace, maybe even Iron like Daelon said for aesthetics. I guess even if it's only iron you can make any weapon OP with enchants :p

Also, another question : Should I use healing spells or turn undead spells? I don't like wards because its like a "per second thing", and it takes way to much mana. I'm kinda leaning towards healing spells since if I do use the iron mace, I'm prob going to do turn undead as an enchant...
I don't really see why you can't use both. In classic RPG, a paladin does do both although in my play the paladin more lays waste to the undead than just turns them. After all, what fun is there in the undead running away?

Molag Bal = Evil. I am not doing it.
So here are the choices :

Silver Sword
Iron Mace
Dawnbreaker

And no, I will not upgrade with smithing, but I WILL enchant. Vote?
Why would you want wimpy weapons? I hope you intend to do all your fighting at lower levels cause you wouldn't stand a chance against a Drauger Death Lord with just an unimproved Silver Sword, Iron Mace or even Dawnbreaker (okay, well maybe Dawnbreaker if you got in a good shot). I know some of y'all are all about technique, but underpowered is probably just as bad as overpowered.

Ah, but is it an enchanted, perked up, improved Battle Ax? That's the question. Besides they'd probably shout it out of your hands anyway and you'd be crawling around looking for it. Tip: Always keep at least a couple of spares on hand for these situations. ;)

That is what Wuthruud is for, although I almost left it in one cave where I got the priest mask that resists poison & diseases....I had to backtrack to find it, fortunately it was still there.

It's still pretty wimpy though. And it can't be enchanted (can it?). I can create something better myself.

No idea, I just haven't gotten rid of it because it was the reward of a quest. I prefer the SFSBA, although not enchanted, it does more damage......plus the perks were greater when I was leveling up. I might choose a 2H Sword this time, just for something different, plus, I might disenchant Dawnbreaker, use a Black Soul Gem, and enchant my 2H Sword with the Dawnbreaker enchantment, if I can.......:D

It's called roleplaying. Iron maces were always used by paladins. It's also called AESTHETICS.

Plus, with enchants an iron mace / silver sword could still do massive damage if you used it right. Although it wouldn't do as much as a say Legendary Daedric Sword with 74 damage fire and frost damage enchants, it would still do great damage to undead ( silver sword ) or do some anti-undead effect ( banish and turn undead on mace )

Accepted but I still do not understand. It's just me. I understand your point about the enchantments, but, if I were going up against 6 Draeger Death Lords and wanted to survive, I'll rely on my Daedric Great sword and it's 112 per hit damage + enchantment before I'd use my 30 damage iron mace with enchantments. Just me. No judgment. You're just a far better player than I could ever be. :) (Come to think of it though - if I was a paladin, I would most definately not be using Daedric. It would be anathema.)

- on a side note, I just found this cool silver great sword, but I can't improve it (although I can enchant). Anybody know why?

Silver cannot be freaking improved. It's stupid ;/ But there are mods that let you do it.

And umm... Just asking, but when do you come across 6 Draugr Death Lords at a time?

I run right through deathlords on master with Windshear and the Blade of Woe displaying 110-125 damage, no damage enchantments. Bound bow, even easier.

It can definitely be done. But they made the difficulty adjustment quick enough and broad enough to satisfy roleplays like this for people with greatly different skill levels. My big thing on this playthrough is that I'm not using anything higher grade than steel or elven. If i was having trouble, I'd drop the difficulty long before I'd abandon my mission /roleplay.

I haven't stuck with a 2h character yet, but is the damage really that low? My skyforge steel and nord hero swords are doing that much damage with 100+125% smithing.

His steel is legendary. God's be praised

I'm going to hit sovnegard tonight. They'll probably be death overlords in this game. I'm hoping for an epic battle.

Iron has supernatural properties in lore in real life. Some sort of anti-undead but i don't remember exactly. If i was fighting with an unsmithed iron mace, I would probably play on adept. Unsmithed is hard for me to wrap my head around though.

This was a fun thread to read through because I had thought up a Paladin in my head just the other day. It's also interesting to see the variety in which people view Pallies. I've always thought of them as heavy armor wearing religious knights with big two-handed swords...kind of like Knights Templar meets fantasy (I made myself laugh considering how much fantasy surrounds the historical knights, but I digress, lol).

I would have gone with Steel Plate Armor, a two-handed sword (there are some options, in my mind), and Restoration would be important. Probably enchantment and smithing as well.

The real question, and this is where I stumbled, who would be the deity in which my crusade was in the name of? Meridia is an option, but she is a Daedric Lord. Stendarr has enough fanatics, they don't need one more. Ideas I came up with was Kynareth and basically go against anything or anyone harming nature or that was unnatural while roaming around protecting travelers from thieves, bandits, and just general bad people. The other idea I had, which probably doesn't float as well, is being a Knight of Talos who, during this time of strife, believed Talos came to him in a dream and now he goes around championing his name.

Of course, I'm sure the mer or beast races have other gods that you can work something out with. I just feel that the Paladin's chosen god, their motivation, is more important than some of the stuff you guys are kind of arguing about (iron mace vs whatever...doesn't really matter, I don't think).

Why is the alto wine always gone?
So I am starting a Paladin build, and I just wanted to ask, should I use a mace, or Dawnbreaker? I am like half role-playing so I chose mace at first but Dawnbreaker also is holy and is good against undead so.. Which should I use?

If mace, which one? I'm not using the Mace of Molag Bol because he's evil.

Please help :D
I would say use dawnbreaker but a mace does seem to have a certain look that does match the paladin's image...i would say enchant a mace with something close to the dawnbreaker effects but to each their own, it doesn't really matter, you could always have your character have both and just equip one at a time

Ahh, yes, I am going to get to that later. I haven't really decided who I will follow.

You have great ideas about a Paladin, at least to me you do. Steel Plate, 2H Sword, Restoration, Enchantment & Smithing would all fit IMO. I would, however, restrict enchantment to turn undead like a previous poster said. At least for my Pally build I would. The deity is a tough call, but the Priestess of Kynareth does also teach Restoration, so that might be the best one. That would mean no Companions Quest, unless you stop after proving your honor, and I would go for Hevnoraak's mask for it's properties as well.

Actually, in quite a few places (almost every cairn I enter now!). The first group of 6 I encountered was during the quest where you remake the ancient amulet. There I was opening the final chamber door when - boom! - there were two directly in front of me. After I slammed the door and reopened it, those two had been joined by two more up on the platforms to either side and then two more came out from behind the platform where I had to go! Let me tell you - that was truly an annoying battle. Fortunately I save before I go through every door in a dungeon so at least I had a few tries to get past them. Maybe at level 65 they just luv me! Last night I actually ran in to 9 of them at once while I was trying to get to Alduin. I wasn't paying attention and was making my way up to the cathedral when, all of the sudden - boom! there they all were. Fortunately I shadow warriored my way in to cover and picked 'em off. They certainly give a good fight, particularly if you can stay away from all the Thum'ing! Frankly, the 2 dragons, 3 drauger wights, 1 drauger death lord and 1 dragon priest were more easily handled. Of course, I suppose it helped that they never did spot me until it was too late!

Since I'm about to start the Dawnguard DLC, and I have a great Silver Great Sword (although the damage is a little low) and I understand that it works great agains the Undead (I'm assuming that Vampires are still considered the undead and I already know it works agains were's), what enchantments would y'all suggest to put on it? Since I've lost Dawnbreaker to a glitch, I'd like to add this sword to my inventory.

Muart

I'd add fire + ice enchants for more damage since it doesn't do much damage to other things. If you're using for undead only, Turn Undead and Banish, or if you don't like them running away, maybe Drain Health and Paralyze/Banish
