Hey guys. Well, this is my first TES games, and when it was released, I really didn't pay it any mind, but then I watched some gameplay, and I became intrested, so I bought it a few weeks ago, but didn't get a good chance to open and play it till now. I must say, I'm impressed. In any case, I came here for some advice.

First, what skills should I be leveling up? I'm a Mage/Archer/Thief, and so far I'm putting my level ups into Destruction, Enchanting, Archery, and Restoration. Some Light Armour too. I've dabbled a bit in smithing and made some leather boots and pads, and am using the Mage Robes and Hood aswell.

Second, should I visit the College of Winterhold yet? I'm at the part in the main quest where I have to go to High Hrothgar, and I'm at level 7 so far. I'm not in to much of a rush to do the main quest, and the College interests me. Does it offer anything of actual value that's worth the long trip?

Also, what's the point of the Dragon Bones & Scales I got from defeating the Dragon at the Whiterun Watchtower? Or should I just sell them? Or put them in my chest in Breezehome?

Thanks. ;)

dragon bones and scales are used to make the best armor in the game. If you are not raising anything in smithing skill, then it's best you sell them. I find them too heavy so I don't even bother picking them up. As for skill leveling, just raise the ones you feel like raising! The more you use the skill, the better you get at them. Sometimes, you might want to power-level but that's just tedious IMO. Leveling isn't always good since the enemies will get stronger. You can join the College anytime. I would just explore around first before joining. The college is all the way in the north so I wouldn't just go there yet since Northern parts of Skyrim seems to have stronger creatures and you are only level 7. Eventually, you'll have to join once you are near expert level of any magic skill.

The beauty of this game is that it is truly a giant sandbox. Want to go to Winterhold? Go for it. Feel like finding the Dark Brotherhood? Nothing stopping you. Want to put the main story on hold and run around like a lunitic? Sounds like fun. Sick of that guy giving you lip? Kill him, or not...

The openness of Skyrim is what makes it great. There are no real answers for your questions. Do what you want, and when you want to do it. BUT MAKE SURE YOU SAVE OFTEN!!!!!!!!
As for what skills, play around with them. My only advise is --> DO NOT SPREAD YOURSELF TO THIN<-- Decide on what type of character you want to pay, and pick the top 4-5 skills you want to build. Once maxed out you can play around with the other skills.
For example:
My Assassin - Archery, One Handed, Light Armor, Sneak, Smithing
My Death Knight - One Handed, Heavy Armor, Conjuration, Smithing, Enchanting

The worse thing that could happen is you may need to restart, but I think that is part of the learning curve of this game. Use your first character to learn the game, and your others to own it.

Most of all have fun; the more I play the more I like it.
