To discover an enchantment, you need to destroy enchanted items at the Arcane Enchanter. It's the only way. You're just going to have to find a weapon that traps souls, or buy one. If you level up your enchantment skills, you'll eventually get to put more than one enchantment on an item. I've not done it. Seems like lower priority than other things I need to level up on.

Ironbound Barrow has an 2 handed steel axe that has Fiery Soul Trap. The Fire damage will always be ten, lower the magnitude to 1 sec for the soul trapping. Edit: fire damage will be 12 with the 1st fire enhancer damage perk and 15 with the 2nd one.

There's a rumor that Nettlebane is also a soul trapper.

A daedric relic (a mace) is also a soul trapper.

The generics will pop up in stores or treasure caches.

Besides Fiery Soul Trap (from the axe I mentioned) you need double effects perk in the Enchanting tree to have two effects.

On your disenchantment question: your Enchantment skill & soul gem used sucks.

There are any number of weapons you can buy or find with the soul trap function that, once you disenchant will allow you to enchant on to a new weapon. You can two 2 enchantments on to anything once you're up to 100 perk points, but not before.

As Colleen stated you need to find an item with the enchantment you want and disenchant it at an arcane enchanter. Its does not matter what level the item is so you are better off disenchanting lower level items to learn an enchantment. Just because you disenchant an item with a 30 point bonus does not mean you will enchant items with that 30 point bonus. The power of your enchantment is based upon your enchanting level and any perks you have chosen as well as any bonus you might receive from a fortify enchantment potion. There is a perk to put two enchantments on one item, but your enchantment skill needs to be at 100 before that perk is available.

thank you jaeger. is there a magic resistant enchant that i can put on my body armor? and why did the amount of damage change ?

Check my post and Whisper34's. The amount depends on how many points you have in enchantment, what perks your using and the strength of the soul gem you used to enchant in the first place. I finally made it to 100 and now I can enchant with the best of 'em! If I use enhancement potions and items, I can do much better than the original. Next project, a dagger that sucks souls and does 50+ in health damage that I can use poison on. Sorry... I've said too much... Hopefully my target won't read this...

Yeah, there's a resist magic enchantment. The amount of damage you can enchant an item with is dependent on your own level in skyrim, not on the disenchanted item. The best way to increase your enchantment is to keep your enchanted weapons loaded with soul gems. You'll also have to choose enchantment perks.

You can really up it quickly at lower levels so you can get ahead by collecting all the daggers you can find and enchanting them using your lesser or common soul gems. Try to get the Banish enchantment as it adds high value. Now that I've gotten myself all the way up, I don't need to do it anymore, but it was invaluable at the time. I even took to mining my own iron, smelting it and then creating many, many iron daggers. Not only did it up my smithing, but it helped to up my enchantment.

All of this was stuff I learned from my fellow forum members. Thanks all! You have made Skyrim so much less confusing and so much easier to navigate!

I forgot about the soul gems that Daelon mentioned. Also as far as those go the power of the soul gem only affects the power of an enchantment on items other than weapons. On weapons the type of soul gem only affects the number of charges on that weapon. Also enchantments with no variables like waterbreathing can be done with very small soul gems and the effects are the same.

Preach it Whisper34!

Talking resist magic you can get 2 enchantments for that one. The shield you earn from the quests for the jarl of solitude has it's own version of resist magic so once you have that you can put 2 resist magic enchantments on 1 item if you so desire.

Personally I just play as a Brit, get lord stone, get agent of mara and take 2 levels of the magic resist in the alteration skill tree and hit the 85% magic resist cap that way and use the enchantment slots for other stuff.

Waterbreathing and muffle: use petty soul gems. There is no magnitude to those enchants. If those enchants come around at the store: BUY. Chop wood if you have too. They are rare; they might not cycle through again.

For the magic weapons you're keeping use the black soul gems and the grands.

Practice and sell the magic items you make with the petty and lesser.

Use common to charge weapons. Or the Black/White Star (an unbreakable soul gem). With this black Star, kill human/mer/beast race with a soul trap weapon, recharge with the star, kill again, recharge, etc. every time you recharge, you help level enchanting. In the beginning and with black souls, every kill/recharge is an enchanting level because it's strong mojo.

Is that fur coming out of your ears?
im level 38 and enchantment is 51 why did the damage drop so much? is it because i have no perks on enchantment?

Yes. Take the perks straight up the middle to Extra Effect.

Then enjoy Gawd Mode!
