Ohh, I see, then get as many dragon souls as you can before you get to Solstheim. Once you start in the temple of Miraak, he will suck all dragon souls from all dragon you kill and if you do not have at least 3 ( to unlock Bend Will ), you will not be able to continue playing Dragonborn. Once you cleanse all the shrines ( sun, animal, water, air, etc ), then Miraak will not longer be able to steal the dragon soul from dragon killed by you. Just to let you know. :bluedragon:

FFS mate, put a spoiler alert on your post please, i havnt got that far yet, cant see the point now

How do you backstab a Dragon?
They should have added n.p.c respawns as an option Dragons ain't much of a problem anymore its those fukin vampires that piss me off even more because you have 2 vamps and a deathhound attacking one n.p.c you know ure reloading 10times at least to stop the death . on my last build I walked into falkreath and there was 4 or 5 n.p.c dead I could not beleive it there went my 100 hours because my roleplay was fukd, Bethesda give us an update with a few more n.p.cs u scrooge mother fukas lol

Dawnstar, i think they breed them in Dawnstar, and again another town that has a blacksmith with a death wish. I just had a blood dragon in Riverwood, damn thing nuked the place, faendel, alvor and wife plus 3 guards, utter carnage, but no match for me and my stabbing stick and some homebrew nasties on the end of it. :D
The breeding would explain the nearby shrine and statue of Diabella. Dawnstar ALWAYS has a dragon when I go there on any playthrough. Always...

On a sidenote, I always keep a doomsday bow with me that does a few billion damage, just in case ;)

I never let ANY NPC die other than guards. Even before the bow I was notorious for my stiff defense of my beloved colle... civilians. I don't believe in no win situations;)

Ah seems like Riverwood and dragons for you is the equivalent of the USA and Invading Aliens. Or zombies. :p

If it's a low level dragon I can have some success with luring it out of the town, to the path up into the mountains behind Faendal's house. But the higher level ones are a-holes and will insist on frying/frosting the hell out the main road through town, and everyone in it. Then of course they land by the lumbermill where NPCs make easy targets. I've had not just Alvor die, but Greta, Faendal or Sigrid too, along with guards. Never anyone utterly useless like Sven or Embry, sadly.

I had an Ancient Dragon attack Riverwood while I was there yesterday. I had to fight it twice because something wrong happened in my game and I had to backtrack, but it still spawned each time. Anyway, I managed to kill it without too much difficulty, just a lot of dodging and the usual, but in both attacks a few NPCs died. First time I lost Alvor, Gerdur, and one other I think. Second time, I lost Sigrid, and one other, I can't remember who. Still though, I wish stupid Sven would die. Embry, not so much, he amuses me. :D

After much playing and lurking, I've come to the conclusion that every player/character has That One Town where a dragon ALWAYS attacks. For many people it is Riverwood or Falkreath, but I've heard people complain they can't go to Winterhold without a dragon attacking them. I had one character who would be attacked by a dragon every damn time she took one step out of the gates of Whiterun. Quite put her off travelling.

For me it's Riverwood, or Windhelm. I always seem to get attacked by a dragon as soon as I enter or exit the city.

What we do in life, echoes in the eternity !
Miraak can't suck all the souls you've already used, can he? After all, they are bound at this point. I have probably 20 extra at this point and have about 10 shouts (4 are complete all three levels). Is Bend Will in that temple?

I also find it fun to go back and kill the dragon again at a site I've already done, if for no other reason than I'm a greedy pig and want more bones, scales and moola!

No he does not ! At least it never happened to me. I have played Dragonborn 3 times already and he never deleted or stole any dragon soul I was keeping in my inventory. What he does is, that he does not let you suck a dragon soul between when you get into his temple and when you cleanse all the shrines. Once all of them are cleansed, you are able to continue sucking any dragon soul. Apparently, the shrines are corrupted by him and while they are, he has full control in Solstheim over everything that is going on in there; when you finish with that quest of temple of Miraak, you are following this lady to the Skaal village and the boss of that village ask you two things : to get the first Bend Will word and after that, using that word on every single shrine, to clean them out from Miraak’s corruption. Once all of them are cleansed, then Solstheim is back to normal and Miraak loose control over the dragon sould matter.
But to be sure you are not relying on that, I suggest to show up in this island with at least 6 - 9 dragon souls. Reason ? First one you will unlock will be Dragon Aspect and then Bend Will. But it is critical that you show up with at least 3 of them to full unlock Bend Will otherwise, you will not be able to continue. If you show up with only 3, then do not use any to unlock any shout but Bend Will. Anyway, you will not need any other shout to face Miraak but Bend Will and the other shouts you get in this island, can be unlocked once you kill him.
Keep in mind that right after Miraak is finished by Mora, you will automatically suck about 7 dragon souls from Miraak’s dead body and you can use those souls to reset you skill trees right there in Apocrypha. Remember that if you do so, you must spend one soul per each skill tree you do reset or you can use your souls to unlock the other shouts and come back there to reset your skill tree anytime you want later in the game. Happy gaming bro. ;)

Why is it always Rorikstead for me?

I mean, the fact that there's a dragon burial mound near there has nothing to do with it...
