I have Serana as my follower, and I am at the point in the Dragonborn DLC where you meet Frea, and she follows you into the Temple of Miraak.

Well, in the middle of the ruin, Serana and Frea start wailing on each other. And there's no way for me to stop the fight, and it never ends since both characters are 'quest-important.'

Does this happen at all for any of you? It happened previously, with Serana and another NPC that you pick up before you enter a ruin, perhaps Anska from High Gate Ruins or something. But geez is it annoying. I have to reload the save, which sometimes just sucks, depending on the last save.

God, that's just dumb that your followers can beat each other up eternally...

boop.
Yup, during the Dawnguard questline I had Serana and Cicero with me, and occasionally they'd start beating each other up for no reason. And like you said, since they're both essential characters, they don't die, but they don't stop either. Luckily console commands can calm them down, since I'm on PC.

Yeah unfortunately I am not on PC and cannot use console commands.

Hmm, I wonder if calm spells would work... I didn't try that...

I've noticed this too, and not just with other followers. I recently had to pay a 40 septim fine because Serana and a horse got into it outside of Windhelm! I think she carries just a very slight chance that NPCs will go hostile on her because she's a vampire. Not sure if it's a bug or by design.

Its not just Serena. I had Mjoll and Illana? go at each other as well.

By Ysmir you're going to FREEZE to death!
I was with Anska and Lydia and for some reason, Anska thought it was nice to go kill Lydia

I mean, WTF!? She may be annoying but she's MY EFFING HOUSECARL!

Prior to my getting the Essential Dogs mod, I never managed to keep a dog and a follower alive together. They'd ALWAYS get into a fight. I've had Serana, Esbern, Vorstag, Marcurio and a whole bunch of others kill many versions of Meeko and Vigilance. If there is offensive magic or staffs, it's basically the dog's death warrant. Either the dog runs in front of the magic attack and flies into a murderous rage, or the dog walks to close to the follower while on fire, and the follower flies into a murderous rage at being set alight. So now my dogs are essential, they don't get killed. Instead, they keep killing my followers. Progress of a sort, I guess...

I think the follower feud deal is more likely if you have a follower who heavily uses magic. I think Serana uses chain lightning, and that would be very easy to accidentally hit another follower, especially a follower who uses melee.

That makes sense. I guess the horse could have been hurt in an earlier fight and run away, but survived and returned, nursing a grudge for Serana.

Yes, like Delusional said, this happens with Marucrio when I've used him. If he accidentally hits the other follower with and spell they will fight. That is common when I conjure Dremora Lords because they go running right into the thick of it--and usually right where Marcurio is aiming.

With Serena, you have the added issue that if she is low on health she drains her allies' health, which could certaily be taken as hostile by many NPCs.

I've never had this happen with any of my followers, and I'm a followerphile

I've had Maul attack one of my followers once when walking through the Riften docks, but Maul also kept getting into a fight with the guards and even killed one of them, so I don't suppose that counts.

Bring me my broadsword, and clear understanding.
I'd not really thought about why, but Delusional's reasoning is spot on. Shadowmere charges into a group of bandits, Serana rakes everything with chain lightening and Shadowmere breaks off to attack Serana while I mop everything else up. Once it's over, fast travel or going through a door breaks the conflict. Like a pair of children always arguing .... lol.

You can always cast Ash Shell or Ash Rune on the two of them and wait for the spell to wear off. That usually snaps followers out of aggro. Or you could give Serana Ahzidal's Ring of Arcana so she casts Ignite most of the time, so she isn't zapping everyone with Chain Lightning.
