I was thinking about what to play, and realized a lot of my old favorites aren't...appealing anymore. It's like time took wonderful games like Mass Effect and Oblivion and made them feel mundane. Anyone else feel sad when this happens?

it doesnt for me, epic games are always that way. i played some homeworld last week and the music still makes me tingle on my neck.

i know mods are kinda a taboo thing since console players cant get that plops, but it adds a silly amount to the game. you really can make the game you want

I can easily go back and play older games and still enjoy them. If it's a really good game I will play it to death move on to something else and come back to it later on down the line.

I was a bit sad when Skyrim became a bit mundane for me a while back. However, playing Demons Souls has made me excited to go back to it. Glad I never got rid of the game.

You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die.
Yeah, I do. And for me, that game is Skyrim. Not because it's not fun any more. Far from it. It's just freezing on me so much. And when it does that, I can't complete the quest and move on. Just approaching a destination, like Graywinter Watch, and I get the system freeze. And it doesn't matter what direction I approach it from. Trust me, I've done the whole North-South-East-West thing. Nada.

Yes and no. I guess I'd be sad if it happens to my favorites. But every game which is worth it is just too good to get bored of. Just installed Freelancer again because it's just great. Even Mafia is still fun even though I played it through two times a year

It happens to all Video Games.

Video Games are pure Escapism, and eventually you even "Escape" your Escapism. You become a fan of something else or you do something drastic ...like go outside for awhile. Pick up a Sport. Start a new hobby.

You no longer find that game interesting because you found something else more interesting to replace it. You just can't go back.

But then another Elderscrolls game comes out and it starts all over again.

Skyrim is the biggest one I can think of. I've deleted every trance of it off my computer. I couldn't play it for more then 5 minutes, just to look at it would repulse me. I don't know if I'll ever play it again, tbh. Probably will though, I always have little phases.

I get bored of games once in a while, but I come back to them later on and they are fun again. Sometimes you just need a break from them

Agreed.. the BG trilogy was and always will be my all time favorite computer RPG series. Last time I played it was probably 5 years ago, and while I still enjoyed it, especially with the mods, it didn't quite captivate me like it once had. Nowadays I fear it would feel too outdated; that, and I really have chewed that bone through and through. I'd rather remember it fondly with a pang of nostalgia than attempt to force myself to enjoy it.

I've also gone through phases of totally losing my interest in Skyrim. I'm currently going through one, and haven't touched the game for a couple of months, but I'm sure my enthusiasm will pick up again at some point and I'll return for the DLCs.

I get a bit annoyed, but in the end, I just accept that it isn't fun anymore and move on.

Except Soul Blade for the PSX. Best. Game. Ever. - my favourite of all time. When it got boring, I would play something else - however, I would always come back to it. I still play it now, when I'm not working, Xbox-ing or PC-ing! :)

Now I really have to play Soul Blade.

I'm where you least expect me, THERE! no not there
Absolutely .

But there's no way that immediate first spine tingling feeling that comes with immersion in a new world can last forever.

The best thing to do is enjoy the game for as long as possible.

At least until a new elder scrolls game ;)
