Spoilers ahead regarding the Civil War quest. You have been warned.

Anyways, I come here seeking aid. I'm at the quest where I have to Regain the Pale. Sounds easy enough, right?

So I go there, kill every Stormcloack on the way, until I reach 0%, and the Quest is completed. I report to the General, he gives me a Random loot, and tells me to report for duty to Legate Rikke.

So what's the bug?

I don't get a question mark towards her. There is a quest-line on the Journal of that quest saying "Regain the Rift" but no arrow anywhere. So, since I am on PC, I use the Power of the Almighty Console! I move myself towards Legate Rikke.

She is on the Rift Camp, near Ivarstead, I believe. So, I talk to her, and she says I need to regain Forst Dunstad. Ok, tell me where- I JUST REGAINED IT FROM THE PALE! The quest is completed on my Journal "A Battle for Fort Dunstad" or something like that. Yet she has no additional talk option.

I go back to the Fort, see a bunch of Imperial Soldiers, who says actually realizes my new position of Peacefuller, or something like that, that the General just gave me after regaining the Pale.

So, any help?

Make a new save. Google for console commands. Maybe give the setstage command a try.

I'd explain here, except dealing with particular bugs varies depends on the quest. It's not always a simple thing to fix.

In any case, read this first...

Read the "bugs" section. Maybe something there will help:

I had the same issue. I had to use console commands to further the quest. Wasted 2 hours straightening it out.

If you're not on PC, then all you can do is go back to an earlier save. Getting into the habit of saving every 20 minutes or so will save you a lot of aggravation.

I save after doing anything that I think was too much of a PITA that I'd hate to have to repeat it. I end up with a lot of saves after an evening of playing. But if I notice no obvious issues at that point, I prune them, keeping about 1 save an hour, until the next day, after which, I'll delete them.

Having this same issue on a new character. This time even the console commands won't fix it. 3 DLC's and numerous updates and this is still an issue. That's some plopsty code writing Bethesda.

A big problem I can see is that both the Dunstaad and Greenwall quests have the same quest ID (CWFortSiegeFort). That's pretty stupid on the part of the programmers. You can't use the same string variable for two different objects in a line of code. The computer doesn't know the difference. It takes everything literally.

Looks like I'm going to have to start a new character and avoid the Civil War quests. 12 hours of playing time wasted. o_O
