This is the first topic I've ever made, not counting my fanfic which is currently on hold, so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong :p

Anyways, I didn't see any recent threads for this and I was kind of curious, what is your favourite book or book series? Are you in the middle of reading one that you're really enjoying? Is there a specific book you're looking forward to? Would you like to recommend a certain book? Whatever you wish to discuss, so long as it's book related. :D

I've just started reading the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series not long after I finished the first two seasons and fell in love with the 'Game of Thrones' HBO series, though since I'm not much of a reader and I've only just begun, I can't say too much about the first book, 'A Game of Thrones', but I'm still enjoying it and if I really liked the TV adaption the books should be just as good, maybe even better. I hope so anyways, it's been months since I last actually read a book, and I have high expectations for this series. :)

So, what about you guys?

I don't read that many books but when I do they are normally autobiographies mainly by sports people like Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giigs etc. The last book I read was the first 50 shades of grey, I read about 40 pages and gave it up as a bad job it was fuc#ing plops. The last book I read all the way through was Churchill A Life by Martin Gilbert it was a pretty good read actually.

I started reading the Harry Potter series when I was in the second grade, and I could still pick one of those books up and read it all the way through in one sitting today. Those things are like a part of me man. :p

My all time favorite has to be Harry Potter. Those books were so symbolic of my childhood. I cried when I finished the 7th book... I felt like a part of my life was over. Weird, I know.

Second all-time favorite is The Giver. That is the book that made me interested in dystopic fiction.

I also love Ellen Hopkins. She writes her books in prose, which is very unique. If you've never read anything from her, start out with Crank, Glass and Fallout. Those three are the only "series" that she's written, and it's based on her daughter's life.

My newest favorite is the series, The Uglies. It's another dystopic fiction about a society where every gets plastic surgey to be "pretty" at the age of 16. It's really original.

Just started on the second volume of the novel Shogun by James Clavell. If you like feudal Japanese history, or movies like The Last Samurai, or any movie made by Akira Kurosawa, I highly recommend it.

They actually made a short TV series based on the novel, starring Richard Chamberlain, in the late 70s or early 80s I think. I'm really surprised they haven't re-run it yet.

I've recently been busy with the Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett. Monstrous Regiment has always been a favorite and I recently finished Going Postal before starting on Making Money. All of his books are so clever and hilarious, I would honestly recommend them to anyone.

The MythAdventures series, by Robert Aspirin (later joined by Jody Lynn Nye) is also something I've loved ever since I was 10. I wasn't even technically old enough to be reading them, but even at that age, I was sucked in. I think they're probably a big part of why I would later dream of being an author. Anything by Neil Gaiman is also not to be missed.

The Fateless One
I read the following:

Tale of the Heike (Romaji English translation)
I Ching: The Book of Changes (Wade Giles Translation)
Spring and Autumn Annals of the Warring States (Pinyin)
The Dream of the Red Chamber (Wade Giles Translation)
Mahabhrata (Sanskrit English Translation)
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
My Antonia by Willa Cather
The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr. by Clayborne Carson
Chronicles of Narnia Series

Living in the United States initiated my hunger for contemporary American novels.

The Champion Eternal series by Michael Moorcock. Especially the ones with Corum and/or Elric. Elric had a sword called Stormbringer. It devoured souls. :Dovahkiin:

Anything and everything by Harlan Ellison. The Terminator was based on his short story, "I Have No Mouth, Yet I Must Scream".

I haven't seen this Game of Thrones, but I've been a fan of George R.R. Martin for many years. I could name dozens of authors that I've loved, Anne McCaffrey of course for The Dragonriders of Pern, Robert Heinlein, Philip K Dick, etc.

Ah yes, Elric of Melnibone. He was the inspiration for all "dark elf renegade" characters, such as Drizzt Do' Urden of Dungeons and Dragons fame, as well as Prince Nuada in the film Hellboy 2.

It's amazing to me that Hollywood hasn't made a movie about Elric or Drizzt yet. With all those fangirls out there wetting their pants for the "darkly beautiful, brooding" character (like Edward and Jacob from Twilight), as well as the skyrocketing popularity of elves, they could really capitalize on a movie or tv series like that.

If I made movies, I would get the same guy who played Prince Nuada in Hellboy (Luke Goss) to star as Elric or Drizzt. He's just made for the role:

Well, A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs was also a favorite of mine and a classic, but look what Disney did to it(John Carter). I'd only want Elric to be handled by someone with respect. Not like JJ Abrams, who turns everything he touches into a juvenile fantasy.

Ridley Scott might do it justice. Maybe.

Thane of Solitude
A few of my favorite books are:
The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen)
My collection of Edgar Allan Poe works, my favorite being The Fall of the House of Usher
Vlad Taltos series (Steven Brust)

Punz

Dark Lord of Skyrim
My favorite book as of right now is The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. Love, love, love that book! I got the first edition copy too. :)

I'm not too big on series', but Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles would have to be my favorite.

The book I'm currently reading is Let The Right One In (Let Me In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It's a very dark book.

I'm where you least expect me, THERE! no not there
Wheel of time series.

Currently reading it.

Wow, just, wow....

As epic fantasy goes it's very easily digested which is awesome :D

If you like epic fantasy and haven't given this one a shot yet, I would definitely recommend it :D although it is 14 books long lol

Giving it to you straight since 1869
I recently read a book about football (soccer), Inverting the Pyramid, which was very good for me but might be considered a bit boring for those aren't into the sport too much. Also Operation Mincemeat by Ben Macintyre which was one of the better spy stories I've read.

FINALLY somebody talking about Wheel of Time instead of Harry Tosser.

I've read books 1-12, currently reading the prequel New Spring, then I'm gonna read the two final books.

Perrin, Egwene and Elayne's chapters are my faves.<3

Elric of Melnibone, possibly my favourite character of all time, or maybe Prince Corum, or maybe Dorian Hawkmoon. Baron Meladius might be my favourite bad guy. I think you've managed to choose which books I'm going to re-read next.

I love reading, especially fantasy - Raymond E Feist's Magician books and all the subsequent series. David Eddings Belgariad & Mallorean. David Gemmell Skillgannon books. Lord of the Rings.

I crossed to the dark side last year, I was bought a Kindle for my birthday. I didn't want one, I love books, but I looked and it's given me fantasy authors I wouldn't have found any other way: Joseph Lallo, J L Doty, D M Andrews, T B Christensen, Toby Neighbours, David Wells and Michael G Manning to name several.

^Corum is my favorite. I always felt a kinship with him.

If you haven't already, I recommend the Otherland series by Tad Williams. It's very intricate, and long. Four volumes of 400 pages avg each.
