How do you backstab a Dragon?
I like moving in light armor in the beginning, but as the levels increase - I can't stand how light armor begins to look. There desperately needed to be more options than "nightingale" and "elven" as the levels increase.
Don't you like the light Dawnguard stuff? :)

Are we back to the midget pretty boy and the butch chick again? Oh nevermind, just one of my snarky comments from an earlier post.
It is pretty cool, but doesn't it remind you of the TG armor to a degree? What's with the belt? Plus, outside of steel it is the most unflattering look for a female there is.

for me, I think the light Dawnguard looks pretty sweet, minus the helmet :D

as for the armors in the game, Dwarven, Scale, Steel, and Dawnguard are my favorites for Females. "Armor boobies" aren't even remotely functional, and it's a "FARB" that transcends even Skyrim for me unfortunately.

how many people enjoy the sheer offensive capabilities of a two-handed/light armor build? :D My armor skills took forever to raise (had to use my connections with the Companions to get them anywhere) because I just tended not to get hit to begin with. :D

I didn't know at first, I have been on legendary my whole time playing, My characters seem to start heavy into sneaking...

You end up having to soften things up with a bow, until they get close, at the starting levels, and you have to hide a lot, taking shots where you can....

Those skills level in the beginning, or you die.

I always use archery because I can trick Faendal into training me.. screw Sven...what's he got to offer? LOL

once I get going, I try to get more specialized...
that's my most common "build"
Been playing within stereotypes for now...

I can't imagine the look on your face when you realized that! :D And I heartily agree, both can be a pain depending on who you talk to first, so I always look forward to burning Sven :D

I'm a fan of the "Adept +" difficulty myself - keep health at 100, 200 if that's too hard. Basically it's a blast, because your character can develop stamina and magika so quickly. On top of that, a greatsword to the head is realistic on both accounts. I'm not a fan of the hit absorbing npcs on Legendary difficulty

I am used to it now, as hard as it is to begin. but that is why I don't see much difference in how I develop a character, for the first several levels... it's a matter of survival. Might be why my PS3 play goes painfully slow. I prefer the PC!

I think the most common is sneaky archer...

My 4 main characters are:

1. Dunmer nightblade/necromancer/VL - sneak, Light armour, conjuration, illusion, onehanded, E/S/A crafting.

2. Orc Beserker - dual-wield, Light armour, smithing, archery

3. Nord hero - Heavy armour, two-handed, smithing.

4. Pure Altmer mage - Alteration, destruction, conjuration, enchanting.

Iv just started a specialized Nord Undead hunter, his main skills will be: Light/heavy armour (havent decided), one-handed, block, restoration, smithing, archery.

I dont like using the same skills over and over. Hence why my most recent character is focusing heavily on restoration for the first time ever.

have you looked up the "Demonhunter" Irishman? It's a fun build, I'm starting one with my khajiit. It's definitely a challenge too, not having any "traditional" melee skills. Alchemy becomes a god-send!

Why is the alto wine always gone?
i would say the most common builds are the no brainer builds such as HA w/ 1handed and shield or the assissin builds. i prefer my buil;ds to be a bit more complicated. now when i first played skyrim i did a no brainer build such as a warior to see what the game was like, after a few playthroughs i slowly worked my way into mages, assassin's,necromancer types, and so on. now i prefer a more custom build and play through, and to accomplish this some sacrifices have to be made such as lvl capping, stat capping, not being OP, and sometimes i decide to make my own quests and make them next to impossible, just to keep the game alive a bit longer.

Is that the one where he just uses the crossbows and bashes with them? Utilizing runes quite often as well?

yes and no, and pretty much :D Demonhunter.

It's a fun build, I've adapted it to my playstyle. I've played Skyrim alot before I ever updated it or downloaded a DLC... took me 140 hours to get my warrior up to level 52, and my battlemage 80 hours to get to level 46. All earned with no glitches. :D reason why I'm saying this, is because I looted the Dawnstar chest like MAD with my khajiit, Qa'Bar. In 30 hours time, he's level 62 now and very, very capable.

Right now, he's fighting for the Imperials, just a "legendary" hunting bow 148dmg, and now heavy Imperial armor. Combining that with Stoneflesh, he has pretty good armor rating, about 425. His archery is at 57 (lacking), but now his destruction has caught up, at 62. Finally got some much-needed spells and switched from the mage to the thief stone. His character hasn't even found the lover stone yet! :D but that'll become his mainstay til I'm finished with him.

here's his basic setup as I went:
level 16
level 36
level 51
level 61

basically, there's alot of "skills" he doesn't have attributes in, but they got him to the level he's at. And it wasn't my intention. Oh well.
Speech has hit legendary 3 times now, and Alchemy 3 times (on purpose with that one, he's very heavy on alchemy) basically his potions make him money, and level his speech. I don't have any perks in that tree yet though.

honestly he leveled up today, from 25 to 60, before starting the "Jagged Crown" mission (Civil War is his main questline). I'm still kind of in awe how that can happen now. The whole time, he never left Dawnstar lol.

I've become really, really good at running backwards, dropping double-fisted runes as I go. It's become my "go-to" for melee. Only time I use actual melee, is with a dagger, up close, from behind. Basically when I'm worried my arrow may miss (vampires in the streets) or my AOE (fireball) will kill friends. I did "exploit" the dagger, with a fortify smithing potion, on top of fortify smithing gear. The dagger puts out 225 base damage, it's Dwarven.

Alchemy is the key believe it or not. When I don't have my fortify marksman, poison health, or regenerate heath and magika potions, I'm hurting. They literally change the dynamics of the fight. Hence why his alchemy has looped quite a few times. I'm looking forward to working with the Skyrim Alchemy Lab after I'm done with the CW questline. Right now, he's basically just been making potions that are "givens" on screen. Basically just an Imperial Scout who is adept at alchemy.

He's been a blast to RP, and to play. I can't wait to really get into his character story. His coversations with J'Zhargo about Destruction spells should be quite interesting...

He basically was conscripted into the Imperial Army.
After the Civil War, he runs away and joins the Mages College of Winterhold and vows to never pick up a bow, or use a destructive spell again.
Then, helping out Sergius with some enchanting errands, he runs into Dawnstar and sees their distress. Erandur asks for his help. It's during "Waking Nightmare" that Qa'Bar really begins to understand his true calling as a Demonhunter. I treat this little Daedric Quest as a huge "the call" for Qa'Bar's story.
That's when Qa'Bar learns there are good reasons for Destruction and Archery ;)
for part of the Roleplay (where Khajiit really can't enter a city), Qa'Bar's main demonhunter kit will be Dwarven armor. His helm will hide he's a Khajiit. ;)

like I said, this build really opened my eyes back to Skyrim. I honestly thought I was done, because I don't sneak for sneaks sake. And I had my warrior and battlemage. Now, not going to lie, nothing is more fun than using Illusion spells of Invisibility, lining up the shot, and then hitting the spell again! :D and that was literally just a by-product of the rest of his build! :D

I cant stand alchemy anymore. Im not sure how you have legendaried it 3 times but I struggled and grinded alchemy only once and vowed, never again. I only done it to create the best looped weapons and armour possible (without exploit). It was easily the most time consuming and annoying skill to grind.

Im not huge on runes either, although I will definetly have to check them out. LotusEater loves them and has given me some good points. Its just one of thoses things that I havent ever really gotten around to trying that much.

Im looking forward to having offensive restoration as my main weapon against the hordes of undead, and I will be using my crossbow (and archery perks) far more than I have previously.

Nice summary though Grumpy, Id give you rep if I could :D

It's all good Irishman. I like to "tinker" and in that, Alchemy has the most available versus the other "crafties." My "aversion to fire," "fortify magika, magika regen, health regen," and the typical "fortify health, health" pots are where I make the most money. There's quite a few other poisons I'm forgetting as well. - my browser cleared its history, apparently that wipes out the "saved recipes" on the Alchemy Lab!!:confused::sadface::vomit:

Also understand I cheated *shhhh :D

I has a lady, who loves Skyrim as much as I do (she just isn't as social about it), she walked, walked Qa'Bar from Helgen to Solitude (she took it like a challenge, I won't deny her lol). 6 hours IRL!!! :D got him from 1-16 in that amount of time, and by the time he made it Solitude, he was overburdened with ingredients!!! :D and nothing else!

I also know how you feel - I legendaried Enchanting with Broc... 7 hours later of chugging along, "banishment" daggers and all, using up his stores that I thought would never be used (seriously i had over 1,000 Iron ingots, let alone steel and everything else and over 400 greater soul gems!! 400!!) I will never do that again! :D

as for the runes.

as a big beasty melee brute charges you, place a rune right in front of him, and make sure you have the "double fisted = stagger" perk in Destruction. It's entertaining as all getout to watch five Stormcloaks charge in on him, Qa'Bar calmly holding his ground and BAMO!!! Fire trap, followed by a Frost trap :D

the biggest trick is to "lead in" your opponent ;) :D and let them make their own demise.

watching the low-level peons run in terror as they're on fire makes that perk worth it too ;)

Forbidden Legend line caused my Restoration to double skill points, gaining me access to the higher turn spells. It was telling to see how powerful I became with control spells... Paralyse - turn undead - rout. Used in combo with Runes..and straight fire and shock attacks.. I stood at the Gauldur alter (for the most part) Hidden and casting various spells. took on the whole scene. Even had to save & reload to get the middle guy to spawn (known glitch/bug) as I toasted him to ashes... The one guy that spawns three versions of himself.. and shouts like mad.

I'll dip my cookies in your tears.
I have to say that I favor hiding in the shadows with a crossbow. Nothing like seeing someone searching for their friend whilst I know that a bolt has just dragged him over a cliff... by his face.

I love playing sneaky characters and mages. Less of the mage because there is not much to do as a mage which I find really boring. I still have mage builds and tons of assassin/thief builds. However lately my latest build is an arcane assassin/thief build which I wouldn't mind explaining how I built the character because it's very tricky.

I've lately become very curious as to what the most played builds of Skyrim are.
I see a lot of basic sword + shield warriors around, and a lot of stealth archers/assassins.
What type of build does your character have? If you've played multiple games, what perk tree do you use most?
What type of build/class do you think is most popular?
What's your favorite armor type (heavy, light, alteration magic)?

It's interesting to see that I couldn't find any other thread like this when I Googled. I figured someone would have asked!
Anyways, my favorite playstyle so far is unarmed combat, even though I haven't ever developed a character past 30 with fists as their main weapon. I also do enjoy the sneak+bow combo for awhile, but it gets boring real fast.
My ideal character is a nord Male who specializes in two handed weapons and heavy armor. In the beginning of the game I max out enchanting, smithing, and alchemy just so I can create the best gear I possibly can for both my character and his follower, presently being serana. Then I reset enchanting, smithing, and alchemy after I have created all my premium custom equipment. After that, I max out two handed, blocking, and heavy armor for my character's combat skills. I also go back and max out enchanting again, but I only select the first rank of enchanting, soul squeezer, and soul siphon perks so that I don't have to use soul gems very often to recharge my weapon. I also max out sneak, pickpocket, lockpicking, and speech skills, and I will select all the perks for speech so the merchants available gold is all more than 2000, and the sneak, pickpocket, and lockpicking trees are decked out as well. I always leave the 5 magic schools alone because personally, I don't keep my foes at a distance. I like to charge in and overpower them toe to toe. So, my character is pretty much a fighter/thief

my character is a nord male with two-handed and heavy armor as well, although I'm only now tapping into enchanting as it didn't quite feel right with the whole "screw elves and their magic, make skyrim great again" - stormcloak attitude. good fun. anyway, I was wondering if you could unshroud a smithing mystery for me. I've got smithing at 100, obviously, and I find that my legendary dwarven armor has a higher armor rating (291 I think) than my legendary daedric armor (maybe 285). I have all the perks active as well, and daedric is supposed to be the best one, right? it's way cooler anyway, so still wearing it, but I'm just curious. (this is my first ever skyrim character by the way, the hype got to me rather late, so bear with me if it's a stupid question.) thanks!

I honestly have no clue about that. If that is indeed true I was completely unaware of it. Sorry, wish I could be of more help than that.

All my builds do have a common theme of having some sort of melee weapon as a one of their weapons. other than that, who knows about them.

I found that , after all these years,I just know too much about the game; so making new characters and deciding on their path became kind of boring. Now, just as in real life, my character has no initial say in most things. The race is picked randomly, I use the mod 'Live another life' to have random starting point in the game, and the character's abilities are also randomly assigned. The quickest way is to decide how many skills the character can improve, and pick them at random. So, just as an example: my new character is a Wood Elf, washed ashore near Dawnstar, and has five assigned skills and happened to get Light Armor, Speech, Pickpocket, Illusion and Alchemy. These are the only skills that can be improved by perks, though any other skill can be improved as normal. You can change up the conditions as you wish: for example, only three skills, one from each set, or all skills must be magic etc.
Next, accepting each task/quest is also based on a random toss. Again, you can set the parameters as to how likely you are to accept (maybe different % for helping individuals, jarls, daedra etc.).
So, I truly have no way of knowing for sure what will happen. I can try to become a certain type, and look for ways to achieve aims that I would like, but sometimes life gives you diamonds and other times bloody wraps.
