If you don't have Dawnguard, the only way to become a vampire is to fight a vampire. Any time a vampire uses their Vampiric Drain spell on you there's a 10% chance you'll contract Sanguinis Vampiris. As it says on UESP (the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages wiki; just about the best source of Skyrim info out there): "Initially, this is a normal disease that reduces your total health by 25 points and can be easily cured with a potion of Cure Disease, a Vigilant of Stendarr, or by visiting a shrine. At sunrise of the first day after contracting Sanguinare Vampiris, a message will appear saying 'You feel strangely weakened by the sunrise'. At sunset of that day, 'You feel a strange thirst come over you'. If the disease is not cured within three days, it will progress to full vampirism, and the effects can no longer be reversed with a normal cure."

If you have Dawnguard, you can be made into a Vampire Lord by Lord Harkon or Serana just by progressing through the DLC story.

If you want to become a Vampire Lord through Lord Harkon or Serana, yes, you would have to buy the DLC, which currently sells for $20-$30 depending on the platform you want to play it on.

To get Sanguinis Vampiris, though, you just have to fight a normal vampire and let them use Vampiric Drain on you (that's when they cast a sort of red magic on you that goes from your body to their hands) and wait three days. That's part of vanilla Skyrim (just the Skyrim game, no DLCs). You don't need DLC to turn into a vampire.

So where can I find a vampire to have it attack me? Sorry for all the questions I am new been playing it 2-3 weeks. I have am imperial that's like level 10-15 or so maybe less and then I decided I wanted to make a kajeet (bad spelling I know) and started one on my boyfriend love account and got to like level 5 or 6 in the first 2 to 3 hrs then he came down and wanted to play and I realised it was on his so I started another new kajeet and am on at least level 20 and found the elder Scrolls a few days ago but when I tried to use it and kill the dragon (I forget its name it starts with an a) I kept dieing so I went back and loaded just before I used it and decided to try later.. ..

The easiest way in my opinion to fight some Vampires is to head to Morthal. From Morthal, head North West until you find a cave called Movarth's Lair. It's filled with Vampires. Go in and fight them, and let them all attack you until you see the "You have Contracted Sanguinis Vampiris" notification in the upper left corner of your screen.

You can also get to this cave in a quest, by talking to the Jarl of Morthal, Idgrod Ravencrone, about the burned down house next to the main hall.
