Ever since I became a vampire, there seems to be a bit of mistrust for me from Vorstag, my follower. For one thing, when we are fighting enemies, he will often cry out “Burn it! Burn the vampire!” The problem is, I am the only vampire in the area.

Recently, he almost killed me. Ironically, we had just finished a major stage in a major quest, clearing out the bleak falls barrow. When we exited, he suddenly attacked me with his lightning staff that I had given him! I think I was down to about 5% health when he finally said something like “I could kill you, but you’re not worth it” and started to walk away.

I watched him for a minute or so. I guess he would’ve gone all the way back to Markarth if I had let him. Instead, I decided to stand in front of him and see what would happen. Finally, he stopped and said “if you still need my blade, I’ll join you. I want to make sure you get your moneys worth.” So, I rehired him at no fee.

Still, I was a bit distrustful of him after that. I decided to take any gold he happened to be carrying for me. Definitely not marriageable material anymore, if I wanted to marry a dude.

However, aside from that one incident, things seem to be proceeding as normal and he continues to follow me and fight alongside me. When I talk to him, he spouts the standard lines, calling me “my friend,” etc. However, the thing about him trying to kill me couldn’t have been a glitch, as he had a set monologue that he delivered while he was doing it.

He should know I’m fond of him, as when he died a couple times, I either allowed myself to be killed as well or else went back to a saved game where he was alive again. Is it time to retire Vorstag?

Some companions you get in the game don't approve of Vampires, Werewolves, or other otherwise illegal activities. My best advice is to find yourself a follower who doesn't really mind such things! Janessa in Whiterun is a personal favourite of mine, and Eola in Markarth doesn't mind vampires either.

Jannessa is good for her skills, but she bemoans going through Nordic ruins constantly. Not sure about Eola, but I know Argis the Bulwark doesn't mind any.

Yesterday, I had to go to fisticuffs with someone for the Pieces of the Past quest, and I heard Vorstag rooting during the fight. I thought, "That's nice, vorstag's rooting for me!" But then I knocked the opponent into submission and I still heard Vorstag rooting. "Come on, get up! You can do it! Are you going to give in that easily?"

It turns out Vorstag was rooting for the OTHER guy LOL! I really do not seem to be on Vorstag's good side, LOL.

So I walked over and I clipped Vorstag one! "And he say's "What are you doing?"

The end of a beautiful friendship.
