Was 'serfing' the Forums when I found this gem. At first, I mistook the vid for somekind of playthru demo. Although the video is rather lengthy, I enjoyed it once had some time to watch it.

This is an excellent illustration of how the Thalmor handle their business with difficult ppl. I can only sit back and applaud with a certain satisfaction as the Thalmor beat the door in and proceed to carry out the op. No Miranda warnings, no superficial slogans about songs or Tiber Septim.

Something important is shown here which helps us understand the differences between Dominion and Empire. With the flip of a switch the Thalmor have exercised the Empire's Demons and resolved a major conflict which otherwise would have required the effort of Imperial Army and local Militias possibly taking years and significant manpower.

This is how Thalmor closed the Oblivion Gates on Summerset Isles and conducted countless ops against heathens, traitors and other terrorists (Blades). The Numidium could not destroy them, neither could the Warp in the West or Dagon's Armies nor that 'Psiijic Order' or any 'man's' tainted Empire.

Through it all the Thalmor have prevailed, proving the superiority of themselves over man one century at a time. Don't you understand? Elven Supremacy is the only truth. And in this alternate ending to Skyrim, Ulfric is presented with this fact, as I believe was inevitable no matter the ending.

Wise words, my friend. Very wise words. The Thalmor has no time for bravado or rubish talk. This is what Nords do. The Thalmor carry on their affairs with the serenity and objectiveness of those who know for a fact they are superior. But this is only the beginning. Eventually, Solitude and all hold capitals will fall to the Thalmor, just like Windhelm. Until sovngarde itself is conquered. Keep watch for more Thalmor action soon...

And also how they failed to defeat the Empire despite having massive tactical and strategic advantages?

And defeated 2x before, becoming part of Reman Empire and Septim's.

They won right? Sounds to me like they fought the wrong enemy.

Had the war continued, the Empire would have been completely destroyed and Tamriel taken. Remember the loading screen?

"Only by signing the peace treaty known as the White-Gold Concordat was the empire able to survive the onslaught by the high elven Aldmeri Dominion and thus end the Great War".

The only reason why the Thalmor didn't conquer all Tamriel yet is because the current situation fits their interest. Simple as that. It's not because the Thalmor is not able to conquer all Tamriel. As Ondolemar said:

"There is peace now, and that peace will continue for as long as it suits our needs. But make no mistake, this is not a peace forged out of necessity between rival nations of equal strength. It is more like the calm between storms. And the next storm, I think, will be far deadlier than the last".

Personally I'm looking forward to the next war... It will certainly satisfy our thirst for blood

Explain to me any possible advantage that could be gained by not destroying the Empire why they were at their weakest. Also explain to me how the Aldmeri Dominion failed to completely defeat an Empire in which the Thalmor had already executed every spy, had many years of planning beforehand, and was also facing a drastically weakened Empire.

Earlier in this thread someone said "Better to be a has-been than a never-was", and the Dominion is a never-was.

*sigh* Just when I decide to take a break from this place I get 'chained' back in. That's another ESO reference btw, comes from the action of Dragon Knight 'lassoing' you in a fiery chain and pulling you towards them.

Let me first start by saying you clearly have no real understanding of Thalmor. That is not an insult, not being rude and am not being passive aggressive. Well maybe a little, as being passive aggressive is part of their 'charm'.

Thalmor do not explain themselves. Does an Eagle explain itself to the sheep? Sometimes the sheep win, yet they are still sheep.

Thalmor do not explain themselves. Does an Eagle explain itself to the sheep? Sometimes the sheep win, yet they are still sheep.

Oddly enough I was actually thinking about that very question today. Lord Naarifiin led the Cyrodiil effort. It was his force that was cut off and destroyed. Lady Arannelya escaped. They each had their own command, their own army. They represent the Dominion however these are Lords and Ladies with their own lands and own political ambitions. Just because they was defeated doesn't mean the Dominion is beaten.

As the Blades have said, the Dominion is comparable to a sleeping Giant, like a monster... to you... with many strong heads. One was cut off, one pulled back and lived w/ experience. The monster lives and another head rose to take advantage of the Empire's apathy. That is why everyone is so afraid because they know what is coming and they know the Empire is exhausted, weak and fighting against itself; barely able to defend itself, yet still strong enough to hold a line... for now. The Thalmor are divided by powerful Monarchs who are separate yet 'united' under the Dominion... are not all defeated, are prospering from trade that used to belong to the Empire and are regrouping. :)

Lord Naarifiin met disaster because he went alone and had his own agenda which was stopped at the last second... out of respect for his title Thalmor let him go and could not override him completely. The value is his legacy which made the WGC w/ the Empire possible and thus created ripples of doubt and disloyalty within the minds of it's Citizens. Even in death? Lord Naarifiin won... however someone else will claim it. All the Thalmor have to do is wait. Kinda like Scroll runs in ESO. Ever run a scroll before? AD surround the temple or Castle, attack together and then we all wait for the end to grab that scroll while others are finishing off the defenses. The strongest and most ambitious will take the scroll and claim that power for themselves. Then... 'off we go'.

Ultimately, the Dominion still wins and with each loss more opportunity opens for other 'Thalmor' to rise up, become new Lords and Ladies on your ashes. Sad thing is the Empire (and esp Tiber Septim) in it's eagerness to keep the Dominion suppressed thru his cheesy conquest (while pretending a truce thru false diplomatic negotiations) has now made so many enemies within there is almost no hope whatsoever of getting the Thalmor to listen to them. It is only a matter of time now and the Eagles are hungry.

If Stormcloaks win the Civil War, Cyrodiil might as well go put on a nice dress, some make-up then get in that kitchen and start making us sandwiches. Cyrodiil will be claimed by the strongest amongst us, then divided in one of the biggest land grants in Tamriel history. It will have to be approved by the Dominion to prevent in-fighting, which is always possible and is one of the reasons why the Dominion exists. Cyrodiil provinces will probably resemble their former selves though firmly ruled by Elven - Dominion Overlords w/ the old Imperial system abolished. Land ownership abolished. Debts abolished. All Public displays of Talos or Imperial Victory abolished. Talos worship wiped out or driven so far underground ppl will hate him for putting them there to start with. Some Ayleid Ruins will open there doors again... for business. Unlike w/ the Empire, the former Imperial Citizens must earn the privilege of Dominion citizenship. They will be expected to faithfully serve their Elven Masters and nothing will be given to them except a broom or a loaf of bread.

Ulfric will not oppose us or invade Summerset... lol... he's scared to death of angering Cyrodiil by harming Emperor Mede in any way (During the wedding). Didn't realize a true Nord was so driven by fear. The Bretons didn't even bother answering his summons for aid. If Stormcloaks are crushed, Dominion will use the Empire for many years, which I think might actually be a better arrangement. To keep everyone unified against a common, yet weakened and divided enemy that we can use like shake and bake. Dominion can then completely regain all it's strength and has the liberty of taking the Empire down at any time.

I think that is the best explanation you will ever get from me.
First, I would like to request some sources for most of that as if sounds like they'd be pretty interesting reads.

Second, my lore is a bit rusty, but riddle me this. What is the ultimate goal of the Thalmor? I remember it had something to do with destroying some fancy towers that have to do with creation that made them "mortal", and they're trying to destroy them in the hopes of regaining their former glory and such. The tower in Cyrodiil being one such target, and they've actually destroyed a few of these towers already.

If their goal is to stop the worship of Talos to aid in the destruction of one such tower, for example, then they can quite frankly posture and wait all they want. It doesn't change the strategic or tactical idiocy involved in their decision.

Their plan is so sit back and wait for the Empire to undermine itself because they're immortal and have time on their side and such. Which is, logically (examining this in a meta sense), a dumb concept, when as you suggested, they had multiple armies in reserve and plenty of military might to spare to win the war and strike down the Empire. I don't care if their justification is that they're immortal genius' whose thinking I couldn't possibly understand, because they're banking on a long game plan that is dependent almost entirely on the luck of how cards fall over time by "biding their time". You could defend this point by saying they've got lots of spies and subterfuge about, which is true, but then again they also failed to completely neutralize the Empire's intrigue network (at least 2 Blades survived), they failed to convince the Empire to cease the execution of Ulfric Stormcloak, and they failed to defeat the Empire to begin with (for reasons I'm expected to believe yield greater benefit potentially a hundred years in the future).

More Thalmor fun, my friend! ;)

Indeed.

Jarl Elisif is legit on good terms with the Thalmor (or she is being really convincing). A credit to her, esp if she is truly to be the next High Queen of Skyrim. If the Thalmor are to rule Tamriel again then they must be careful NOT to offend the Nobles of the land to any unnecessary extent as they will need them after the Empire is overthrown.

Killing Jarl Elisif is wasteful, in this case. Killing Jarl Ulfric is also the much same until he is no longer any use. Never under-estimate your pawns.

I'm about to name new jarls and nobles of Skyrim amongst those who have been neglected and oppressed by the Empire and the Nords. Killing the jarls loyal to the Empire/Ulfric is just the first step of a complex plot. The new rulling class of Skyrim needs to be in perfect harmony with the Thalmor interests and the best way to do that is to choose those who had nothing before the Thalmor rule or those who are corrupt enough to serve whoever is in power. For example, I named Nazeem as new jarl of Whiterun and Maven Black-Briar as the new jarl of Riften.

Elisif is just like Tullius and Titus Mede. She is trying to gain time to unify the land against the Dominion while pretending to support the White-Gold concordat.

That makes sense - in places like Cyrodiil. Will work just fine.

Places like Skrim I'm afraid are a bit different. I appreciate your idea there, kinda like a reverse Stormcloak :D Nords are funny about their leaders, steep tradition in Elven Hate and other antiquated things like honor, fighting to the death etc.

Thalmor culture is very foreign to these people. They have to accept change from their own. I still see either Elisif or Ulfric as being useful. It may be best not to move on them at all until Cyrodiil is pacified. Skyrim will be a tough nut to crack.

Although, last time Cyrodiil proved to be a trap for us because of Skyrim rescuing them. Something will need to be done about Skyrim first and then there will be only a small window to use against the Empire or else we are left with being on the defensive only.
