Hi, all!

I haven't played Skyrim in a few years since I hadn't been using my Xbox 360. However a friend recently bought Skyrim for PC for me and I'm playing it for the first time tonight!

I've always played vanilla Skyrim since I played on console- are there any must-have mods I should download before I play later?

Cheers!

@kyleekay

First question, do you like immersion?

@Hart yes I do!

To give you an idea I'll be streaming this so I'd like to make the experience good/fun for people watching as well, and I'm fairly into the roleplay aspect (considering writing a story alongside my gameplay, which I've done in the past). I also just haven't played the game in years, though, so I don't want to overwhelm myself while trying to re-learn things. :p

Firstly, Specs?

Secondly, SKSE is very important and skyui is also extremely important. You should also get MCM and the unofficial patches.

Not sure what specs you need exactly but here's what I have handy:
  • AMD FX-8150 Processor
  • Asus Sabertooth 990fx motherboard
  • 16gb corsair vengeance DDR3
  • AMD R9-380 nitro 4gb sapphire graphics card
I'll check those out now! :)

Sweet! And yeah those are it. you can def get some good mods with those. Also, the good thing about mods are that you can always test them out and uninstall them if you don't like them. Def try to check out the top mods on nexus! :)

DON'T EXPECT SPOILER WARNINGS FROM ME
-Unofficial Skyrim Patch- is a must have, no questions asked. 1.9 official patch too.
-Skyrim Performance Plus- can increase your fps by range of 7-15, there's no reason NOT to have these. What they do is reducing resolution of rain, snowfall, leaves etc. These changes are not visible, unless you have Awakened Rinnengan that can see every individual pixel.
-Skyrim Project Optimization- from what I understand about this mod, it stops game from rendering things you cannot see. Results in fps boost, especially in interiors. Again, no reason not to have this.
-As mentioned above, SKSE and SkyUi. 90% of mods don't work without these.
-Unfortunately, a lot of good mods also require Official DLC's.

For installation conveniences, I'd say NexusModManager with LoadOrderOptimisationTool. But it's all on you.

That sums up what I'd call "must have". Now, instead of feeding your head with my fav mods, I recommend checking out youtube channel: Brodual
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMQkYC9HUcPTertReHILVOA - I hope no1 minds the link
These bros do short and informative reviews on mods. There are top 10 lists which you can look into.
Ofc, there are other channels that also cover mods, this is just only channel I actually subscribed to.

And finally, a tip. When searchin' for mods, NEVER ask yourself "Do I want this mod?". Instead, ask yourself "Can I play continue playing WITHOUT this mod?". If answer to the latter is NO, then download it. Hopefully, this'll keep you from flooding your load order with "immersive and what-not"-good-for-nothing-mods. Hopefully. It worked for me.
