hi, help a newbie out?

By newbie I mean to the forum not gaming, I have have hundreds of hours of Skyrim game play under my belt. I should mention that I play console, x-box 360
I've hit a brick wall in my play. I've created many characters the one previous to th one i'm playing now was my main quest character, after completing several quests I hit a bug, *grr*, searched online how to get around bug, an it was working until I hit another bug. So I abandoned her to her fate and created a new character and desided t play her on the dawn guard quest line, I have hit another bug. I have 175+ hours invested in her and am not willing to abandon her her her fate just yet.
I'm a wood elf, two children, 1 follower rya my Carl, I own several properties livestock ect, a she is unmarried.
I'm doing the "chasing echos" quest and Serana won't take me to her mother b/c I have an "interloper". I had my follower wait for me in dawngaurd, but can't get my horse to stop following me. HELP PLEASE. Thank you for reading my long winded tale of woe.

you take your horse around the back of the house and kill it just make sure the kids are not watching!.

Hmm...I was going to suggest the same thing. Unless of course your horse is not a horse, but is instead Shadowmere, which can't be killed all that easily.

Kill the horse or reload

Thanks for the suggestions, I have resolved this matter. Turns out its not enough to simply have your follower wait somewhere for you, you need to actually dismiss them.
The horse later died valiantly in battle.
P.S. Rya has since married a lovely dark elf and has moved her family to solitude.
