God I fluffing hate this stupid quest and wish there was a way to skip it. It is SO buggy! Pain in the ass to follow some killer around sniffing his ass waiting for a weak amulet. Can you skip it?

Of course you can skip it. It really serves no purpose other than as a diversion. It's just a side quest. Don't worry about it. You get nothing but an amulet from it that isn't really all that useful in the first place.
And, I agree with you. It's buggy as heck. I've played through many, many times and only about 1/2 of the time does it actually work as advertised.

Thanks! Yeah I rather skip it to complete the TG and DB quests. Then find and kill all major dragon priests for their cool gear.

Dragon Priests have cool gear? Other than those lame masks and the occasional staff (okay and oodles of gold), what gear are you referring to?

The masks and staff they have are quite powerful with different enchantments like poison resistance and so forth. Lots of bad guys use poison in the game like Falmers and Chaurus hence poison resistant magic gear is key.

True, but they're so friggin ugly and I can always get an amulet and/or do my own enchanting. It's gotten to the point where I rarely bother with the damnable things any more. I always endup with them, but have no use for them.

True if you unenchant them and create your own. I like the Nightingale armor set. It looks badass for a thief/assassin. Only wish that I could find an unenchanted version of it for PS3.

I'm loving my mods on the PS4. Using the black guildmasters armor and the nightingale that I've enchanted.

Well I paid like $3 for my copy of Skyrim on my PS3 so figure it is way cheaper than a new PS4 and new copy of the game.

Right on. Well I finished the dumb blood on ice quest and now almost done the DB quests which I like the best so far in the game. Also half way done the TG quests which is good stuff as well. Only downside is lots of bounties but since my armor and gear is OP, I am basically unkillable so whenever I feel like it, I just whack the guards in my way.

Does this quest help you get property in Winterhold? I finished recently but can't get new dialog from the Jarl or his lacky.

Since it's screwed up every single time on all 7 of my playthroughs this time, I've given up. It gives you no reward to speak of as far as I know.
It's just been easier to get Hjerim through the civil war. Frankly, as long as I've played (and it's been years and many thousands of hours and many dozens of playthroughs), I have only once been able to purchase it outside of the civil war quests.
They always say you can purchase it through Blood on the Ice, but that has not been my experience. I just wait until I complete whichever side I chose (usually Imperial) and then purchase it.
Of course, it doesn't help that I, frankly, loathe the place and the City that it's in. I don't even like the people in Windhelm. Before the war they're just putzes and after they're either a**hats or gloating jerks.

I finished it but never got the house in Winterhold. Biggest waste of a quest in the game thus far and my least favorite. The DB and TG quests are far better.
