Noob questions on quest order and leveling

So I started playing my High Elf mage and leveled him quickly to 40 with 350/350/100 magicka/health/stamina but keep getting destroyed and one shotted by monsters. I have level 40 destruction with flames/firebolt/frost/healing, level 100 conjuration/alchemy/smith and full enchanted Daedra armor and weapons but my weapon levels are weak and I get wasted quickly in dungeons by Falmer, Chaurus, and Draugr Death Overlords.

Also, what is best quest order? I did the first three main quests and a companion quest then started the College Mage quests. I did power level to 40 because I was able to get my conjuraton/alchemy/illusion/smithing/enchant to 100 so that I can craft good gear.

Get better spells, like apprentice, adept and expert destruction and conjuration. Your spells do not level with you, they stay fixed to their power. Invest in a follower, most likely from one of the town inns to assist you, try to find one who is different to your character, probably a melee based, heavy armour wearing one. You can change your difficulty if you wish, you are not obligated to stick to that difficulty if it hinders your efforts.

Thanks, unfortunately, I have already had 3 followers die in battle! First my Lydia was whacked then Sven then Volstad. Seems like even at mid-level, these folks die quickly by the Death Overlords. After current mage quest, I will try doing the mage radiant quests to get better spells. If I can get firestorm and blizzard that would help me beat higher level bosses like Mordecai and hard monsters like Chaurus and Falmers. How can I find poison resistance gear? That is what got me whacked in parts of the game.

Also, how do I get unlimited shouts? I saw a video of a guy doing fu-ra-do constantly to waste death overlords. But when I use a shout, it takes forever to recharge.

There is a necklace and a shrine of Talos, which give you 20% quicker cooldown to shouts respectively, but that's it. Only 40% faster.

Ah I see. So how does the guy shout with only waiting a second constantly? Is it based on stamina? I've thought of creating a new character with better poison or magic resistance and playing a mage/assassin as this seems better than a pure mage warrior.

And, mostly you will find poison gear in random loot. I could be wrong, but to my knowledge there is no guaranteed way to get a poison resistance gear. Bosmer and Redguards have a natural 50% resist as their character traits.

That is most likely using console commands or mods to make the game do that, when it wasn't intended for them to.

So I did better yesterday after finishing the under Sarhaal quest which BTW was a huge pain since I am level 40, multiple Draugr Death Overlords oh joy to kill and the boss Jyrik Gauldurson kept summoning frost Atronarchs! Not too bad now. I bought the better conjuration spells from that Phineas guy so can summon Storm thralls and Dremora Lords which wiped out most of the bandits in Fort Greymoor. I will probably go back now and finish the Ustengrav mainline quest then start Dark Brotherhood quest to get Shadowmere horse so that I can level up my lower destruction and combat skills. I got another follower so figure with 2 thralls and a follower, I can better tank the monsters and now can use invisibility/muffle spells.

Leveling crafting skills or non combat skills puts you in a bind because you're a medium level but don't have good attacks or defense same thing happens if you focus only on thief skills. It seems levels 30-50 I usually have a tough time at parts. You need impact from destruction skill tree to stun lock enemies with magic will help. It becomes available at lvl 40 destruction. Which is pretty low if that's your main attack. For death lords I do a combination of marked for death shouts and timing power attacks to keep them stunned. Sneak attacks with bows work well on falmer and you just kill chaurus as fast as possible with magic or an axe.

Thanks. I was able to do the mage college dremora lord side quest to get the conjure dremora lord spell which really helps me a lot now. I summoned two dremora lords and they kicked ass on the nasty mages and draugr lords in the Ustergrad dungeon. Hopefully they can nail the dremers, chaurus and falmers in future. Basic, just sit back let two of these dremora guys take out the monsters so cool. I like dremora better than storm astronach thralls even. They dont get in the way.

Sounds like conjuration is your strongest attack right now. And followers mostly die by us accidentally hitting them usually with a stray fireball. Enemies force them to a knee but don't kill them aside from some stray arrows.

I agree. In fact, I have had 3 followers already die including Lydia, Sven and another guy. Was bummed when frost troll near High Hrothgar killed my Lydia. Really liked her.
