So i just finished one characters play through of skyrim..and i thought of trying a new sneak character..with illusion spells, sneaking with bow and dagger latter in the game. So my question is that given the perk for dagger comes latter in the game. what perk should i add for lower levels? Do i use a one handed sword with a shield at the start ?and given that i have to switch to light armour for this character now, anything to look out for? Any insights provided is much appreciated.

Well really I started of sneaking and using daggers right of the start. I seperated my perks evenly as I could in sneak and 1 handed and then focused on light armor and archery. U really want to put alot of points into stamina. I would suggest that u do theives guild and DB as you get good light armor like nightingal or the DB armor that gives u bomuses like double backstab and better sneaking etc. And yes imo light armor is more fiting for assasin type characters but its not a must. I do have an assasin build guide i could post if u like. Sorry bout bad grammer I dont really pay attention to it on my phone

Sneak is harder to level if you use daggers early on. Take your time, use a bow from a distance on giants to level it quickly. Use illusion spells (muffle) to make yourself silent and then use daggers, but be aware that it may run out and you'll have to recast it.

Yah, be careful with light armour. I underestimated it when I started and got two hitted by a bandit before I could do anything about it. WTF was my first thought - but I guess its understandable when you've got hardly any armour.

Thats funny because i snook from the begginging of the game with daggers and my sneak is my highest skill as of now 86 i has about 53 sneak from sneaking and using daggers at level 10

It is harder as they can hear you easier, but its possible. Congratulations on doing it, but bows are easier at the start.

imo bows are really weak of the start and your one handed falls behind but everyone has there opinion right

Indeed. I used to shoot a few arrows and get my sneak up, then run in with one hand to keep them balanced.

few more questions guys, isit wise to have a follower..according to past experience, most followers are horrible in sneaking, what do u guys think?

Don't use a follower, ever, unless you're going somewhere specifically to kill a dragon (ergo - you won't be sneaking around) and want a mage or some cannon fodder to help you.

Use a bow in the beginning, and carry a one handed sword as well. But stick to the bow, the sword should be for when they're on to you, which will happen fairly often at early levels.

Definitely stick with Light Armour. In fact, you should probably rush to the DB or the Thieves Guild to get their armor as soon as possible.

For perks, I suggest focusing on a couple of trees and not spreading them all over the place. Focus mainly on Sneak and Archery, and when you have the must have perks of those trees (the 15x backstab with a dagger, Steady Hand) start thinking about investing something in Light Armour and Smithing.
You need to think long-term with the perks.

Personally, I'd ignore Lockpicking as you should always have way more lockpicks than you know what to do with and can afford to break loads of them until you beat those Expert and Master locks.
One Handed can be useful and maybe you should put 1 or 2 perks in the initial damage increase, but I wouldn't go very far with it because at some point you'll be so powerful and will be able to sneak so ridiculously easy that you just won't need it anymore.
I've also never found myself needing Illusion spells, because again, if you stick strictly to a sneaky playstyle, your Sneak will increase very fast and you'll be able to literally crouch right in front of someone's face and remain hidden.

That's the gist of it. A useful tip is to remember that you can use arrows as a distraction either to sneak past someone or to get him to turn his back on you for an easy backstab.

i'd agree on pretty much all points with the above post. sneak and archery, then light armory smithing and enchanting.
I'd still like put some points in illusion, and probably restoration too.
oh, and as said above, lockpicking should be doable without spending perks

I ended up setting my current assassin, (level 8 had to restart because my main character glitched), like this:
Archery, One handed (just to up the power of one handed weapons), Smithing (to increase damage further, to increase armor rating as well), Sneak (obvious reasons), Alchemy (create my own potions, and poisons which I use on my weapons for more effect), Light armor (increase armor rating), and some lockpicking. Also, join the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild.

I love talking about assassin's :)

Okay notes on what I've learned in the land of skyrim. With my level 56 Imperial Assassin.

First off..for the new to skyrim players who don't know the diffrence between a generic enemy or the common walking NPC. Listen to Dialogue..when being an assassin one must sneak basically through each dungeon..well you'll know when your close to enemies by listening to them. When you get to close youll start noticing them say "Did you hear that?" or some other phrases that indicate you coming to close.

Secondly being an assassin isn't easy to stick too. There is a true stay in the shadow assassin..compared to someone just holding daggers running in with swords and all just swinging to kill. An assassin kills quietly and leaves no traces so raise your sneak skill to 100 A.S.A.P

Third. Use daggers because in a pinch they are the fastest swinging weapons you can find..and deadly when sneak damage is applied..Illusion is also useful because i send enemys in fear, Rallied and detect life..which helps when your trying to not be seen and want to know the location of enemies. A shield is literally useless as an assassin..because you shouldn't have to worry about much combat..Archery should become second nature because you sometimes can't always walk upon an enemy so..Get archery skill level 100 also because when needed you can get that enemy who is overwatching and then reap on the stragglers on the ground.

Assassins are my favorite because i stick to it by the creed ;) sorry..i had to say that..Well if you need more tips on it ill definitly make a video for you. As goes for anyone else who needs help.

I used to play FPS games once...
Perfect timing for a post!

I have just started my Theif/Assassin character. A Khajiit...

I will be focusing on (in my prorities) Sneak, Archery, Light Armour, Alchemy, Pickpocket. I really enjoy doing this although it can get frustrating early on in the game.

For me, I have no idea why, but my assassins level up insanely quick. It usually takes me 5 hours to get to level 8, but my assassin, level 8 in like an hour and a half.

the fastest way to increase your sneak on your next play through is when your escaping helgen. there is a sleeping bear. if on a 360 just walk to the wall and get to where the bear wakes up and stop. let him go back to sleep. then just take a rubber band and slowly start walking into a wall. take the rubberband and use it to keep you walking into the wall while you put down the controller for a couple hrs. i took the family out for lunch and when i came back i was lvl 12 and my sneak was at 55. yes its kinda like cheating sorta

Oh wow, that's an awesome exploit. Granted, sneak is the easiest skill to level up lol (at least for me).

I still feel the need to insert my word of caution. You will end up being over-leveled and have subpar gear (for your level).

er guys..just wanna ask, is there something wrong with the current version of skyrim , as in 1.2, coz there have been numerous times where i am very sure i am hidden and right behind my target, buy no backstab scene appears , not even sneak damage and basically i get fluffed. thoughts?
