Some locations seem particularly difficult to get to: what place has caused you the biggest problem?

What we need is a Skyrim GPS system!

Some of the Word Walls are in tricky high places, and the map really sucks. And so do the markers.

Trying to scale some snowed-up peak in a snow storm, following the marker which leads you to a cliff... ah....
I finally got to several of these places by falling down into them from some cliff above and nearly dying, or using Ethereal shout to save myself from the fall... :p

After first going to Blackreach and leaving, I didn't know it was not marked on the map, and I forgot the name of the place where the lift is. There are a lot of locations to remember. When I wanted to go back, I had to go back the long way down...

There was this one time I saw a hill with a word wall on top, so I go up and what do I find a dragon priest! After slaying him I find that I skipped an entire dungeon by doing so!
Anyway the hardest would be angis. Cabin, spent an hour try to get up the mountain and I only found it going down the mountain a different day and then finding the way up was right in front of me the whole time

Try just starting the game, without the aid of this forum. Trying to get to High Hrothgar without starting from ivarstead, in fact coming from the opposite side of the mountain and just following the compass.

haha I was just going to say high hrothgar. On both of my play throughs I have still not found the direct path there. Instead, I have gone mountain climbing from the whiterun side...such a pain

My least memorable experience while searching something was in Solitude, trying to find that Argonian for the DB questline..... I became so frustratingly confused, finally gave up, searched the web, and found out that it was a glitch, and he was underground the whole time....

Any place on top of a mountain. It's just the worst feeling when you spend 10 minutes scaling a mountain only to see a path when you finally get to the top. Getting to the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon for the first time was one of those moments.

Did all the main quests and had just a few places undiscovered. Then, after some random quest, around the southern part of Throat of the World, saw two unexplored locations on my compass, the first two in a very long while. Which to choose? Went west, found the mine. Tried to back track east and repeatedly got lost and never picked up the other location for the longest time, and then coming from the west from Riften, there it was again. Took forever to find the place up in the mountains, The Autumwatch Tower. The other really hard place to get to was the top of Throat of the World, before any quest there, to get the Notched Pickaxe. Eventually used my horse.

Recently learned that there are three chests in the Aetherium Forge protected by the lava. Wow, that was a blast. Took super enchanted gear, a necklace, Dragonskin, and all the Fast Healing I could do to get through the lava, open the gates and get to safety. Half the time you can't see for swimming in the lava and being completely on fire. Too bad the chests had basically ordinary loot, nothing named or memorable for the collection.

Sorry everyone, it wasn't Autumnwatch Tower, it was Arcwind Point that was so difficult to find! It's tucked tight into a valley to the west of Autumnwatch Tower.

That poxy cave you're go to to fight the wizard during Daedra's Best Friend. In fact any cave or location in that general vicinity because of all those cliffs and unclera paths.

And I think one of the quests to kill forsworn in the Reach, there's a cave leading to the area, but the quest marker doesn't point you to the cave, it is pointing you to the leader's location which is in an outdoor ruin, so I end up jumping around the hills like a twonk until I find the stairs leading to his throne. there's a dragon slaying quest like this as well.
