I had a silly idea last night, but now I'm starting to take it seriously. I was thinking of keeping a sketchbook beside me while playing skyrim and stopping now and then to do some doodles of some of the game's scenery. Has anyone ever done this, or considered doing it?

The more i thought about it, the more I got into it. I started thinking it could be another way to immerse myself in the world, imagining that my character is taking sketches during his adventure. I could even put a theme to it. For example...

A Dwemer researcher who takes notes and sketches of dwarven artifacts while exploring Dwemer ruins.

A historian who makes studies of ancient nord crypts.

A pub expert who sketches the various taverns and inns he visits during travels around Skyrim.

A landscape painter who wants to travel to all the highest points of skyrim and capture some of the dramatic scenery.

a creepy vampire who draws his victims while they sleep before draining their blood.

A beast hunter who is compiling his own bestiary. You could build up your sneak perks to stay hidden from the animals and monsters while making studies of how they move. after killing your prey can draw closeups of it's death and claws.

An alchemist who draws the many flowers and fungi growing around Skyrim.

A follower of Dibella who draws portraits of the most beautiful women or men you encounter in Skyrim.

What do ya think?

Sounds interesting. I say go for it.

For the record, the beast hunter sounds most intriguing. It's just too bad that you'll rarely get to witness different animals interacting - bears and wolves, or trolls and sabrecats, etc.. That'd make things more interesting, as you could write little blurbs about how they interact.

I was thinking of going for the dwemer researcher first. I mentioned in another thread a while back that I'd like to play a mage type who focuses on Dwemer dungeons, and has his follower wearing Dwemer armour. So the story would start off with him investigating Bthalft taking sketches of the ruins, and the Imperials who are camped nearby become suspicious of him and arrest him as a spy trying to map out military secrets for the Stormcloaks, and that's how he ends up on the wagon to Helgen (not crossing the border)

Sounds good. Definitely allows you to work the opening scenes into the character story.

Also, for whatever reason, "start off with him investigating Bthalft, taking stretches of the ruins," made me imagine a huge underground travel system that essentially allows you to move across the whole map while being surrounded by Dwemer ruins and constructs and such, and only having the guardian constructs and the occasional Falmer/chaurus as company. Like Blackreach, only more akin to the tunnel system of the dwarves in Dragon Age.
