INTRODUCTION (to be updated)

The insula idea if this manual is to help you survive playing legendary from level 1 up to the point where you are strong enough to venture out on your own.

This is based on the warrior build, all skill tress are at our disposal, and we are using knowledge that is already available in our minds about the game, so if we find a mammoth tusk for Medasi although we have not met him yet we are not going to make a big fuss about it and just take it. If you are interested in role play you will have to add that aspect on your own

Legendary is not like other difficulty’s the odds are stacked against you form the very start, Everything in Skyrim become very powerful & you become much weaker, between levels 1-20 you are literally at the mercy of the game, you simply do not have enough time to work on your skill trees to be strong enough to make any difference,

The biggest problem are skills like BLOCKING, HEAVY/LIGHT ARMOR, 1 OR 2 x HAND skills that you have to engage & get in close for melee combat to receive the increase in those skills, an example of this is that you have to take hits for the armor skill to increase. On legendary a bear will kill you in 2 hits, a bandit with a double handed Enchanted hammer will kill you in one hit, and its suicide to take on a master vampire at level 9, because like it or not you will have to face a master vampire at level 9, at level 9 your still using steel weapons with 10-15 pts damage if you are lucky to have upgraded it

So how do you get your armor rating up? How to get a good damage rating on a mace and have a shield that will block some damage?

To play legendary from level 1 and under these conditions you have to approach it like playing chess. You have to think ahead, just running in and hacking everyone to bits won’t work, the x 0.25 Vs the x 3 damage received won’t let you do that anymore, so what do we do? Become a pacifist?

In a way YES

HELGEN KEEP
(to be updated)

Your first taste of combat will be in the colors of the 2 main factions in Skyrim and who you chose is totally up to you & will not affect the civil war except for who becomes your friend and helps you in Riverwood

From a tactical advantage it is best to go with the Stormcloaks because of their better numbers; there will be a point in the Keep that there will be 5 including you if you go with the Stormcloaks compared to 3 if you go with the Imperials.

Going with the Stormcloaks will also give you access to a full set of heavy armor right from the very start off course you have to kill the Imperial that is wearing it first. The down side is the loss of speed when moving but you won’t need speed in this part at all, so you can dump it or sell it and switch to a light armor in Riverwood ………priority now is max available protection.

So you’re in the keep and you got your hands cut free and your told to put on your armor and give your weapon a few swings,

At this point we will do nothing and wait for the soldiers to come in first and start their attack, it’s not until you wear your armor and equip your axe that the soldiers will become hostile to you, by this time both of the soldiers have engaged in combat with your savior so now its safe for you to go in and start hacking and slashing until they are finally dead, NOTE what will make the opponent switch is attention to you is if you block him or make him stagger.

You will notice that with an Axe with a base damage of 8pts it will take you around 10 hits to kill an opponent, it take only 3 good hits for your opponent to kill you.

The key here is to not making your opponent lock onto you, Ralof/Hadvar can serve as the means to accomplish this in the Keep since that both of them cant die and behave as your guide, you let them go first to get every ones attention and then you follow in and join the combat, this will get you through the entire Helgen Keep in regards to fighting humans. You can apply this tactic with your follower too later on in the game if you don’t already do so, as for the spiders you can use a combination of sneaking and archery & the same applies to the bear at the end.

The key to the Helgen Keep on legendary is the causal approach, safety comes first, hold back just a little and let things play out, then when you are confident you join in for the kill

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you can’t die .if you chose to ENGAGE in combat and just rush in the outcome is up to you and how good your skills are.

So far this was the easy part and should be a routine affair, what happens after we exit the keep & the choices we make & where we go will shape things to come

LEGENDARY GAME PLAY TIPS (to be updated)

Every opponent in Skyrim behaves differently in combat.

Deathlords have a very different fighting style to bandits for example or to wizards & they will use standard weapons that belong to their class. a band of Bandits approach to combat is to use there archers to outflank you, and will send the melee bandits to confront you at point blank range there attacks are very fast giving you no time to block its the constant barrage of arrows & the occasional bandit that can wiled some magic that really hurts you knowing this is a good start & will help you overcome many different situations in the game.

to counter this type of situation (above) is to identifies the archers and attack them first the idea is not to outright kill them but to get close enough to make them switch weapons from a bow to their secondary weapon witch is usually a dagger, now there damage has dropped dramatically look for any mages in the group and take them out first if you can

Speed is your best friend.

any perks on skill trees that give you a speed advantage is a must perks like Unhindered or like Block Runner that lets you run with your shield raised are a must since you will be able to doge much easier and you won’t be stuck in the same spot or walking every time you try to use your shield.

Make your weakness strength

One of the problems of playing legendary as a warrior or a berserker or an archer is that you are exposed to attacks from magic a fire wizard can kill you very easy if you have no magical protection, this will always play in your mind and will make you approach combat differently.

To counter the lack of magical resistance as a warrior you have to become a MAGE and work on some off that class’s skill tress.

  • Max out the Alteration skill tree to 100 to get the Magical Resistance x 3 = block 30% of a spells affect
  • Use the Atronach perk that Absorbs 30% of spells that hit you,
  • The Elemental Protection that blocks 50% of fire cold or shock damage if you have your shield raised,
  • USE the spellbreaker for an extra 50 points protection
  • Snakeblood perk from the alchemy tree for a 50% poison resistance.
  • Use the Lord Stone or Atronach Stone

NOW you are a little TANK of magical resistance .....the benefit of this is that you don't have to enchant your armors with any magical resistance any more. this will allow you to enchant your armors with more aggressive enchantments & you will be able to increase your health by at least 250-300pts

Using legendary SHOUTS

On legendary you will notice that your shouts don't behave the same as they did on lower levels, not that they become weaker or anything like that, the problem again is you .............example

Using SLOW TIME ...........as Apprentice for example & you have 3 bandits, you execute Slow time and you can easily kill them all even before the shout runs out, the perfect assault weapon for taking out many opponents in one sequence.

Using SLOW TIME ...........on Legendary & you have your 3 bandits again, you execute Slow time but now things have changed ...............YOU CANT take out opponents with one hit any more, you might have to make 3-4 hits to take out the bandit, this is because of the x 0.25 damage that you deal on legendary, the most you will be able to manage is to take out 1 bandit out before slow time runs out but not all 3 ...........so you will have to adapt to this change
