to build or not to build that is the question?

Okay!
I have recently been preparing for my big farm house build near falkreath.
preparing in Advance! because I really want to have the materials for a good farm and house with a steward and kids.
Now I can not do this yet but later on in the game I soon will build my house and buy some property.
But I am not ready yet.

But I really don't know if I feel like building at all because it's costly to set up so I need loads of materials and have to spend loads of gold on property and house to build for materials.

what do I do?

is it worth to regain the build on my property or just leave it?

or should I wait later on in the game?

please let me know what you think I should do?

If you've done any of the factions' storylines and got to the end, specifically the DB or Companions, you can do the repeatable quests they give you for money. There's also the Dawnstar chest for extra money.

Honestly, building houses in Skyrim is more tedious than it is expensive. However, lowering the cost of building the house greatly increasing the build time. If you build like I do, which I'll explain in a minute, a house takes forever to build, but you won't be poor at the end.

As you know, the materials you need the greatest amount of are: Wood, Iron, Corundum, Stone, and clay. Some of which must be gathered in massive amounts, namely iron, which requires roughly 300 ingots, or more. I found that mining iron ore instead of buying it is extremely effective. It's one of the easiest raw materials to find in Skyrim. Personally, I found two iron mines and simply alternated between the two while mining any iron veins I came across. However, if you prefer to save time and buy iron from Blacksmiths, purchase their supply of iron ore first. Iron only requires a single ore to make an ingot, and ore is well over half the cost of an ingot. I did the same process with Corundum, using the mine in Darkwater Crossing and another that I can't seem to remember. I believe it was called Gold stream or something like that. Just Google the types of mines and their location and you should be fine.

Stone and Clay deposits are on the property so you don't have to worry about cost there. However, you can mine stone and clay for the sole purpose of selling them, which lowers the unavoidable cost of lumber. You have to pay for lumber. However, mining stone and clay to sell, while chopping wood to give to mill owners should drastically reduce the overall cost of lumber and even provide quick cash if you need it.

Agree with Archer Drake, it's more tedious than it is expensive. I think it's valuable and a touch fun to do once, but not too early in the game. Unless you're playing a character that is a nester or home-body. Wait until you've knocked out some of the questlines that are meaningful and you'll know when it feels like you've outgrown Breezehome (or whatever vanilla house you're stashing your stuff in).

You must build! It is a right of passage. I usually build on two or three properties, the property in Falkreath hold is actually my least favorite. I really enjoy my armories, enchanting and alchemy towers. I enjoy my cellar as well when I bother furnishing it.

Start gathering iron ore. Mine it and buy it. Shouldn't need to buy iron ingots, the ore is plentiful and cheap. Appoint a steward to assist with furnishing and buying building materials.

Build it, it's a neat place..

BUT

If you build it then your house will get raided by bandits, necromancers, vampires etc..
Maybe they will steal your wife? who knows
(implying it willl be annoying to get rid of them every time)

I built once using the intended process. After experiencing it once, I decided to never take the time to gather the materials again. After that I just use console commands to add whatever I need to inventory.

Okay i have done all of this before i prefer to just buy/gather the best materials i would need do my research online have a entire crap load of ingots nails and locks with hinges as i have been crafting them alot to improve my smithing as much as possible. if i am going to build this house i need more then just 4,000 gold i need to improve my smithing skills first no 1 proriety.
