So why not talk about Calendars or.. anything really? I need help developing them. What I said in the "summary" about it is what I have thought of so far. 53 hour day, season names. Still not sure about weeks, months, or years.

Well 53 hour days are quite long.A little more than 2 days in our time. 3 days would be 159 hours per week, which is just under the amount hours in a normal week if we want to make a week 3 days. To compensate the lack of days, maybe make a month 8 weeks instead of the usual 3 1/2-4 weeks?
Hmmm. Not sure about the month thing, but I do like the weeks.
Well how many months do you think we should have? There's still 4 seasons, so we'd have to divide them almost equally.

Meh. I guess it works. Hopefully this isn't going to get overly complicated.

I'm still struggling a bit here. I'll see what I can do in the morning.

I'll probably do some kind of desert-tribe scavenger character.

Instead of days and weeks and stuff. What about using the position of the sun and moon cycles as a simplified calendar?

Since "day" is 53 hours long, there would be no way a person could go that long without sleep - normally, I'm not talking GI/Military Ops stuff - so their days would be based on the corresponding position of the sun (because it rises from east to west) we could use it's highest point as a sort of midnight. Due to the fact that sleep would occur probably two to three times during the course of a day and the same amount at night - because it takes another 53 hours for the sun to travel around Fiáin. So days would probably rely on the sun or moon's distance from its highest point and it's position east to west in the sky. People use the sun to count hours here, it's reasonable to assume it could be used to measure days due to it's slow progression across the sky.

Time measurements would just be condensed into a portion of the Sun's path across the sky, which would utilize a flat sundial instead of a circular one.

Also, the time it takes for the sun to cross the sky - independent of planetary rotation because a certain rotation speed is crucial for our EM field - implies that Fiáin is well over twice the size of Earth.

And I'm just going to leave the debate about atmosphere and gravity alone.

I already had the gravity and Atmosphere thing in mind :p

All of that sounds super useful, but atm I'm too tired to figure out how to put it into effect. This sort of thing isn't my forte.

Let me know what I can do here.

I have some experience with this sort of thing from writing sci-fi.

There is also much to be said about the structure of life on Fiáin, but I'll leave that be for now. If you want to talk about that when your better rested, let me know. Otherwise, it's not that big of a deal.

Now, I should probably focus my energy on a suitable CC. I'll have one up tomorrow or something.

Any help regarding the Calendar system is useful. However, Day and Night should still be based on sunlight and moonlight, as the Angelics would have the main calendar system and the day/night cycle as more important to them than sleep, as at a certain point a lot of them can magically augment themselves to require less or even go without.

Here's a small idea I thought of this morning: moons.

If we wanted we could break up the conventional day/night cycle in favor of something that mimics the four seasons of the world. It'd also fit in nicely with the 53 hour rotation period of the world, giving things some variety.

To do this, we could have multiple moons/celestial bodies which appear at certain intervals. During the day, you'd have the sun, representing the season of flame. Then later in the day the sun sets and one of the world's moons appears, representing the season of change. The same occurs later, with moons representing seasons of shadow and magic.

One thing though, don't imagine these moons as anything like our own here on Earth. They'd all be wildly different, coming in various shapes and sizes. Because some of them will be very large and closer to the planet, it won't necessarily be night time when they're in the sky because of how much light will be given off them.

Here's a photoshopped image of Saturn replacing our moon. Imagine something like this for Fiain.

I like it. It'd make the ocean and other large bodies of water that much more dangerous as well.

53 hour days broken up amongst four celestial bodies with 3 days weeks and 8 week months over four seasons. How many months in a year, or did I get a detail confused?

Here's my CC, sorry it took so long, I had trouble with it.

    =============================

    Name: Stryder Ren

    Age (Earth-years): 19

    Gender: Male

    Height: 5' 11"

    Weight: 200 pounds

    Sexuality: Straight

    Martial Status: Single

    Laterality: Right handed

    Build: Athletic and toned

    - APPEARANCE -

    Hair color: Brown

    Hair length: Very short

Skin color: Tan, marked by many hours in the sun.

Eye color: Dark green and gold

Stryder is of a toned and fit build with many pronounced scars on his arms, as a result of fending off many deadly creatures over the years. His face is marked by a strong, chiseled jaw and deep-set eyes. His hair is cut very short in the style of a modern-military recruit, and he sports short stubble instead of a full beard. Among the many deep and winding scars set into Stryder's forearms are a number of other noticeable marks. Stryder has a thin scar running the length of the right side of his jaw, a massive black tattoo of a Dragon on his back, and an intricate tribal tattoo of two crossed swords behind a Lion's head on his right shoulder, the symbol of his tribe.

    - GEAR -

Combat: Stryder is accustomed to combat on the sandy dunes of the desert. He fights with the sands, using them to conceal his figure until he is close enough to attack. Because of tactical choices, and the searing heat of the desert, Stryder wears very little that can be considered armor. During combat, he wears a light tan tunic with long sleeves. His pants are a light brown, and he wears a pair of light tan gloves. Stryder also wears a pair of tan boots and a tan, full-face wrap with a simple pair of goggles to protect his eyes from blowing sands. Stryder's gear is very lightweight to deal with the heat, and only serves to protect his skin from the suns rays. Stryder's combat attire is also his choice for casual wear when placed in the desert.

Casual Wear (Outside of Desert): Stryder sheds his tan tunic for a simple sleeveless gray tunic trimmed in tan, with a pair of black pants and a simple pair of black boots.

Other: Stryder has a simple, black necklace worn as a symbol of his combat prowess among his people.

Weapons: Stryder wields a simple black dual-bladed sword-staff for close-quarters combat, but also carries a number of small throwing knives tucked beneath one of the folds in his tunic, keeping them well out of view.

    - PERSONALITY -

Stryder is calm and quiet, often choosing to listen rather than to speak. After years of living among the people of the desert and telling numberous lies to keep their whereabouts hidden, Stryder has developed the ability to conceal most emotions, however his eyes still betray him and a very observant person may be able to discern his true intentions. If Stryder does not perceive a persn as a threat and finds no reason to lie to them, he becomes kind and friendly, however rare an occurance that may be.

In combat, Stryder is level-headed and perceptive, most of his attention devoted to detecting faints outlines of enemies and straining to make out the soft sound of their movements. During an actual close-quarters fight, Stryder remains level-headed and adopts a cautious engagement style, searching for openings and weaknesses, while doing all he can not to show any of his.

    - BACKSTORY -

Stryder was born to the quiet Arslan people of the desert, quickly learning their affinity for anonymity. These people have a long history where they lived among the other peoples of the world, sharing language, culture, and craft. It was many years ago that the Arslan were taken as thieves and "dirty-merchants" and the reclusive and shadowy people were quickly driven away.

Stryder was born into a small family of hunters and merchants, those choosing to brave the dangerous sands and deadly creatures hiding beneath, only to step into the even more dangerous lands of the cities, where superstition forces anyone marked with the symbol of the Arslan to be ridiculed and labeled as "thief."

Stryder was exposed to the hatred of his people at a young age as he struggled to make enough money to buy food, despite the rarity of the times he sold. He was turned away many times and given bad deals on many days. Once he grew strong enough, he took up arms to fight the deadly creatures the Arslan base their commerce from. During his first years as a hunter, Stryder became very well acquainted with death, especially the death of his father.

With an already weak link to his tribe, Stryder became detatched and irritable, until the day his mother passed and his connection to the Arslan was nearly severed.

With little connection and care for the people of the city, as well as his own, Stryder floats between the two which eventually gained him the name he now chooses to call himself by, Stryder.

Stryder's true name has been lost due to the passing of his family, and he disposed of his ties to them to help ease the pain of their loss.

Hmmm. Something about the name "Arslan" is making me raise an eyebrow. The CC is okay, though I'd like more information about the name Arslan...
