I'm talking about our followers, pets and summoned beings.

I strut into any town in my best suit of armour and get admiring comments from the guards. They praise my latest conquest. I stride nonchalantly up to the Jarl and he or she almost makes me blush with embarrassment because of the simpering comments.

Meanwhile, my follower, pet or faithful atronach stands like a school kid in the background (except for Serana who always butts in and would sit on the Jarl's knee if her programming allowed it). Nobody comments on them and they are not included in any dialogue. I think it's a shame.

Not only that but there are times that I would expect them to be noticed. For instance, you would think that if you walked into Riften with a dwarven sphere, an armoured troll or storm atronach in tow that someone would say something about it. Heck, I'd expect small children and even hardened warriors to run away screaming. Do they? Of course not.

I wrote this because I've just had a quest to destroy a vampire masquerading as an advisor in Dragonsreach. I summoned two dremora lords to distract my doomed foe and blasted him with dual cast incinerate to make sure he went down quickly. Afterwards, everyone in the court started commenting on how dangerous my spell was and that it made them nervous. I had my spells sheathed at the time but had these two hulking, horned brutes standing beside me. It really struck me then that it would have been a nice touch and so much more realistic, if NPCs did occasionally make a comment.

"Whoa! whoa! whoa!" exclaims a guard, "Get those things out of here or there'll be trouble!"

"What's that thing?", said the shopkeeper in a puzzled voice, "A spider? A mechanical spider? Can you make me one?"

Even a dialogue option would be nice, so that I could be modest and honest when accepting praise, such as, "I couldn't have done it without Lydia's help."

What do you think?

Yeah it would be nice if NPCs acknowledged our followers.

"Isn't that the Solitude headsman? you keep in strange company..."

And how come nobody comments on Aela's wolfish grin or furry ears?

Let's hear it for Couriers. They track you down, traveling the length and breadth of Skyrim with no armor or obvious weapons. Of course, it might all be some hidden bluff and they have some hidden powers.

people comment on fur growing out of my ears even after I've cured my lycanthropy...I sometimes check the mirror in the bathroom in case Bethesda knew of my less savoury bodily afflictions.

The couriers? I'd forgotten about them. They're kind of spooky the way they pop up when you're leaving a dungeon in some remote rocky mountain range...I'm sure they do have special powers. I'll happily raise a glass to them.

So do NPCs not say anything when you have a troll following you? I thought the guy who tames trolls (forgot his name because I deleted Dawnguard) tells you to avoid public places in case people get frightened.

They should say stuff about our horses as well. "that's a fine steed you've got there" or kids saying "nice horsey!"

I have seen NPCs interact with a follower once - when I took Golldir to the burning of the king festival, he tried to flirt with the female bards and they made fun of him.

Authenticity would require that townsfolk flee in terror from anyone striding down the main thoroughfare accompanied by a Dremora Lord or Storm Atronach, (or both :beermug:). Such a feature would make being bad so much more enjoyable.

They have invisibility cloaks and hidden armor. They like to play it up when they are around, but on the road, they are decked out in full regalia. They will take over soon.

It's actually just one guy. He creates the convincing illusion that there are many couriers, altering his appearance while teleporting instantly throughout the land. The courier is Akatosh, and he is the author of all the "letters from a friend."
