Do you enjoy building a god character?

One of the things I really love about Skyrim is the possibility to make any type of character, with very few limitations. One type of character is the god character. The idea is to get as overpowered as possible and to completely obliterate anything in your way while doing it. The god character is skilled in weapons, magic and stealth combat all at once and uses whatever suits him best in the given situation.

I love playing this type of character and the pursuit of absolute perfection sometimes gives me great sense of progression and leads to the creation of some ridiculous items. By the end of the playthrough I one hit almost everything. Do you enjoy being completely overpowered, or do you prefer every fight being a challenge? Do you enjoy the way to absolute character perfection?

Well, I can tell you Anna (@Darth Kiara) is all about building some OP godling characters.

Personally, I like picking one thing at which to uper excel, like my main is the best damn archer. A mini-god of archery, though the last time I said that while playing, I shot a rock three times while aiming for a Falmer. It was super sad times.

One of my future builds is going to be the guy with no business saving the world -- he doesn't want it, and frankly he doesn't have the skills to do it. But he can learn the dragon shouts, so he's gang-pressed into helping defeat Alduin. (I want to see how little I can contribute to the battle and still win.)

Mr Forz

I'm helping. Mostly.
Skyrim is often the quest for OPness, which is why I enjoy a de-leveled world in order to watch the progress firsthand. Now, while I'd love to build such character, a master conjurer tends to have very little interest in exploring caves and bandit lairs after a while.

Indeed I do love building godly characters :) I have mods that add around 4000-6000 spells/abilities to the game, and I was on a quest to get all of them lol. Had 2000 armor rating (with a 93% max armor rating mod. 2000 = max that game will register instead of the ...657? 667? I forget what the vanilla max is). permanent 100% Spell Absorbtion, level 326 with all skills and perks (naturally lol since level 252 is when you have all skills/perks maxed anyways), I just kept leveling pumping points into health and magicka. I had such an insane regen on all 3 stats it was crazy.... :\ Plus with modded Vampire Lord and other vampire mods... yeeeaaahhhh

Anywho. I do enjoy playing OP characters with amped up difficulty as I progress to keep somewhat of a challenge. And then at some point I just stop amping up the opposition as if that was their limit, and yet I can keep going. Then I turn into this "Watcher" archtype where I view the world as my playground and mortals as my playthings XD I act as their god initiating good (or evil) acts at my discretion. :)

Generally I stay neutral as the character's background leans more toward the avenger type (was wronged early in life, and punishes the wicked), but her vampiric nature also brings out her darker side. So her broken psyche + vampirism + godly power = unstable combination lol

Sad I deleted that file though :\ I have a bad compulsion to play on just 1 save file, and that game was saved over long ago.

My partner and I play RPGs for different reasons. He enjoys figuring out the system to come up with the perfect build. He'll do lots of research and make lengthy plans to get there. It does admittedly feel very satisfying when you're able to take down enemies easily. Part of the reason for why many of us play games is to feel cool. I lean towards role play myself however. The most interesting characters to play are the flawed ones. The vulnerable ones that find a way to succeed even with all of their weaknesses. To me there's a real strength in continuing to fight even when you're filled with self-doubt. To be brave you have to be afraid, something that an all powerful character will never be. I'm usually drawn towards evil characters too, because most of them have an interesting back story. What happened to this character to cause them to go down this path? I often struggle to make decisions between picking what will give me the best stats and what I feel will make the most interesting character. I enjoy a bit of a challenge too.

lol I sound a lot like your partner. It's partly the reason I rarely finish games. I'm too busy planning for the "Perfect" character before I play lol

I enjoy being powerful just not a full blown God. I find it makes the game boring if I one hit everything and no matter what nothing can make a scratch on my armour. On my Mage I'm extremely OP, with vast magicka and alchemy to buff certain abilities. Though I can still be instant killed if I fl*ff up or get too close to a landed dragon who will grab me.

and Davian that armor rating doesn't mean didly squat :p Vanilla skyrim max armor rating is 667. with the 93% armor cap mod max is 2000. And the highest a mod can even achieve is 99% which I'm pretty sure 546,397 won't reach :p But... still I'm just getting technical. I'm sure even with a 99% armor cap mod you'd still be pretty invincible. And I like invincible ^_^

I'm 50% in agreement with DrunkenMage though. I say 50% because I'm more about the RP. If I'm RPing a character that is godlike for a reason (backstory usually, or events in his/her life that made them OP) then being a godlike being is fun to me. But if I'm playing Joe/Jane Nobody from a small vilage who has no magical talents or any special story just out for survival (which believe it or not DM I actually do once in awhile xD lol I know.... it's not like me at all), but then yeah I enjoy the challenge ^_^

You and I seem to have differing experiences, then, Kiara. I've encountered quite a few enemies that can deal many thousands of HP in damage in a single blow in my travels once I leveled beyond 100 with the benefit of mods. For me, the armour helps. Results, of course, may vary depending on the configuration of your system, but one of the mods I have is Skytweak, which allows you to significantly alter conditions such as damage received and dealt in-game. Right now, I have the Legendary difficulty setting on my game allowing NPCs to deliver 8x the vanilla amount of damage. I also have enemies from mods that, on their own, are very much overpowered compared to vanilla enemies. So I think I can see where our differences arise.

I'm pretty much all about the RP. I'm in it for the story. I just want to get through. So I make my character god-like. It's fun! :D

Well it's not so much a difference in experiences. I'm just telling you how the mechanics ARE. So the armor rating you posted has the same effect as the mechanically capped one (which is why I say it makes no difference than having whatever the actual cap is). Not saying that's a good or bad thing; just "wasted" in my opinion. It's like those people who post screenshots of 9999999 armor on a vanilla skyrim game when 667 is the max but claim the 99999999 is working (... well of course it's working you have max (667) armor lol.)

But yeah. I find that interesting though (the edited to have 8x damage); I might want to try that on a new game I become godly again ^_^

Welp. I definitely do not play vanilla any more. I like Vanilla Ice (maybe I shouldn't have admitted that) and the ice cream, but I have a lot more fun with my heavily modded game than I had with the original.

It's always great to be powerful. The best aspect is that you always have room for improvement. The progression is never ending for god characters.

It feels great making the perfect character for fun, but It kinda takes all the challenge out of the game. One hit kills are fun in the short term, but it ultimately cuts down on the enjoyment in the long term.

Well if combat is your main thing it would be yeah; but I like roleplaying in Skyrim mostly. Play the goddess that hides among the villagers as a normal citizen. Live the mortal's life. settle down, have some kids, and if an attack ever happened (ie. dragons/vampires) then I'll interfere to protect my friends and family... hopefully secretly so nobody sees my power <3

or something to that effect anyways. Obviously it doesn't fit in lore-wise but meh. It's a roleplaying game and I'm playing whatever role I want :p lol

I understand that viewpoint, for those who like challenges. I think that the reason that I enjoy playing an unstoppable badass is because I like playing the game for the story, rather than having to repeat my actions dozens of times for the story to advance.

I meter out some stats, and sometimes go into hot zones without armor of any kind in order to provide some risk, but I find, now that my character is over level 100, that risking instant kill situations time after time is a waste of my enjoyment of the story.
