hello guys, i've finally decided to visit the forums myself and ask for help as this problem has been driving me insane and i kinda suck at really understanding what to do without long instructions.

so, i started playing vanilla game like a month ago and yesterday decided to start modding. first few mods (high king of skyrim & obedient ulfric) worked just fine. then i decided to download more, resulting with 36 installed mods total. i could play around for like 20 minutes before game crashed but i already had skyui errors, so i fixed the problem and attempted to run game again. it crashed few seconds after logging in.

i did pretty much everyhting from this video including updating few mods that really were outdated and downloading BOSS and LOOT and they didn't show me any big errors with my mods (might be the fact that i don't really know how to work with them? for few mods both showed - 'delev, relev' and i'm not sure what does that even mean). tried looking up for some other solutions, like skyrim memory patch but just got more confused and tired.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

the other problem, which is a minor problem is mcm's not showing up for some mods. i only get mcm for convenient horses but i'm pretty sure immersive weapons/armor had mcm's aswell? the setstage ski_configmanagerinstance 1 in console doesn't help. it only shows 'detected 2 new menus' but they never appear. can't test what happens in longer time, though, because of crashing.

list of my installed mods:

all dlc's
skyui
skyrim flora overhaul
immersive armors
immersive weapons
convenient horse herding
immersive orc strongholds
immersive solstheim
immersive whiterun
obedient ulfric
convenient horses
convenient horses - frost
better windhelm - interior
cities are cities solitude
cities are cities windhelm
etac - complete
etac - dragon bridge
riften thief edition
dawn of windhelm
better cities whiterun
aft
aft - no friendly spell
realistic water two
dawn of whiterun
markarth reach enviromental upgrade
perfect falkreath
solitude capital editon
better cities windhelm - exterior
dawn of riften

perhaps some of these mods coflict with others? i really wouldn't know, please help.

Immersive Armors does have an MCM - as does SkyUI itself; do you have that one showing up?

First thing I noticed is that you're not using the Unofficial Patch(es), which you definitely should.

You seem to have several mods affecting the same cities (I see three for Windhelm and Whiterun, for example), which could most certainly be causing issues. Check the mods' pages and search their comment sections for notes on (in)compatibility with other city mods.

As for those "delev" and "relev" tags, they're bash tags. A program called Wrye Bash can be used to create a Bashed Patch to solve leveled lists conflicts.

Another program called TES5Edit can be used, among other things, to check for conflicts between the mods in your load order.

You can find great tutorials on Wrye Bash and TES5Edit on YouTube (I recommend Gopher's videos). Neither program is complicated to use once you learn the basics.

Take his advice ^

ALSO:

What mod installing/organizing software/tool do you have? NMM (Nexus Mod Manager) or MO (Mod Organizer)?

(NOTE: IF you DO have Mod Organizer installed, skip this long pile of text and go down to the ------ line)

NMM worked fine for me for a while, but when I started to get into 'heavy' modding, ie, installing mods loaded with scripts, skeleton/mesh overhauls, edits to quests, etc., I had to switch to MO because so many of the vanilla files were heavily edited to the point where the game pretty much said:

F#%^ YOU! I NO WORK NO MORE!

It pretty much crashed every minute or so. I also recommend Immersive HUD (iHUD) by Gopher. You can completely take away the interface of the compass as well as the health/stamina/Magicka bars for an immersive feel, or you can make them a little faded so you can see through them. (I put mine at 50% transparent)

Now, with MO you can install mods and it will let you know if files are overrun, what mods are conflicting with which mods, etc. Besides having different 'profiles', (ie, having one 'profile' of mods set up for a warrior character, another one for strictly a vampire playthrough, or maybe one for a mage playthrough, and so on and so forth) the beauty of the thing in my opinion is the fact that it doesn't actually OVERWRITE any files of the vanilla game.

If you worked with photoshop and gimp it's similar to layers. MO is like the protective net placed on top of the vanilla files. Mods on top of the net can be controlled on whether they are visible or not (enabled or not). Which is why a lot of people prefer MO when they are heavily modding or experimenting on it.

I'll admit, I was a bit apprehensive of it, but after trying it out I'm completely done with NMM. So if you don't have MO, I'd suggest it. It's a bit of a learning curve but if I can figure it out, I'm sure others can too lol!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you do have Mod Organizer, then something must be conflicting with something else. SkyUI has MCM, as does convenient horses and Immersive armors. Your load order could also be the problem, and like Chadonraz said, compatibility issues can also be the cause. I would suggest getting LOOT (it's what I use, though I haven't used it in a long time since using Mod Organizer and reading author instructions carefully, and using a bit of critical thinking) as well as the other things Chadonraz suggested.

It's very important to read the mod description page. Not to sound condescending but it took me less than 1 minute to find the mods you have and already I found a warning on compability issues:
Taken from: At bottom:
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30046/?tab=1&navtag=http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/ajax/moddescription/?id=30046&preview=&pUp=1

Compatibility
  • Compatible with all mods except those that directly alter the Windhelm worldspace
  • Compatible with ThirteenOranges Arena Mod.
I looked at the files to be downloaded and Whiterun is also listed, so I assume I got the correct mod.

So, Either pick better cities, or pick one of these:

Cities are cities
Immersive Whiterun
Dawn of Whiterun
Dawn of Windhelm
Solitude Capital edition

One of the HUGE rules of thumb in regards to overhauls: Pick one.

Now, that doesn't mean you can't mix and match, say having Immersive Whiterun and say... Dawn of Windhelm. Pick one, meaning, pick only ONE overhaul per city. If they are indeed compatible and don't touch each other's respective file edits. And if the mod covers ALL the cities, that's it. You're done. For safety's sake anyway. Otherwise your game will have a freak out session. ;) I've had those before. And later I'd give myself a face palm. Silly me!

Mods are great. Don't get me wrong. After all, the Skyrim PC code is "Mod it till it crashes, fix it, Mod some more". Or... something like that. However, there are limitations on how much or WHAT you can mod. Mod authors do try their darnest to get things working and compatible with each other. There are thousands of mods for Skyrim alone. I in NO WAY envy the work modders have to do, checking up and following up on the community to see new mods and see what will fit with their own mod with no issues. I also don't envy the screaming and whining of players saying, 'IT DOZENT WRK Y NOT WORK?' without getting any details from said player to fix it.

------------

Now, if you do have NMM, I hate to bring bad news but you might as well do a clean reinstall since vanilla files may have been altered. That is, ONLY after you tried Chadonraz's advice. After that, do the Unofficial Skyrim patches. I currently use USLEEP, of course that uses ALL the DLC. Once that is done I'd recommend getting LOOT, TES5EDIT, CreationKIT (you can get it via library on steam for free), and finally MO.

Also I recommend getting SSME, it solves some memory issues. Installation guide is in the description. Pretty simple. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/?tab=1&navtag=http://

I've had a lot fewer crashes with that. Though now I'm getting a lot more lately after installing the mod VIVID WEATHERS. I'd stay away from that mod. Brilliant mod, but it's in BETA I think. Just warning ya.

I hope we both helped in some way. Note, all that I have posted was from MY experience. I'm by no means an expert. I'm sure some PC gamers here will probably correct me on stuff. But good luck!

And if you need any more help on ANYTHING, just let us know. Happy modding! :)

EDIT: If you also need links to any of the tools mentioned, I'll gladly post them. Right now however it's 2:30 in the morning and I'm dog tired! :p

Hehehe.... my bad. It's early morning :p Migraine and all. I forget crap! lol

I did try that but I didn't get much in the way of performance boost. I gave SSME a shot and it worked wonders.

I gave ENBOOST a shot as well but it completely screwed up my game. (Though I could be to blame) Though honestly if you have the right texture/overhaul set up, you don't really need an ENB. Hope you're taking notes OP! ;)

thank you all very much for the quick replies!

answering chadonraz - i have mcm only for skyui and convenient horses, nothing else. went to download unoficial patch just now.
facepalmed about myself a little after checking my mod list closer and uninstalled few mods that affected same cities, leaving one for one - so far that seemed to stop crashing, at least for 30 minutes i spent in gameplay.
is it necessary to do something about mods with bash tags? how much do they affect actual gameplay or mods themselves?

and i use NMM, thanks for your advice, if i start heavy modding in the future, will change to MO ^^

i'll see how the game goes for today, will return later if it's all right or if it starts crashing again. thanks for now (would still like if somebody knew how to solve mcm problem).

*update* worked just fine for three hours and then freezed (had to be closed with task mngr) when atempting to fast travel from sky haven temple to whiterun. no crashes, at least

PC specs would also be good to know. Just to also recommend mods that may be good for said system. Also the fact that specs can also indicate why it's freezing.

And I facepalmed just now when I just remembered about SKSE. IF and WHEN you do heavy modding, that thing is a must, as most mods require SKSE. I'll give you the link should you ever need it :)

mm, where do i find my specs?

update: when trying to get away from sonvgarde, loading screen stays on for like five minutes. task manager says that skyrim's not responding so the only way is to stop programm from working... which sucks because i can't practically play anymore.

also, fixed mcm menu with reinstalling immersive armors manually.

oh, now it's just crashing after every load screen whenever i try entering a different place. not a clue why, it was alright until i entered sonvgarde. (the crashing - infinite load screen happen even with a new character)

Sounds like the game may be screwed up, the core files overwritten and now they just aren't functioning correctly.

First, you could try verifying the files via steam. Just go to Libraries>Right click on Skyrim>Properties>Local Files>Verify Game File Cache. This sometimes worked for me before I switched to MO. This makes sure all the files for the game are actually THERE.

If that doesn't work... Game over, literally. Something must've screwed up the core original files and now it may have to be reinstalled. Infinite loading screen means memory could be over the top, or it's loading a lot of information. Some people reported after testing it, having to wait 30 minutes for the loading screen to stop.

As for the Unofficial patches, sounds like a bad download or install. I've had that happen a few times. Nexus Mods being a party pooper.

As for specs:

Start menu
Computer
System properties

Pics:

computer specs guide 1.png computer specs guide 2.png computer specs guide 3.png

That will give the basics of your computer. Enough to know what's in it I'd imagine. Although it doesn't show the card you use. In my case, I have a GT 740 NVidia. I'll edit this post again if I remember how to look that up again haha.

EDIT: Simply go to the startmenu, and in the search/run bar, type in dxdiag and hit enter. You can press no if you want when a pop up comes on. It will then show up with a window:

computer specs guide 4.png
On the next page it should show more information, such as video ram, graphics card, etc.

To post a pic just press upload a file below the text box when you post. Then upload the picture you take with your specs. Or you can simply write it down in text. As long as we get the details to help you out. :p

i'm just gonna add that i reinstalled skyrim and all the mods and it seemed to fix everything (i escaped from sovngarde with console commands) except the crashing. i can play normally with normal-lenght and even short loading screens but only up to 10-15 minutes, then it crashes to desktop.

Sounds like a memory issue. Your PC doesn't have much RAM and your graphics card isn't that good.

(By the way, ENBoost is not the same as ENB. It doesn't affect graphics and thus causes no FPS drop.)

well, is there a solution to that? appart from buying a new computer, that is.

edit: and disabling mods
