Why are the strangest builds the most fun?

By "strangest builds," I mean something like my current build:

An Orc simply named "The Wasp"

He's a heavy armored stealth character who uses twin daggers and a bow.

Strange because you almost never put the words "heavy armored" and "stealth" in the same book, let alone the same sentence.

However, he's simply been a blast to play; if there's one target, why not sneak close and begin with a dagger strike. If there's many, begin with a Fury spell from an unseen stealth position.

Since he's heavily armored, he's not a "glass cannon," like a mage, or a lightly armored turkey who can give damage but can't receive any (especially at higher levels.)

Oh, another thing, I OWN THIS CHARACTER UNTIL THE DAY I STOP BREATHING. I haven't put him in TESO yet, but I plan to! No stealing the name, folks.

Maybe because its just fun to go against typical fantasy tropes and see how things turn out when you don't follow the regular formula. Sure, there are plenty of reasons why a mage should wear enchanted robes, or an assassin should not wear clunky armour, but by going against these rules, you're not taking the game entirely seriously, even though the game totally allows you the option to do these things. You're giving yourself the option to say "f#ck it, why not." There are enough rules and regulations restricting how we function in real life, so why let yourself be confined in a video game where almost anything is possible?

Sounds fun. :beermug:

And believe it or not, I've never used a fury spell. It's where you make enemies attack each other, right? Sounds delightfully fun. :beermug:

One (or two words, depending on how you spell it out): Puppetmaster.

Unconventional and difficult, but extremely fun. Since you're only armed with illusion and necromancy primarily, you need to intricately plan out virtually every battle. It's very much a high-risk, high-reward scenario.

But seriously, very few builds get more badass than the subtle machinations of the puppetmaster.

@Nocte Aeterna I get a lot of kicks playing an Illusion focused build. Watching the enemy and their 'best mugging bandit friend' turn on him is just comical. Especially the things they say to each other.

Bandit 1: She said she would be back... They never do.
Bandit 2: *afflicted with frenzy* I'M GONNA KILL YOU
Bandit 1: WHA?! *defends self and runs*
Bandit 2: YOU WON'T GET AWAY FROM ME!
Bandit 1: *out of sight* GAAAAH! uuhhh *dead*
Bandit 2: *affect wears off* Oh, what happened?

I had those lines of dialogue happen to me once and I was busting myself laughing because earlier they had one of those special bandit dialogues like they were homies or something. I love messing with npcs.

But seriously, I think the best build or rather, most random build, was indeed a heavy armor sneaking character. Was very interesting. Helps to roleplay a bit and makes it even more fun. Though that's my preference.

Because they almost always involve some sort of a challenge, and games need to be challenging to continue being enjoyable. If you're used to playing stealth builds, you could probably sneak up and slice a Falmer's throat with your eyes closed... but throw some heavy armor on your character and suddenly, that's a lot harder to do. Now you need to try harder. Use different tactics. Die a lot. Giving yourself a challenge makes the game feel fresh again.

One of my favorite outside-the-box builds is a pacifist. Take a game that's basically built around killing things and remove the option to kill things, and suddenly you have a whole new game!

Heavy Armor sneak build goes out the window as a challenge once you get 100% muffle though...

I think it is amusing when you create a weird character and no one in the game world actually thinks there is anything weird or strange that a dwarf with a huge sword is roaming around, and is doing the work of saving the world when they can be selfish sometimes and interesting how random fights can happen. Some people do notice the changes and if you do have heavy armour, it can affect you in battle and make you open to the enemy in some battles. I have had my dwarf with hair like in the 50's and looks weird and kind of like your character is from a different world and a stranger in this place.
