How do you backstab a Dragon?
Would a High-Elf mage, ever have any reason to join the Companions

and

In terms of RP, have there ever been any Altmer members of the Companions.

Sorry. Just thought of that now that I'm playing an Altmer Mage again.

In Mundus, there have probably never been any altmers in Companions. Tho, they dont much care which race joins them, they only want to kill, doesnt matter what are they fighting. But, from the other side, history side, i doubt altmers themselves would like to join that group.

The whole point of the Companions was to sweep the world, cleansing it of the presence of elves. So, historically, it'd highly improbable, though not impossible.

However, currently there is that Dark Elf in the Companions, so the whole "nuu u kent joyn cuz u hav poynty eers" bit might not apply so much.

You can totally come up with roleplay reasons for an Altmer to join the Companions. The first one I came up was an Altmer who hates their country because of the Thalmor and is joining some famous Nord warriors as the ultimate rejection of his magic loving race. You could tweak that one to them rebelling against parents who wanted them to be proper Altmer and learn magic. And just because someone is an Altmer, it doesn't necessarily mean they have to have been born and raised in Altmer culture. Maybe they were born to Altmer parents but raised in a country which venerates fighting over magic. I once played an Altmer who was born and raised in Cyrondiil to political refugee exiles. There is also lust. Maybe Aela's sideboob or Farkas's shoulders made them want an excuse to hang around. If you don't want to be saddled with either crush you can just roleplay the crush dying when they discover Aela is a bit overkeen on bloody vengeance and Farkas is as dumb as a sack of rocks.

The Companions aren't very fond of magic, Farkas in particular is very anti-magic and tells people to go and join the college of Winterhold as an insult.

But perhaps an altmer mage is interested in the supernatural powers of a werewolf and would like the chance to experience the gift of Hircine...? A daedric quest seeking altmer might use that as excuse to join the companions.

It could also be that your altmer tried joining the mage college before but had some sort of falling out with them, like Nelacar, or got involved in some bitchy dispute with Faralda And Nirya, so you've chosen to give the Companions a try to see what sort of arcane opportunities you can find.

Another cool roleplay would be, your looking for somewhere to train in the combat arts because your goal is to become a wealthy persons bodyguard/mercenary or ally for personal gain? Or desire. Companions being the only Abled warriors within close proximity of where you camp/rest, you sought them out to train you.

Then you go about your way or stay in regular contact with them. I'd actually do that roleplay myself if I was going back on Skyrim, feeling the need lately.

In terms of RP, have there ever been any Altmer members of the Companions.

Henantier the Outsider: The first elven Harbinger. Like Cirroc before him, he was initially subject to ridicule when arriving at Jorrvaskr, for this was the time (near the closing of the first era) when elves were not permitted to be full Companions, and few were even allowed to see the inside of the hall. Henantier was humble in the daylight hours, performing any task asked of him. At night, he trained fiercely in the outside yard, allowing himself only minutes of sleep before resuming his servant duties the next day. So he toiled through several Harbingers, never resting, never complaining, and always keeping his mind and body sharp. Given his long life, he came to be trusted by the new Companions as the one who them learn [sic] the ways of honor.

When one such pupil had aged into an old man and become Harbinger himself, Henantier was the one at his deathbed. With all Companions assembled, he named Henantier as his successor, saying "even an elf can be born with the heart of a Nord sometimes." There were some number of Companions who laid down their weapons that day, but those who remained knew the truth of honor, and it is their legacy we continue to bear.

My main character, who is a Bosmer that fights in the traditional Bosmeri style with blade, bow and magic, joined the Companions. The Companions themselves say that anyone with the heart of a warrior can join them. I like to think that means even a warrior who uses magic instead of, or in my characters case, with a blade. She also definitely has a warriors heart and spirit. So to answer your question, I don't see how your characters being an Altmer matters so much; it matters more if they have the heart and/or spirit of a warrior. :D Hope that helps a bit.

Well, you could roleplay it as an Altmer who has always lived close to Jorvarrsk and has grown to detaste them because most mock him, and so he joins them, only for the joy of seeing them get frustrated as he becomes Harbinger, and then kill them all with Wurthwal(probably misspelled).

Or the reincarnation of an elf killed during the formation of the Companions who has returned for vengeance and infiltrates them to kill them with Wurthwal.

Or a Daedric Follower(doesn't matter whom) who wants to offer his lord a great sacrifice and infiltrates them to kill them with whatever it's called.

Whatever you do, KILL THEM WITH THE AXE.

Twitch? Amateur...
I like to paralyze them and then hit them with my weakest attacks until they die so that they have to suffer the frustration from being killed by something they could defend against but they have to stay still.
