Good People of Skyrim, don't mind me, I'll just leave a few mod list drabbles all over this thread!
I've never spent lots of time or effort on modding my game (sure, I tried a few mods here and there, but very randomly), but now that I'm gonna get a new PC soon, I'll mod the living pl*ps out of this game. I want to create an intense, immersive and deep gaming experience, paired with consistent role playing on my characters.

I'll use this thread mainly as a place to plan and organize my mod list, maybe write a bit about my results etc, nothing spectacular. Feel free to comment on my mod list - point out compatibility issues, mods that suck, load order suggestions, mod suggestions or whatever you wanna tell me about. Also, if you find a mod that interests you, don't hesitate to ask for a short review, I'd be happy to write it for you.

Other than that, just ignore and go about your business :D
I'll put up the mod list as a second post so I can edit it in peace.

Thanksie!

Hey guys! Here's an update:
I bought and built my new PC this week and am now getting ready for the modding. I have as of now installed SKSE, Climates of Tamriel and Project ENB.
Installing the ENB has been complicated, but I succeeded in the end. I'm not completely happy with it as I think it's still a bit too dark inside of buildings and at night, but I'll look into that. Maybe try adding light sources first, it is after all pretty realistic.

Next thing will be patches, then visuals.

(Also, I have a lot of studying to do starting tomorrow but I hope I can find some time for this at night!)

... aaaaand my game freezes every 20 minutes or so. Well, pl*ps. I have about 80 mods now, I really don't want to uninstall all of them. Ugh.
I really checked Skyrim every few mods and it always worked, but I only checked for 2-3 minutes so I didn't notice the freezes.
Anyone know a mod or two that caused your games to freeze?

Inmersive armors always killed my Skyrim. Aside from that, I don't remember any mod in particular.

But, what I recommend is that, instead of uninstalling them all and then checking one by one. You uninstall them one by one and reinstall them if it still crashes until you uninstall one and it doesn't crash.

Okay, I deactivated a whole bunch of mods (about 2/3 of them) and only kept some that I really don't want to play without (or was too lazy to uninstall). About to start a new game to see if it still crashes.

Here's the mods I kept:
Real Wildlife Skyrim
Dawn of Skyrim Collection
ETaC
Realistic Water Two
The Ruffled Feather + Enhanced Distant Terrain
ESP
KS Hairdos
True Eyes
Skyrim HD
WSCO
Climates of Tamriel & patches (+ Project ENB)
Ordinator Perks of Skyrim
Unofficial patches for Skyrim and DLCs
A quality worldmap
RaceMenu
SkyUI
Static Mesh Improvement
Alternate Start

I might also throw in Amazing Race Tweaks on Steam.
Let's try this!

Edit 1: played roughly 30 minutes with a new character, works just fine.
adding:
Skyrim Flora Overhaul
aMidianBorn armors
Immersive Patrols
Lanterns of Skyrim
Enhanced Blood Textures

adding
Cloaks of Skyrim
Common Clothes
Convenient Bridges
Inconsequential NPCs
Interesting NPCs

Edit: interestingly enough, the game did crash now. seems to be one of those five!

Edit 2: I removed convenient bridges and so far no freezes! tested for close to 40 minutes.
... I might have used the wrong version of it, my file says 'dlc free' but I have all dlc. Gonna try again with the correct file.

I have 419 right now and haven't crashed in about 95 hours of playing.

Kattus, can you list the specs of your new PC? Those specs will help me out immensely.

Also, you really need to get Mod Organizer and just start fresh, the game may seem stable at the moment when just derping around to see if it crashes, but I would bet the farm that you still have assets and probably some orphaned scripts left over from your previous mods, which will cause problems in the future. Installing and uninstalling mods on an existing save is never a good idea and once you correctly install your desired mods creating a new character would be the way to go. You also did not mention anything about using loot to sort your load order, this is ESSENTIAL. Also, just looking at your revised mod list, I can see a couple (possibly a few) that might need compatibility patches.

I would be very glad to help you out and assist in any way I can.

419? I thought there was a limit at 255 or 256.
I'll list my specs as soon as I get home, I don't have them memorized :D
I do use loot however. Mod Organizer is probably something to look into.

I'd welcome any help, explanations and suggestions, but I'm not sure when I will actually invest lots of time onto modding.
I survived the last of my exams just today and the next semester starts Monday

There is a limit on the number of .esps you can have which is 255, but you can merge esps to fit within the cap, for example, I have roughly 21 of my character and NPC enhancement ESPs merged into one large esp. Also, most retextures dont use esps, so they don't count against the limit.

There are people that have installed over a thousand mods.

Mod organizer is essential when using a lot of mods, it keeps your skyrim folder perfectly clean by creating virtual data folders that run through MO. This means you can have multiple profiles with different mods, different local saves, and different characters without harming the original skyrim data folder. It also makes it safer to install and uninstall mods as you can backup your load order, choose which files overwrite which, and manage the actual .esp plugins.

A nice explanation of one of the benefits is when you install patches that are their own .esp files. Let's say you install a mod that has an installer that lets you select which options and patches you want. With NMM you install the patches and then all you see is the mod, and the esps themselves (the things that LooT pays attention to) are in the data folder. In MO you can actually see the esps added when installing patches and such, meaning if you uninstall a mod that has patches, you dont have to reinstall the entire mod, you can just disable the patch's esp right there in MO.
