You make her Jarl of Riften, restore her Guild, destroy the opposition in the market of mead completely, become the leader and Listener of another of her affiliations (not to mention you save that faction too), get her a Quill of Gemination from the depths of a lake (try swimming in heavy armor), warn her about an attempt to steal Frost and even help her children/grandchildren in fairly annoying tasks...

... but she can't be bothered to clear your 40 gold bounty in Riften.

I mean, sure, you can hate on Nazeem, Braith and Heimskr all you want, but hey, at least you aren't forced to help any of them. With Maven, you almost need to help her and you won't even get a bit of gratitude from her. Even Calcelmo becomes likeable at some point, but Maven never displays a single drop of joy or appreciation for anything you do.

That's the only reason I got her killed. Thanks mods!

I had a vampire character go through Goldenglow Estate finding the bill of sale and burning exactly three beehives for Maven, and do you know what she gave my vampire in thanks? An iron sword enchanted to make the undead frightened. Thanks Maven...

I enjoy Maven. Right down to her haughty, greater-than-thou attitude. She's a tyrant. She doesn't request, she demands. The compliance of those beneath her is not in question. Jarl? She's been ruler of Riften in all but name for decades! She's the no-nonsense, self-made crime-lord of the roughest hold in all of Skyrim. She has the Thieves' Guild in her pocket and a direct line to The Dark Brotherhood.

She's so accustomed to the obedience of those around her that the very idea of gratitude is foreign.

It's nice to see an character that doesn't throw the almighty player a parade for every least task. I enjoy the whole Black-Briar clan immensely. Her grandchildren are especially icky and amusing. The murderous and spoiled Sibbi, and the quiet and sadistic Ingun.

I'd like to put a sword through her every time i encounter her.

But that's just me.

Maven pays you very small compliments during the Thieves Guild if you do well and select certain dialogue options. Coming from her they're very high praise.

One has to remember about Maven:

"All I care about is cause and effect. Did the job get done and was it done correctly."

As it happens she did. It worked out perfectly as I was just dicking around until Dawnguard started. That vampire didn't care about the Thieves Guild, she just wanted to join a buffet of down on their luck people nobody cares about who lived away from the sun. When Mercer told her to meet him at Snow Veil Sanctum: "Oh you think you know what that super obscure phrase means? A place in the middle of nowhere and it will only be me and Mercer, who has hated me from the start, and no one will know what truly happened if only one person returns? He's trying to kill me away from witnesses. Maven must have shared her suspicions. I am so out of here. I think I'll go check out these Dawnguard characters to see how much of a threat they are instead. Sure Mercer, I'll meet you at Snow Veil Sanctum. Just you wait patiently for me, you sucker."
