I've created and played so many characters that I can't really give any advice except to try something that you're not as familiar with. Thinking of skills and perks that you have yet to take usually jogs the mind for new ideas. Usually.

DrunkenMage

Intoxicated Arch-Mage
I always have trouble sticking to one character. I will create a warrior and then I'd come across say a Hunter and then I want to create a Hunter character. Then I come across Skaal Hunters and decide I want the Hunter to be Nord. Next I'll come across Neloth and want a Dunmer Telvanni Wizard and the cycle goes on and on.

Seanu Reaves

The Shogun of Gaming
Yeah I have something akin to Mage, all pop culture is my reference pool and it creates issues as I try to force a concept to fit. That makes that character a gimmick and then I get tired of it quickly. So the story is almost as important as me trying to be original define them more.

If any of you are interested, I have several build ideas (meaning I still have yet to play-test them) on my Skyrim Calculator account. Alternatively, I have a list of builds from other, more experienced creators that inspired said builds.

I actually have two characters and I like both of them so I'll explain both of them:
1.Gatts: orc warrior greatly inspired in the main character of Berserk, Gatts. Uses a greatsword and the heaviest armor he can find, buy or craft.
This character was made only in order to finally do the main questline and so he doesn't have any back story.

2. Hershan: this is the one. I just can't get tired of him. He's a khajit and as most of khajit characters he's a stealth character. His back story is so damn intricate that it belongs more to fan fiction than here so I'll just summarize it:
He wanted to become emperor so he traveled to Skyrim and joined both the dark brotherhood and the thieves guild. He soon became the chief if both guilds and joined them to create the shadow realm. After several years of different kinds of struggle he succeeded and became emperor of the empire. He prepared a huge army and delacred war to the Thalmor. He unexpectedly won quite swiftly and soon began to conquer the other reigns(elseweyr, the red sands...) and following the steps of Tiber Septims, he finally reigned over all of Tamriel.

All the king thing has yet to happen but mods will help.

I just want to play lol, i care about my character in the sense that its a representation of me in a CG world, and that i want the best for him - but i could care less about sitting around thinking of a backstory that will never be shared with anyone else.

Vex

Master Nightblade
I wish I had the luxury of owning a PC rig capable of running Skyrim in all its high-res glory. That being said, I don't, and as such am unable to post an epic screenshot of my main character.

Moving on...

This particular character has really grown on me and will now set the template moving forward in other TES games as my main class build.

Her name is Lady Sinthya, she's a Master Nightblade that has recently been contracted by the Imperial Empire to put down Ulfric Stormcloak and the Stormcloak Rebellion. Her true identity is hidden and unbeknownst to the Empire, heavily rooted and twisted by Vampirism. She regularly utilizes her vampiric powers to bring down her marks with utmost precision and cunning. She's very rarely seen by her mark before her legendary blade slits their throat often killing them before they hit the ground. Her skill as an Assassin is unrivaled and as such she seeks only to grow further in power. She has taken it upon herself to gather any and all artifacts of power, both Daedric, Aedric and Dragon Priest in origin to further her ambition of becoming the most lethal nightblade in the history of Tamriel. Books will be written telling of her exploits and her growing list of successful marks terminated. Bards will sing of the blood spilled by her hand, the gold earned by her devious profession and the notoriety that will be associated with her name.

All Hail Sinthya!

I made a High Elf mage, who is from a wealthy Altmer family - He is incredibly arrogant and believes he is better and more intelligent than the others inhabiting Skyrim.
However, I made a male Orc (does nearly everything with a degree of competence) who came from a poor family and was raised by his grandfather - although he wears expensive armour ('rags to riches' story) and carries valuable weapons, he always seeks to help those in need and always gives to beggars on the streets.
I made these two contrasting characters to show how much of opposites they are, and it is fun to play as them both! :D

One of my consistent dragonborn is an elegant true neutral orc nightblade, adopted by two wealthy imperial merchants. She's an adept magic wielder, a savvy economist and an eloquent debater. Being raised in a human environment was a struggle for her, but soon they learned to respect her confidence, intelligence and intimidating persona. She admired the order and mysteriousness of the dark brotherhood all her life. Bored of her repeatative routine as a student and the idea of being a future marketer , she sought them out to join after graduating from the college of winterhold, much to her adoptive parents disappointment. The art of killing from the shadows excites her, and not long she became a prominent member.

I have yet to make a consistent, full fledged warrior character. I plan it to be a lawful good altmer paladin, or a chaotic neutral barbarian kahjiit. :)

Yea....I probably have about 6 characters, but I only play on 3 [emoji53]. My Nord is my main, and she's a Spellsword, and occasional Archer. Then I have my Nightblade Bosmer, and my Orc Powerhouse [emoji28]

Some of these characters are still very much "alive" in fanfics I'm working on

Word. My most developed character is definitely Annika, who was my second-ever playthrough in the game, and who inspired a fanfic that is now about 120k words long and not quite finished.

Otherwise, there's Khayman, my pacifist kleptomaniac Khajiit. He doesn't kill anything, ever. But he will use Courage and Healing Hands on bears who take it upon themselves to battle dragons (his favorite method of obtaining dragon souls). He steals random things from every location he enters (including a sweet roll from Jarl Balgruuf's pocket; the guards never believed him). He is particularly obsessed with fish and will go to any means required to steal every piece of fish he sees. He will not, however, kill live fish, because you know, pacifism. He runs away a lot.

The current game I'm playing, my sword-oriented Reguard leads a double life, during the day Harbinger of the Companions who would help anyone, but at night is the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood and would not hesitate to kill anyone- even that poor beggar who lives in Ivarstead. My secondary character is a timid wood elf who's secretly a boss at destruction magic and if forest fires were a thing in Skyrim, she'd probably cause half of them because she uses way too many fire spells. My dragonborns are always unsuspecting people because I feel like it spices up the game a lil bit.
