BTW for all you 8 and 8.1 users who don't like the interface...you can download a program called "Classic Shell" which allows you to make the aforementioned OS's look like Win7. It's totally free, easy to install and customisable. HERE is the link.

I just wonder what is hard 2in 8 UI.

IHMO peoples who dont like win 8 UI did not use Win 7 or vista very effient.
Win 8 has Desktop which I use. I may have shortcuts like earlier windows.
If not press Flag key, type few letters from software like Sk when see skyrim click it or press enter (if it is on at top of list).
Same as ista or Win 7. I did not browse star menu.

Difference is only full screen Start menu.

But there may still be hardware and software problems. I didnt have because I bueyd new hardware.

Linux is good but some games and features wont work it (Physx). I have Steam OS(I3 3220, 8 GB Ram and GTX 670) which is linux based. I did little tweaks on it and I use desktop mode too and play Minecraft with it.

Ok question for the windows pros :D ... will I be able to install 10 and keep my 7 installation and have like a dual boot where I can choose? Because I wouldn't want to completely trust 10 from the beginning with skyrim and my other games.

I'm currently using Windows 10 as I upgraded today for free and tried out Skyrim. I haven't noticed too much of a difference in terms of performance honestly :p

However I do know that Windows 10 does have the most recent DirectX which should definitely bolster performance.

So why wasn't there all of this hand wringing and crying about interface buttons when (cr)Apple went from OS IX to OS X and changed everything including dumping desktop icons for the dock without permission? Why is Microsoft the only company required to take 20 years to change a navigation aid on a desktop?

I can't say I know much about Apple, but I would hazard a guess that Apple did a much better job of completely changing everything than Microsoft did. Not that that was hard.

I have Windows 7 Home Edition. It's ok to get stuff done, but for hardcore gaming it's best to get something else.

However, like Shadowkitty said, slowly introduce yourself to windows 10 if you really want it. Jumping right in can prove... disastrous. I know that from personal experience lol!

I've been agonising over whether to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and have decided not to on emotional grounds.

I advise you to stick with Windows 7. Speaking from experience, Windows 8 was pretty bewildering for someone who is used to using earlier versions of Windows. It was radically changed. I'd never had a smartphone or tablet, so being given these tiles when I was used to using a mouse and keyboard was bewildering. It took several days before I figured out how to turn off my laptop, several weeks before I figured out which area I was supposed to hover the mouse to make the charms bar appear and several months before I felt I was confident using the machine and could find everything I wanted when I needed to. Even now I sometimes get caught by the fact you have to wave the mouse over certain points to make a menu appear.

The turning point in my decision was when I saw some screenshots of Windows 10 and saw they still have those damn tiles. I know Windows 10 will automatically give me a familiar desktop, I won't have to wait until 10.1 for a start button, and they won't be hogging the entire screen anymore but the sight of them still makes me shudder because it makes me afraid Microsoft might have bought other Windows 8 features over to Windows 10 as well as an alarming sign they actually believe Windows 8 had a lot of good qualities.

Ultimately it comes down to a lack of trust and fear. After a long time I have finally able to feel comfortable with Windows 8, and I'm afraid of having to go through learning how to use a new operating system in case it is as difficult and time consuming as Windows 8 was. Now I know Microsoft is capable of inflicting such a terrible personal disaster on me I'm afraid they'll do it again.

I'm sticking with Windows 8.1 until my laptop dies and I have to buy a new one. With any luck that'll be when Windows 13 comes out so I won't have to learn all the operating systems in between.

Windows 7 is awesome. And improving on perfection has for me always been an expensive and unnecessary enterprise.

I havent use much 7 after I installed 8. I have Dualboot system Windows 7 home 64 bitt and Windows 8.1 Pro. I buyed Win8 when It came and after using one month, I forget Win 7. Reason better file management, faster file system, better memory control etc.. So much neede thing under the hood versus Win 7. Some games even work slighty faster.

Windows 8 is just another version of Windows 7 designed specifically for Tablet PCs or the Windows Phone. Unless you have a Mobo with the 6 GB/S throughput for external storage devices (ROM, SSD, etc) you will see no real performance increase... whatsoever. The File Sys is the same, File Mgmt is the same ( or lack of ), memory ctrl doesn't matter unless you have good RAM. It's all about the Speed of your RAM vs what your board can handle, that said, the OS doesn't even really matter as much as:

1) What your board is made of
2) What your board can do
3) What hardware is on your board

If you do not have that 6 GB/S throughput, it doesn't matter what version of Windows you have it's still going to take a while to load. Why someone would want to install a Tablet OS in place of Windows 7 is beyond me. Unless you have a Tablet PC w/ a Touchscreen, Windows 8 is unnecessary and can't do some of the things that 7 could do because they've locked it down. But I can't really talk about that lolz.

I've built my computer and specifically used Windows 7 as the OS even though Windows 8 was out. Windows 10 is supposed to be sort of Microsoft's apology for Windows 8, so I think they're still keeping some elements of Windows 8 but trying to go back to the desktop Windows 7 style. The only thing that I heard that I heard was exciting with Windows 10 was multiple desktops. I think it would just be safe to stay with Windows 7 for now until Microsoft really steps up its game again.

WIndows 8 is not just WIndows 7 as tablet UI. There is several changes under hood. Windwos 7 have problems to copy large amount data like Terabyte. When copying multiple files in folder where is same name files already, win 8 open windows where you can choose which keep or keep both (Orginal and new). Windows 7 ask every file in different window. In same hardware win 8 boot faster. Win 8 makes thumbnails in big folder much faster.

Even there is big problem to Win8 search system. Let say Windows 8 needs SSD or boot is MUCH MUCH slower because mechanical disk. I try my second computer to stop search service. It worked fine unless .... I need to play games that use VAC. Games like CounterStrike Global Ops let me play 10 - 30 minutes until game notice VAC is not working fully. Starting searh and VAC was fine.

Progs that use many cores works little bit faster in win8 but is that 5 -10 % worth. Still one core application seem to be little slower like older games.

Memory management is differnt. Even it causes some problems as Samsung install IntelliMemory software which may cause issues to Windows 8 own memorymanagement.

OT: there is two little problem in WIn 8 bootmanager. Win 7 ask at boot which OS you choose. Win 8 load just before login screen and then ask and reboot to different os if choosed so.

Problem came if Win 8 mark drive as dirty. It wont probalpy boot enven that question, so dual boot wont help. Only help was remove "dirty drive". I try install but dirty mark was second drive so install wont help. I just then remove drive, boot it win8 and plug dirty drive in usb dock.

Yep there is still some things I miss from Win7 like booting with F8 and allow install certain programs and drivers which wont normally do (Even trying run as administrator or allow install non digital signed drivers).

XP was best Windows for doing what you want. After that there something that microsoft wont allow you do.

I've done the upgrade on several machines. Windows 10 works nicely now that the accumulative patch is out but you have to take some precautions.

Windows 10 changes the video and network stack. For example Killer has released improved network drivers and Nvidia has new video drivers

If you use LogMeIn Hamachi over WIFI connection, it no longer works on windows 10

To upgrade:
1) Uninstall your video drivers (everything)
2) Uninstall your antivirus
3) Upgrade to win 10
4) Do windows updates until your caught up
5) Install new video drivers
6) Install new network drivers if available

After the install/windows updates there is a new version of .NET. IT runs a onetime optimization task that takes a while (in the background); after all your windows updates are done. This will make your machine run a bit slower than your used to -- I just set the machine to stay on for a few hours to let it complete.

Old network drivers will work, but the newer ones for win 10 work better. Best to do properties in device manager and see the date of the driver.

If you keep the older video drivers, they have problems with Direct X 12.

My gaming rig is 5 years old with newer Nvidia card, the only difference now is that your machine feels more like your phone, tablet in ways.

If you use a microsoft account, it has avantages of copying your theme's etc... if you use more than one machine.

Necromancer is Here :)

But I just upgrade my secondary computer "MukaKone" Following specs
Intel I5 3570K, Asus P8z77 -lx, Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB (Reference cooler), 8 GB RAM, X-fi fat4lity PCI, 120 Intel SSD, 2 x 3 TB mechanical drives, 1 x Fast Mechanical Drive for Swap/Temp

I noticed that I have to install Intel Chipset Driver for Win10 64 bitt and some Chipset software from Win 8.1 64 bitt to get CPU working same level as WIn 8.1. 3D mark gave only half points for CPU. Installing those I get same points as Win 8.1.
