My current character is focusing on Alteration and Archery, with a secondary focus on One Handed and Restoration. My plan was to get the Magic Armor perks as late as possible so I could use light armour pieces as long as possible, a survival strategy in lower levels and an easy way of getting level up experience.
This strategy got me to level 48. I had all perks in those four areas it was possible to get at that stage. I was wearing a circlet and robe, was lightly armored with my gauntlets and boots of the Old Gods and had a pair of boots and gloves in my inventory ready for that next level up and first mage armor perk.
And then I found some Dragonscale Gauntlets of Peerless Archery in a boss chest that did 40% extra archery damage. I pretty much decided then and there I wasn't going to get those mage armour perks.
My first Skyrim marriage was a similar experience. I had totally decided I was marrying Revyn Sadri for reasons I forget, then in Riften inn the morning after I got the Amulet of Mara of Maramal my handsome follower of the moment, Vorstag who was chosen because I have a weakness for blondes, blocked the only entrance out of the room with his broad manly shoulders and ruggedly handsome features until I talked to him, with the result I ended up back at the temple to arrange our wedding in the space of two minutes.
Has this sort of thing ever happened to anyone else? Tell me your experiences with something so awesome you changed all your Skyrim plans.
