Nephor The Shadow Stalker

Strike swiftly and silently.
Hello there people who read this. :) Welcome to my review thread where I review things. Mostly games and movies for now but let's not focus on that and get the real reason why I'm here. By now I know a lot of people have played the Tomb Raider reboot or have at least watched someone play it. Let me get this out of they way now. I'm a huge fan of the classic or original Tomb Raider games so my opinion is a little biased. I've played just about all of them and some were better than others and as Lara's bra size went up so did the stupidity and thus the reboot was the next step. So we get Tomb Raider 2013.

First off the graphics are gorgeous and the sound is crisp and clear and the voice acting is actually good. :p The game gets off to a good start. Action, drama, the ever popular slow-mo shot and just like a movie it drew me in. Fast paced action and interesting platforming sections kept me moving and glued to my controller for 3 days.

However my critiques go to the story on this one and awful dialogue. First there's the "I hate tombs" line that always makes me want to punch SE in the face for being so damn stupid, but I also want to shake their hands for actually projecting Lara's thoughts onto the audience so she actually feels like a character. Sadly that's all the character she really gets and ends up being the action chick that's really really good or extremely lucky. Either way there could've been something more to be done but I can't complain too much for what we got cause what we got wasn't outright awful.

Though her forgetting that she supposedly studied ancient Chinese culture was a real pain to me because it's as stupid as it sounds. The puzzles are easy. I mean really really really easy. Every optional tomb or cave I've come across was extremely short and only had 1 big puzzle. I expected a little more from these challenges. The story puzzles are fine but where's the challenging experience and the hard earned reward for the optional ones?

All in all the game's quite good. Hunting, collecting things to upgrade your gear and earning experience to give you survival skills is quite an addicting thing. If you're looking for an action game that's light on the challenge side then Tomb Raider is right up your alley. For those looking for a more hardcore experience there's always the HD Collection. :p

Questions, comments, suggestions? Feel free to do so. :)

She isn't always lucky, I mean a lot of her friends are killed off. She gets pretty injured quite a bit. She's far from your typical hero that walks away from fights/situations without a scratch. She gets hurt, bruised, cut etc.

I really like the game, also to just roam around to hunt stuff or valuable seeking. Does help that they portrayed Lara quite beautiful. (No typical oversized boobs and butt for example). I like this young Lara, you really feel the progress she makes towards the older, more expierenced Lara Croft from the movies. Becoming more skilled and probably badass :p

I try not to get into detail and spoilers and I just stick with what nags at me. Yeah she was badass but I felt a bit was missing. Still it's a great starting point and I'm excited about the next one. :)

I'm back with another video game review. Yeah I know I'm a day late and a dollar short on these things but it might spark interest again. Maybe even sum up the courage to challenge that Dante must die mode in the DMC game. :p Sorry I never played the original Devil May Cry games but I am looking into the HD collection but I won't know if I'll like it. So today I'll be chatting about it's "remake/reboot/prequel" thingy. :)

Got that? Good, glad you're coming with me. :p For starters the graphics are fantastic. Highly detail backgrounds, foregrounds and characters that would even make the Arkham games blush. The controls are a bit different in this game than normal action games and take a bit of time getting used to, but once you do everything is quick, tight and responsive. Pulling off insane combos and switching between weapons is almost flawless. Did I mention the graphics? :p

The soundtrack is pretty good here. Course I'm a fan of hard rock and metal so it didn't really bother me. Can't say I have a favorite song though. The voice acting is strong. No performances stand out as bad. The story is very clever and sure it may not seem typical or so typical (depending on what your world views are) it's rather interesting and though we don't get to see much of the effects from the big baddie's cause we just have to take their word for it.

As for the characters themselves. They're okay and memorable. Dante I'm really on the fence about. I'm not sure if I like him or hate him. Through the story you get some moments of smooth clarity but in others we get an asshole depiction and it's as if the game can't decide on which aspect to show off most. Vergil was a real downer and Kat was bland. She served her purpose and that's it. Come to think of it the bad guys were more interesting. :p Sorry. Starting to ramble.

I know about the classic fans and the white hair bit. He gets it at the end of the game anyway. Oh spoilers I guess. So if you're at curious about this one I can safely recommend it if you're an action game player. If you're not but are curious about action games it's not a bad place to start. All in all it's a great game but it has it's moments of meh and for me the good outweighed the bad. :)

Did I mention you can leave questions and comments? How about suggestions? Well if ya don't know ya do now!! :p Today's topic Spec Ops: The Line. For those of you that don't me I used to be in the army and before you ask no I don't play COD. I normally avoid military shooters because they get boring after awhile. I just can't get into the grind of multiplayer mostly and the story missions have bad writing, limited exploration and QTE's. Not a fan of these types of games but Spec Ops is different.

The graphics are good. I mean it looks like a PS3 game. Brutal as hell though. The voice acting is great. Each character has some great dialogue and distinct voices so you always know who's talking. The music is great. There are a few classic rock songs that don't sound out of place and the soundtrack is mood fitting. Usually there's some type of gimmick or ability that tries to draw interest in a shooter, Spec Ops doesn't care to have one. Sure there's an order button and you can order your partner AI squad mates to kill a baddie.

All right now the story is the real draw card here. It twists and turns and explores another aspect of war. Has it been done before? Sure but in a game? Not really successfully. Spec Ops pulls it off brilliantly. I just don't know how else to describe it without spoilers. So if you enjoy a good story about soldiers then feel free to check out Spec Ops. If you're a shooter fan and would like a good story that comes in the same package then get Spec Ops. :D
